Sesshomaru kept his arms wrapped loosely around his son, looking out the window. He could feel the particular energy around Katsuro meaning he would change back any moment. And then his son and his mate would both be able to get some more sleep.
|
Katsuro fidgeted a little as it got closer to sunrise, but relaxed and snuggled closer to his father once daybreak came. The world was right again.
Aura could feel the faint youki of her son skittering over her skin as the sun rose, and relaxed as well. Now Katsuro would go back to sleep, and so could she. She knew Sesshoumaru would stay awake like usual to keep an eye on things. |
Sesshomaru shifted and let them both get more comfortable, making sure they were both okay, before resuming his silent vigil.
Kris managed to keep all the rest of the kids asleep and occupied until almost mid-morning, giving Aura a chance to sleep more. Then she loosed them on the house, going to cook breakfast. |
Aura woke up when Kris set the kids free on the house. Of course, the children being set free meant that she got pounced on by Inuyasha as he bounced across her to jump on his brother.
"Sess!" he said, hanging on his brother's shoulder. "Can we play today?" |
Sesshomaru glanced at Aura to make sure she was fine (which he was fairly sure she was since she was used to it) before he nodded. "In a little while. After breakfast." He shifted his grip on Katsuro to make sure his son was still comfortable.
|
"Just us?" the pup pressed, a little hesitantly. He couldn't help but glance at Katsuro and then back at his brother.
Aura looked at them, and then reached over to take Katsuro gently. "I'll take him and get us some breakfast," she said. |
Sesshomaru nodded and pulled Inuyasha into his lap. "Just us," he said quietly. "Would you like to learn more about hunting?" He hadn't done that with any of the other little ones, so he figured Inuyasha might like the bonding time.
Kris looked over at Aura and grinned briefly, shoving more bread in the little oven to toast. "Morning." |
Inuyasha nodded happily, briefly snuggling with his brother.
"Morning," Aura replied, going into the kitchen with her son. "What are you making?" |
Sesshomaru kept an arm around him, letting him snuggle for a few moments. He didn't mind, and apparently the pup needed it.
"Toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, and waffles. Or pancakes." Kris shrugged. "What sounds better?" |
"You had me at 'waffles,'" Aura replied, setting her son on the counter. Katsuro sat there, watching Kris cook with interest, although he did lean a little bit when Aura rubbed one of his ears gently.
|
Kris snickered and nodded, starting to mix up some waffle batter before she pulled her old waffle iron down and let it heat up. Fortunately for her, she could multitask.
|
Aura kept doting on her son as she watched Kris cook. She always spoiled him a little after his human night. She knew she was probably spoiling him a bit too much, but she couldn't help it.
Hisoka noticed the exchange between Sesshoumaru and his brother. "I doubt Aura would mind if you spent your time with your brother today, milord," he suggested. The meaning was clear: it would give Sesshoumaru a chance to figure out what was bothering his brother. |
Kris managed to get everything cooking at the same time so she could have everything ready at about the same time, muttering to herself as she cooked. She grinned briefly and started putting whatever was ready out on platters so people could serve themselves.
Sesshomaru nodded a little. Yes, he was worried about Inuyasha's odd behavior. "After breakfast," he repeated quietly. Once the pup had eaten, he'd go take Inuyasha hunting so they could talk. |
Aura helped Kris whenever the kitsune needed an extra set of hands, although she did keep an eye on Katsuro the whole time. Even though he was still quite a bit younger than most the children she looked after at the daycare, she still knew how much trouble a pup could get into on his own.
Hisoka nodded and turned his attention to herding the children. He knew it was almost time for breakfast, and it was easier to get them all sitting down at the same time if he started a bit early. |
Kris grinned and put the last platter on the table. "Okay, breakfast is ready!" She grinned and started loading a plate for Alex, knowing Shippou could get his own. And Hisoka already had Aiko, so he could get her food.
Sesshomaru looked at Inuyasha for a moment before he picked up the pup, carrying him into the kitchen. Maybe he just needed a little more attention. He was still young, for a pup. |
Hisoka made a plate and sat down, Aiko settled in his lap. Clearly, it was his turn to feed her this morning. Not that he minded, of course.
Aura was already filling a plate for Katsuro and herself. He was still too young for more than soft foods, and she needed to keep an eye on him anyways. Inuyasha cuddled close to his brother, glad to have his attention again. It was just like before, which is what he wanted. |
Once everyone had settled down to eat, Kris relaxed. Okay, this she could handle. But she still had to deal with her father. Or whoever the hell that man was. Her eyes flashed to the window, but he wasn't there. Shaking her head, she returned her attention to Alex and Shippou.
Sesshomaru settled down there, letting Inuyasha eat what he wanted off the plate while keeping an eye on Kris. She seemed nervous, and that was unusual and made him wonder why. |
Hisoka moved over a little, closer to Kris, and put an arm around her waist. He could tell she was still bothered by what happened the day before.
Aura noticed that Kris was nervous, too, and sent her a questioning look. Something wasn't right. It wasn't enough for either of the men to seem worried -- yet -- but Aura still wanted to know what was going on. |
Kris shook her head a little, indicating she'd tell Aura later. She didn't want the little ones to worry... or get excited, which might also happen.
Sesshomaru helped clean up quietly once breakfast was finished, thinking where he could take Inuyasha to go hunting without getting too far away from his mate. |
Aura nodded back to Kris to show she understood. Once breakfast was cleaned up, she went over to Sesshoumaru.
"Go on and spend some time with him," she said. "I think that's really what he wants." It made sense to her, after all. New baby taking up too much time? 'Older sibling' gets jealous. She knew it was a common phenomena, one she should have thought about before. |
Sesshomaru nodded and picked up Inuyasha again, heading outside to go find a good hunting ground.
"Hold up a sec," Kris called, jogging over to them. "There's a place I take Shippou hunting, off that way. You'll know when you get there. Tons of critters." Sesshomaru nodded, surprised. He hadn't expected her to share a hunting ground with him. "Thank you." He headed off in that direction. Kris watched for a moment before she shook her head and moved back inside to entertain the little ones. |
Aura was on the floor with the children, playing with them as she might have at the daycare. This was something she could do, and these kids already knew how to watch their claws and be careful with a human, since they all had experience with how fragile humans could be. It was paying off, as well; Aura hadn't gotten any scratches or anything yet.
|
Kris watched over them all, making sure no one got too rough and no one got too tired. As soon as Aiko started to slow down, rubbing one eye, Kris scooped her up.
"Time for a nap, little one," she said quietly, affectionately nuzzling her daughter's cheek. Aiko just yawned and grumbled something unintelligible. |
Katsuro started winding down at about the same time, so Aura carefully slipped out from the pile of children and picked him up. Settling on the couch, she let him curl up on her lap and he dozed off quickly.
|
Kris looked at her other two kids and snorted; they were both looking at her now. "Okay, okay," she agreed, moving over to the living room and pulling out a spare futon. "Naptime for everyone."
She looked up at Aura, kneeling on the futon and setting down Aiko. "I can get you another one, if you wanted," she offered quietly. "So we can all get some sleep. I'm sure Hisoka wouldn't mind holding down the fort for a couple of hours." |
