"It's kind of weird that they don't use the same system wherever you're from," Naomi added. "I mean, it's simple enough, and it makes sense." And if she was sensing them right, all three of them were at least Level Five, if not bordering on Six.
|
"We use Classes," Yusuke said with a shrug. "D, C, B, A, S. It's simple, easy to remember, and that's how Spirit World has been classifying them for years."
Osanna nodded, smiling a little. She herself was barely above a Level 2, which bothered her sometimes, since her grandfather was a high Level 5. But nothing to do about that. |
Naomi thought about that for a moment.
"Why jump straight to S?" she asked. "That makes no sense to me. At least our system is in numerical order, you know, zero to six." |
Yusuke shrugged. "Hell if I know. That's just the way it works."
Osanna chuckled quietly and shook her head, leaning back against the wall. She was kind of tired now, after cooking and cleaning all day. |
The rest of the night was fairly quiet after the alchemy 'demonstration'. Naomi went back up to her own room to sleep, since it was the coldest area of the house, but she knew Osanna had no problems going in if she needed anything. She turned up the heat in the house just slightly for the others and then retreated into her room.
|
When Osanna woke up, she knew instantly she wasn't where she'd fallen asleep. It smelled different. She sat up slowly, still sniffing the air, and her eyes widened. This did not smell like home. Or anywhere else she'd been.
Scrambling to her feet, she looked around. All seven of them were resting on what looked like a cloud. Giant gates loomed in front of them, and she swallowed before she ran over to Naomi, shaking her gently. Ed groaned softly as he woke up with the same headache. He froze when he noticed the ground under him giving more than usual, and he looked around. Noticed they were on a giant cloud in front of a giant gate. And freaked. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!" |
Naomi stirred slightly when Osanna shook her, but jumped when Ed freaked out. She looked around with wide eyes.
"Wow..." she said. "What is this?" Al was freaking out, too, but he wasn't as showy as Ed was. He looked around frantically, jumping at every little thing. "Where are we?" he asked. Kurama, however, seemed to actually relax. "Well, this is certainly more familiar," he commented, going over to wake Yusuke. |
Yusuke groaned as he got up. Then he paused and actually chuckled.
"Well, this is a nice change of scenery. Come on, let's go see what Pacifier Breath wants." Osanna was sitting next to Naomi, looking completely confused and very upset. Ed turned on Yusuke. "What do you mean, Pacifier breath? You know where we are?" he demanded. "Well duh! This is Spirit World. And once you see Koenma you'll know what I mean. Come on." Yusuke grinned jauntily and walked over to the gates, pressing the button to get in. All he had to do was state his name and the gates opened for them. Hiei snorted and shook his head, looking over at the two part-demons. "Hurry up," he said, jerking his head towards the gate. "Won't stay open forever." |
"What is going on?" Naomi asked, standing up and offering a hand to Osanna. "How did we get here? Where is here?"
Al followed closely behind Ed, not wanting to get separated from him. Kurama went through the gate, much more at ease than before. They were back in familiar territory. |
Osanna kept hold of Naomi's hand, staying close to her the entire time. She could sense a lot in that building, and that scared her.
"Don't worry," Yusuke said with a grin, walking through the gate and heading towards the main building. "Everything will be fine." He pushed open the main door and walked through the halls, ignoring all the ogres running around with paperwork. Ed looked kinda freaked out, his eyes wide as he stared around at everything, while Osanna tried to wish herelf into non-existance. |
Naomi was just as freaked out as Osanna. There was way too much going on, and she could sense far too much energy around her for her comfort. She stayed close to her friend and prayed nothing got it into its head to try to eat them or something.
Al was moving from 'freaked out' to 'fascinated' a little quicker than Ed was. He was a little better at taking things in stride, all things considered, and after the past couple days, there wasn't much more that could really weird them out. |
Ed finally stopped freaking out over the ogres just as they got to Koenma's office. Yusuke pushed the door open and went inside.
"Yo, Koenma." "Where have you three been?! We looked all over for you!!" Koenma paused in his yelling at Yusuke when he noticed the other four. "Who are they?" That made Ed freak out again. "It talks!" Osanna actually literally hid behind Naomi, her eyes wide as saucers. |
That pretty much shorted out Naomi's Weird-Shit-O-Meter. She was just completely speechless. There were no words for how unnatural this was.
"These two ladies were kind enough to let us stay with them," Kurama said smoothly. "Unfortunately, they were dragged back with us." This time, Al freaked out, too, and jumped behind his brother. This was just way too weird. |
"Where were you?" Koenma asked again, calmer this time. He could see those four had no idea who he was, so he decided to take pity on them. Sort of.
"I'm Koenma. I rule the Spirit World when my father is away." Osanna just blinked, while Ed looked like that wasn't computing with him. |
"I'm not entirely sure," Kurama replied.
Naomi just kind of blinked, still freaked out. She wasn't quite gaping yet, but it was a distinct possibility. Al didn't blame his brother for pretty much short-circuiting. This was all way too much to take in at once. |
"Hmm. We shall have to investigate this." Koenma did not sound pleased. "But it's a good thing you came back. I have a mission for you."
"Already?! We just got back!" Yusuke complained. "It's not hard, Yusuke. There have been reports of children going missing here." A map popped up on the screen, with little red dots. "We believe there's a group of four demons behind it." |
"What about them?" Kurama asked, gesturing to the other four. They all still seemed to be a bit stunned and unnerved.
|
"Take them with you." Koenma shrugged. "Those two might be able to help." He looked at Naomi and Osanna. "As for them... Well, it'll give them some time to recover. Like I said, this shouldn't be too hard. Now off you go." He made shooing motions with his hands.
Yusuke sighed but started herding people out of Koenma's office so they could go back to the human world, while Hiei led the way. |
That seemed to break Naomi out of a bit of her shock.
"Wait, wait," she said. "Explain this all so it makes proper sense." |
Yusuke sighed. "We work for Koenma," he said. "He sends us out on missions. We kill demons that get out of line and start affecting humans. Most humans don't know that demons even exist, and they can't see demons and apparitions." He shrugged.
Ed growled as he stomped after them. He was not a happy camper. |
"Wait, people think the world is completely human?" Naomi asked. She shook her head. "That's not natural. This whole thing isn't normal."
|
"That's what I've been saying from the start," Ed grumbled.
"Yeah, the world is mostly human." Yusuke chuckled. "Well, with freaks like us. Right, Kurama?" Hiei snorted and went through the portal first, emerging near Genkai's temple back in the human realm. |
"This is so bizarre!" Naomi squeaked. "This world is not normal!"
Al just stayed close to Ed, just trying not to draw attention to himself. Kurama rolled his eyes at Yusuke's joke and ushered the girls through the portal. |
Hiei looked back at Naomi and smirked. "What, you get tossed into another world and you freak out?" He kept the condescencion clear in his voice. "Hn." With that he started walking. If that didn't distract her, nothing would.
Osanna was still kind of in shock, though she'd released Naomi. Now she just walked behind them. The plants all around Genkai's temple helped her calm down, though, and she trailed her fingers along them. Ed was still walking, not too freaked out anymore. His brain had screeched back into motion, at least. |
"I'm sorry, explain to me how any of this makes sense," Naomi snarked back. "I should be at home, where it's cold and things make sense."
Al was slowly getting used to their surroundings, and was starting to look around in interest. |
