Osanna looked around. Well, this looked familiar.
Ed blinked when he heard something at the train station, which was odd since he and Al had just been there not more than five minutes ago. He turned around, frowning. |
"I remember this place," Naomi said as she brushed herself off. "This was that place, the one that kind of feels like home and Genkai's temple at once."
Al turned as well. "You heard it too, brother?" he asked, glancing around. |
Osanna nodded. She remembered too. She liked this place. Now where to go from here?
Ed nodded. "Yeah. Let's go see what it is." He started back towards the train station. |
Naomi looked around and saw what looked like the main (and seemingly only) road in the town.
"That way, maybe?" she suggested. Al nodded and followed his brother to see what was going on. |
Osanna nodded after a moment and started walking. Hey, it had to lead somewhere, right?
It only took Ed a few minutes to get to the point where he could see the girls. And then he blinked, startled. "Are they really here again?" |
Al blinked as well.
"I see them too," he reasoned, "so they must be. But they're alone, look." |
Ed nodded and jogged over to them, waving them down. "What are you two doing here again? Did something happen?"
Osanna shook her head. Nope, at least they were there voluntarily this time. |
"Well, back home," Naomi replied, shrugging. "But we're here on our own this time. And we even almost know what we're doing." She grinned a bit.
|
Ed blinked. "You do? How does it work?" Because now he wanted to know everything.
|
"Magic," Naomi replied reluctantly, waiting for his reaction. "I can't give you a better answer than that, because I don't have one," she added at both brothers' doubtful looks.
|
Ed frowned. He did not like that explanation one bit. There really had to be something more logical to it than that. Although if it came from her world, perhaps it was sort of magic. Sort of. But only sort of! There still had to be a bigger driving force behind it than that.
|
"Really," Naomi said, looking at Ed's expression, "I can't explain it any better to you in a way that would make sense to your science-oriented brain. It's something about demon energy and tearing holes in the barriers between dimensions and some sort of space-time demon in this book, and I barely understand it myself."
|
Ed shook his head. He was fairly sure there was more to it, but he had no way to get answers, so he sighed.
"Well, what are you two doing here? Just hanging out?" |
"Pretty much," Naomi replied, nodding. "Change of scene, getting away from home for a bit."
|
Ed nodded. "Alright. Well, we just got back here." He glanced over at Al. "Want to head back this way and go see Winry again?"
|
"We'll tag along, as long as it's okay," Naomi replied. "We don't want to be an inconvenience." Because really, they hadn't planned on running into anyone familiar quite so soon.
"We don't mind," Al replied brightly. "Ed needs his automail checked anyways, that's why we're here." |
Ed nodded and started walking towards the house. "Yeah. It's acting up again." He sighed. Maybe he was too hard on it... sometimes.
Osanna just shook her head and walked next to Naomi. |
"What did you do to it?" Naomi asked as they got closer to the Rockbell's place. "It's made of steel, isn't it?"
|
"Yeah, but I can still damage it." Ed shrugged. "When I fight and transmute it, it gets damaged over time. Wear and tear."
|
"Makes sense, I guess," Naomi mused. "Something always gets a little lost in translation?"
|
Ed nodded. "Something like that, yeah." He sighed. He was lucky Winry hadn't throttled him yet. Too many times, anyway.
|
"And you make Winry fix it every time?" Naomi said. She shook her head. "I can't imagine that goes over well."
Al snickered. "It doesn't," he said. "But I don't think Winry minds as much anymore." |
Ed scratched the back of his head with a sheepish little grin. "She's gotten used to it. Besides, I don't trust anyone else." He shrugged. Sometimes it really was as simple as that.
|
"Fair enough," Naomi replied. She could understand not trusting too many people with something as important as a robotic limb. "Are you sure it's alright for Osa and I to drop in like this?"
|
"Yeah, sure. They don't mind having more guests." Ed shrugged. "I think they like seeing that the two of us know some other people." Which could be hard for them.
