Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and plucked his brother off the floor, shoving him at Hisoka. "Say bye to the cat," he told his little brother.
"His'ka going away?" Inuyasha looked up at the cat with a huge pout. "Just for the weekend," Sesshomaru soothed. Kris looked over at Aura. "You'll be okay for the weekend?" she asked, yet again. It was only the third time, which wasn't bad... for her. She just wanted to be sure Aura wouldn't need anything. She wasn't used to leaving her packmate very often, after all. |
"Your brother is staying, though," Hisoka said encouragingly to the pup. "He's going to look after you all weekend."
"I'll be fine," Aura replied for the third time. "Really. I can look after myself for three days." She grinned, and added teasingly, "I am actually an adult, you know." |
Sesshomaru nodded, while Inuyasha grinned, showing little tiny baby canines and one front tooth missing. "Mmkay. Have fun, His'ka!"
Sesshomaru looked at his friend and raised an eyebrow at his attire, just to show that he did notice before he set Inuyasha down again to go make breakfast for the little one. Kris rolled her eyes. "No, you're not. You're not even thirty yet. You're still a baby." She grinned teasingly at her friend. She was just about ready to go; all she needed was Hisoka and Shippou. |
"Oh hush," Aura replied. "I am so legally an adult." She neatly sidestepped the fact that she was still technically the youngest in the household. Even Shippou was older than her, in years.
Hisoka just returned the same expression, somehow turning the meaning around to mean 'what about it?' He had been reluctant to admit, at first, that Kris had been right about the colors. Now, they'd kind of grown on him. "Enjoy your weekend, my lord," he said, nodding to Sesshoumaru. Then he turned and headed out towards Kris's house. |
Kris chuckled and left the pack by the door. "Yea, yeah. Hisoka should be here soon, and then we'll be on our way. You can try calling me if something happens, like the house burning down or something."
Sesshomaru inclined his head, watching him go. He didn't expect to get Aura for a couple hours yet, so he let Inuyasha run around while he prepared breakfast, making sure the kid ate. |
"You'll be the first to know, I guarantee it," Aura replied. She glanced around. "Where's Shippou?"
It didn't take Hisoka long to get there, and he knocked on the door, waiting patiently for someone to open it. |
"Still asleep, I think. I'll wake him up once we get there." Kris opened the door, about to jog upstairs when she noticed what Hisoka was wearing. She froze for a moment, looking extremely surprised, her eyes wide.
|
Aura turned around to see what had surprised Kris, and stopped as well. Then, she reached into her pocket, pulled out her cell phone, and snapped a picture.
Hisoka raised an eyebrow at the gesture. "Photograpic evidence of this historic moment," Aura replied to the unspoken question. |
Kris bit her lower lip but turned and headed upstairs to get Shippou. "I'll be back in a minute," she said. She managed to gather up Shippou, holding him easily. He was still asleep, one foot sticking out of her arm, and she slipped the backpack on, settling it.
"I'll see you in three days," she said to Aura, giving her a quick one-armed hug. |
"Make sure you don't forget to come back," Aura teased as she returned the hug. "Really, though, have fun."
Hisoka let the two exchange their temporary good-byes, and stepped out of the way so that Kris could leave the house first. He would follow her to their destination. He still hadn't commented on the yukata, and neither had she. He was kind of looking forward to seeing if she would. |
Kris made sure Hisoka was behind her before she started running, heading away from the city. It didn't take long to leave civilization behind, and she went through the suburbs easily. It was too early for most humans to be up, which helped.
"You're wearing it," Kris said after a good half hour of silent running. "I'm surprised. I didn't think you liked it." She dared a glance over at him. |
"I liked it more than I initially thought I would," Hisoka admitted. He glanced at her. "You have good taste." Both of which were true. What he didn't say quite yet is that he wore it for her.
|
Kris grinned, clearly pleased, and kept running. Today was turning out to be a good day so far.
A few hours later, she slowed down, still just inside the treeline. Beyond the trees, a flat, open area surrounded a good-sized lake. She sniffed around a bit to make sure no other youkai had tried to infringe on her territory before she set off for the little house nestled back between the trees. Sesshomaru figured Aura would be up and nestled Inuyasha against his shoulder, since the pup was sleeping again, before he went to go get Aura. He didn't want to leave the pup home alone on the off chance he woke up and broke something, or somesuch thing, so he just brought him with. It didn't take long to get to Aura's house, and then he knocked on the door, waiting politely. |
Hisoka followed her towards the house, looking around that the area as they went. It was a beautiful area, out far enough not to be bothered by any humans but still not too terribly far from civilization. He approved.
Aura was just finishing up getting ready when she heard the knock on the door. She knew who it was before she even opened it; she could feel the tingling buzz of youki across the house. She had to bite back a soft 'awww' when she saw Inuyasha sleeping against Sesshoumaru's shoulder, though. The pup was really that adorable. |
Kris opened the door, moving inside. There were only two rooms, a main room with a small, rickety-looking table and a few mats, and a sleeping room shielded by a folding screen. She sneezed once, wiggling her nose to rid it of the lingering smell of raccoon.
"Freakin' poachers," she grumbled, stepping farther in. Sesshomaru quirked an eyebrow at her. "Are you ready to go?" he asked quietly, giving her a quick once over. He still wanted to get her some youkai-made clothes. Maybe this weekend, with the excuse of getting the pup something new? |
Hisoka could smell the lingering raccoon stench and wrinkled his nose as well. He never particularly liked the scent of raccoon, and honestly found the little things to be amusing hunting fodder, when he got particularly bored.
"They are easy enough to drive out again," he commented. "Turning them into an impromptu hunting lesson may not be a bad idea." Aura nodded, and went to get the bag she packed. She'd tossed in an extra shirt or two, just in case. Never hurt to be prepared, right? "I'm ready," she said. |
"I know. I've had to deal with them before. They seem to like this place." Muttering under her breath, Kris set Shippou down to go explore while she checked the futons and canned food.
"You swim?" She looked over at Hisoka again. Sesshomaru nodded. "We can walk, or I can carry you. It is up to you." He raised an eyebrow just a little, letting her choose. He was in no great hurry, since they did have three whole days. |
"I can swim," Hisoka replied. He didn't particularly like to swim, but he could if he had to. He knew that wasn't quite what Kris was asking, but that was his answer.
"Is it far?" Aura asked. She didn't mind walking, really, but within a reasonable distance. |
Kris smirked but kept her back to him, rifling around for a few moments while she got out futons and blankets and things that they'd need later on. "I see. Well, we'll be swimming later. I have suitable attire for that if you didn't come prepared."
"It is a few miles," Sesshomaru said after a moment. "Whichever route you prefer is acceptable." |
"I can handle a few miles," Aura replied. She knew from experience that a mile taken at an easy walk was about fifteen minutes or so, maybe twenty. "It'll take about an hour walking, though, so... I mean, if you want to go faster than that..."
"I brought something suitable," Hisoka said. He made sure he packed properly. He might not necessarily like swimming, but he got the distinct feeling that he wasn't going to be given much of a choice. |
"It is of no consequence to me." Sesshomaru quirked a tiny smile. Unless, of course, his brother woke up. But by that time he'd be able to have them back to his house fairly quickly, he knew from experience. So he wasn't worried.
Kris nodded again and got everything set up, glancing over at Hisoka speculatively. The bedroom could fit all three of them, and she knew Shippou was used to sleeping with her, but Hisoka might be a stretch. Not for the kit; she knew he'd love the company. But who knew what cats were like? |
"You're not helpful, sometimes," Aura accused teasingly. "It doesn't matter to me, either, so pick one." She didn't want to inconvenience him, but it seemed like she would either way, so it didn't matter really which way he picked.
Hisoka waited to see where Kris would put him. He wouldn't mind sleeping in the next room, if his presence made her uncomfortable in this one. He was already scoping out the windows in both rooms that would let in the most sunlight. Never let it be said that he didn't nap in the sun every so often. |
"We will walk, then." For the moment, at least. Sesshomaru moved aside and waited patiently while she locked up. He had as much time as he needed, and while he didn't officially have permission to start courting her yet, he could at least see if she was interested.
Kris set aside another futon, in case he decided he wanted to sleep in the living room instead, before she stretched out briefly. It was still fairly early, and she wasn't hungry. She had made sure to bring some snacks for Shippou, though. "Well, any ideas what we want to do now?" She looked at the two males. "Swimming?" Shippou asked hopefully. "We don't we wait until it's a little warmer, hmm? It'll feel even nicer then." Kris slanted a sly look at Hisoka. |
"Alright," Aura said. Grabbing her bag, she fished her keys out of it and locked the door behind her. "Alright, ready when you are."
Hisoka tactfully ignored the sly look. There was no way for him to respond to it without sounding like he was whining, so he just didn't respond. He did, however, move one of the chairs in the main room over closer to the south window. The sunlight was just starting to come in through it, and would most likely be shining through it all day, making it the perfect napping spot. |
Sesshomaru started walking placidly back towards his house. He knew it might be hard for her to keep up if he was seriously going somewhere, since he was much taller than her, but he was in no rush.
"Come on, squirt. I'll show you around the place." Kris grinned. "We've got about six acres to explore, after all." Shippou grinned, looking delighted. |
