Sesshomaru nodded, already figuring out what he could get for her. He left the library silently, heading back to the kitchen.
"We're leaving for the night," he said quite calmly. "To let the kit get settled in. We'll be back in the morning." Kris glanced over at him and nodded briefly, distracted, before she went back to cooking. She was almost done cooking, so they'd be able to eat soon. |
Aura looked over and nodded as well.
"Alright," she said. It was a little strange that they were leaving so early, but it wasn't like they had to be there. It took Aura a few moments to realize that she wasn't actively trying to get them to leave anymore... especially Sesshoumaru. That was weird. |
Kris just shrugged when they left, shaking her head and finishing up dinner before she served it. She cleaned everything afterwards, and Shippou moved into her room with her to sleep.
She was, once again, the first person up in the morning when Sesshomaru and Hisoka arrived. Sesshomaru knocked, and Kris let him in, resigned to the fact that he'd find a way in even if she didn't let him in. |
Aura was so used to the youkai being around now that the tingling wave of youki arriving didn't wake her. She was so used to getting up when they arrived, though, that she woke up on her own within a few moments, anyways, and walked out of her room.
Hisoka nodded his head to Kristine. "Good morning," he greeted. "Has your new charge settled in okay?" He did care, since it would affect everyone if the kit wasn't settling in properly, and it seemed like a safe enough topic for the time of day. There would be more chances to talk later on. |
Kris nodded. "Yeah, he's doing fine." She paused for a moment. "In fact..."
"Kriii-iiis," Shippou called from the top of the stairs. "Why didn't you tell me?" He was still half-asleep, rubbing one eye as he moved downstairs. Kris just chuckled. "Sorry, little one," she murmured. "I forgot to mention. They come every morning at this time." Sesshomaru looked around for Aura. He had some surprises outside for her. "Aura?" he called quietly. He could track her easily, but he didn't want to intrude on her privacy. |
"I'm awake, I swear," Aura mumbled as she came down the stairs, rubbing her eyes. She barely noticed the fizzy feeling of youki on her skin, even as she walked right past Shippou. "Is it just me, or are you here earlier than usual?"
"It is a little earlier," Hisoka replied. His lordship had wanted to arrive a bit earlier than usual. If Hisoka didn't know better, he would even go so far as to say that the taiyoukai had been almost excited to show Aurellia what he'd gotten for her. |
Sesshomaru didn't quite smile, but he did look happier than normal. "Is the library door open?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at her. He did have to get the bookcases in there, after all.
Kris shook her head and went into the kitchen to find breakfast for Shippou. She glanced back idly to see if Hisoka was coming too or not. She'd gotten used to him popping in and out of her kitchen. |
"It can be," Aura replied, both confused and intrigued now. She could see the faintest hint of a smile on his face, and had to remind herself it was entirely too early to melt into a puddle. Going the rest of the way down the stairs, she went and opened the door of the library, and then stepped back to see what he was planning.
Hisoka did follow her, although now it was more out of habit than anything else. The ground floor was essentially set to rights, so now he just followed her. Although the thought did cross his mind to suggest they start working on the second floor while Sesshoumaru and Aura were preoccupied with the library. |
Sesshomaru nodded and brought in the first bookcase, a dark cherry five-shelf thing. He set it exactly where he'd pictured it, having made space for that one and another, smaller one that he brought in just after he settled the first one. Then he stepped back and nodded.
"You did say you needed more space for your books. Kris got cereal for Shippou, who ate two bowls before he went back to his explorations, rifling through drawers and looking around. Kris just pushed herself up to sit on the counter top, keeping track of him with a faint smile. |
"Oh wow..." Aura breathed as she watched him put the bookcases in place. Her awe was divided equally between the beautifully made shelves and the man carrying them inside. The shelves looked sturdy and elegant at the same time, but still seemed to fit right in with the other mismatched bookcases in the library. Sesshoumaru, on the other hand... He had carried them in seemingly without any effort at all. Aura was very impressed.
Hisoka watched the two foxes. It seemed like the kit had already been adopted, and was already doing Kris some good. He paused when he realized he'd referred to her as Kris rather than Kristine. That was an interesting development... "If I might make a suggestion...?" he offered. "Perhaps we could start upstairs today and see about clearing some space? I'm sure the boy would like a room to call his own at some point." |
Sesshomaru paused, stepping back to survey their placement, before he moved one just a little, making them fit even better. Then he nodded his satisfaction and looked back at her.
"Do you have any books left in your room?" Kris hesitated only a moment before she nodded. "Yeah. There's an extra room upstairs that we've been using as a sort of everything room." She glanced at Hisoka. He was going to have a fit when he saw it... |
"Yeah, I'm sure I do," Aura replied, still a little in awe. She looked at him. "You didn't have to do this, you know. These must have cost a fortune..."
"Then perhaps we should start there?" he suggested. "The sooner the room is cleared, the sooner it can be turned into something he would like." And for once, Hisoka wasn't thinking about how to get her to agree. He was suggesting it because he knew it would please her to make Shippou happy. |
Sesshomaru shook his head. "You needed them. Besides, I didn't mind." He flashed her a brief, small smile. He was satisfied with the placement. Now all he had to do was get the books out of her room and they could reorganize all the books.
Kris nodded and washed the bowl and spoon that Shippou had used before she led the way up to the extra room. Which looked kind of like her room. Or Aura's room. Clothes in a few piles, a few books scattered around, and various other things taking up the whole room. |
Aura blushed when he smiled at her.
"I--I think I should--go that way," she managed, flustered. She slipped out of the library and back upstairs to her room, trying to regain her composure. She had no idea he would look like that when he smiled! It had felt like her insides just kind of turned to mush. Hisoka followed her up to the extra room and stopped. This room was worse than the entire downstairs had been. Things seemed to just be randomly piled about the room, nearly a meter deep in some places. The only area where he could see floor was a narrow path that seemed to be just wide enough to walk on. It meandered around the piles, going by each major mound at least once. It was almost impressive, a kind of achievement in and of itself. "Well," he said after a moment, "we may as well begin." |
Sesshomaru couldn't help but smirk at that. Well, well. That got quite a reaction, one that he hadn't been anticipating. Hmm. This would be very interesting indeed.
He let her run away, though. He made sure everything was in order for the moment before he went to check the downstairs. May as well look. Kris nodded and started working on sorting the clothes she could see and get to, making two piles: one for her, one for Aura. She'd move the piles back into their rooms a little later. |
Hisoka disappeared downstairs for a moment, and then came back with a bundle of trash bags. He got the feeling he would need them, and already he had one open.
"I think it would be a good idea to start a bag for clothing you no longer wear," he said. "Things in good enough condition to donate. It is a better option than just throwing things out or keeping what is no longer useful." |
Kris nodded, going through her clothes and tossing what she didn't need anymore. She found a few books and tossed those in the hallway.
"Don't worry," she said before Hisoka could protest. "I'll put them downstairs. I just want to get part of this done first." |
Hisoka had indeed been about to comment, and closed his mouth again.
"Well, there is more space for them, now," he said instead. "So they will be brought downstairs later on, and put into their proper place." |
Kris grumbled something about neat freaks that she didn't entirely mean, but she did keep cleaning. She tossed one bag out in the hallway, since it was full, and dumped the rest of the clothes in her room.
She didn't keep track of Hisoka when she worked, so when she cleared one pile and backed up to move to another one, she almost tripped over him. Literally. |
Hisoka reached out and grabbed her wrist when she tripped, keeping her from falling.
"I'm sorry," he said, once he was sure she wasn't going to fall and get hurt in some way, "I did not mean to be in your way." |
Kris turned red when he caught her. She had not been expecting that.
"My fault. I wasn't watching where I was going," she mumbled. She righted herself, nudging a small emerald out of the way as she did. |
Hisoka reached out and picked up the emerald, nudging it gently into her hand. It wasn't a particularly large gem, by youkai standards, but it would be worth quite a bit if sold to the right human jeweler.
"You should put that somewhere safe," he said. "It wouldn't be good to let it get lost." |
Kris had to blink a few times at that gesture. It was a little more personal than she was used to, but she managed to ignore her instincts, which started looking at him in a different way.
"I hadn't even realized it got in here," she mumbled. "Must have gotten out of the box at some point. Huh." |
"Well, it's been found again, that's what matters," Hisoka replied as he got back to work throwing out trash that had accumulated in the room. "We will have to see what else emerges from the room. I am certain there are other things yet to be discovered that have not been seen in a long time."
|
Kris shook herself, a little physical shiver, and merely nodded before she vanished back to her room to put the emerald away. Then she went back to cleaning, a little more aware of him now. Which was a little confusing for her.
