Kyoya would move along on the little route he designated for himself about the room, checking up on the customers and hosts once again. Tamaki seemed more joyful now, which was a relief Kyoya would never admit to having, and his guests were as happy as usual if not moreso. The quiet, dark-haired man would then circulate back towards the wall of windows at the back of the room, seating himself at a chair by a window as he withdrw his clipboard and calculator to work with figuring out expenses. This was when he caught a glance of it, the smile on Teagan's face. He paused his work for a moment, his pencil even lifting from the page before he caught himself and lowered his gaze to working once more. If anyone had cared to look at the man, they would notice a warm grin lining his lips, but with his head lowered to look at his clipboard and his back to the tables of guests, it would be nearly impossible to do so. He was glad she was enjoying herself.
And so, the rest of the day went much in that fashion. Teagan sat and enjoyed being in the presence of Haruhi. Bye the end of the day, once the customers were gone, she began to tidy up. Sure, it was maid work, but Teagan preferred it that way. Her father had put it in her head that if one contributed to a mess, one should contribute to the clean up. So she tidied up, humming the whole time. It was clear that Teagan was worlds better off than when she first stumbled into the 3rd Music Room.
Kyoya was the last of the hosts to be sticking around to oversee the end of the work day for them and their guests. After seeing off his blonde counterpart he moved to exit as well, but not before catching sight of Teagan cleaning up aft everyone. While he had work to do at home, something in his mind nagged him. So sighing softly to himself, he turned around to face her with a grin. Instead of speaking he went directly about lifting chairs to place upon the tables as they were nightly, hoisting each carefully over his shoulder to place joint he tabletops. Then after a moment of consideration, he spoke up, "How was your first day at Ouran?"
"Scary!" She said. "And wonderful." Teagan added with a sweet sort of sigh and a small smile. "I think walking into here was the luckiest mistake I've ever made." She said as she wiped away some crumbs on the table. She hummed a little song. "Sooo, Fujioka-san... How long has he been a host?" She asked curiously. "He seems very popular among the girls. It's easy to see why." She said as she went about her work, pushing her long hair back over her shoulder.
Her reaction surprised him a bit, but he grinned and nodded along with her words. "I suppose so," he began, regarding what she'd said about her first day. Being crowded by male adolescents constantly didn't sound very pleasant. Then quieting as she mentioned her entry to the host club and then speaking of Haupruhi in such a wistful manner. He'd seen this reaction from women before many times about his fellow hosts, it was nothing new and he dismissed it as normal. His suspicions were only confirmed by her words, a humorous gleam in his eyes shining as he returned to setting up chairs. "Fujioka-san began under Tamaki's wing a few weeks into this school year," he replied casually, "He has had much success for our club."
Teagan just giggled a bit. "I can understand why. He's just... He's very kind, and he stuck up for me more than once today. And kept me from going out into the hall again. He's really a very sweet guy. I bet all the girls wish they had him." She said with a little laugh. "I dunno. I feel so bad about the way I acted towards Fujioka-san at first. But I definitely like spending time around him. He's not like the other boys that try to hurt me and push me into relationships." She said as she finished up wiping the tables. She then grinned back at Kyoya then went to the window. "I am definitely glad I got to meet him, and you, and Honey and Morinozuka-sempai!" She said.
Kyoyawould listen with a typical, indifferent expression, though the slight grin that lined his lips would warm it some. Still, it meant nothing while his thoughts were otherwise preoccupied. Her words were typical, things he had heard many times, though normally girls would only speak to him of such if it were about the prince, Tamaki. The idea that the girl seemed to have a growing fascination with Haruhi was humorous in some manner, but truly being confided in was not something he knew how to react to even with his best friend being much adored. "He is quite something," he commented with a grin, glancing in her direction before moving or finish stacking the chairs atop the tables. He turned to face her as she finished speaking, and would have to admit he found himself quite taken aback by her. It was indeed a compliment in many respects, however, so he would nod to herslightly, "I am glad to have made your acquaintance as well," he spoke oddly, his voice touching just barely with a certain warmth that it otherwise lacked.
Teagan turned and grinned, pressing her hands together. "Really, I have you to thank the most of all! Because of you letting me stay, I'm safe, and I got to meet you all!" she said brightly as she moved over to him. She grinned up at him. "I promise you I will pay you back by baking the best sweets you've ever had!" She promised. "If you'd like, you and the other hosts are invited to my suite to sample my baking skills." She said. She lived in a seperate suite from her main family, as she really didn't have much of a place among her mother's new family.
Behind his glasses, his eyes widened a tad, not enough to be obvious but visibly so if someone were looking close enough. His thought muddled a bit and he found himself having a bit of a hard time forming a decent response, though outwardly he'd simply appear as calm as usual. "It is really no problem, as a host it is my job," he replied simply, then taking in the rest of what she said, including her invitiation, with a grin. Hearing that she lived in a suite was odd, but he said nothing of it, instead taking up his clipboard and thinking it over for a moment, "That sounds like a lovely idea," he commented, "I'm sure the others will think so as well."
"Well then, let's set it up for this Saturday at 3 pm!" She said. Her phone then buzzed and she looked at it. "Oh! I've got to go. My tennis lessons are soon and I need to get home." She nodded. "Have a nice evening, Ootori-san! And thank you again!" She said before she turned to take off. All in all it had been a very, very good day, even despite the rocky start.
Just moments after she left, Haruhi entered again. "Forgot my bag." She said. She then glanced at Kyoya. "Ahh, are you alright, Kyoya-senpai?" She asked, noting that Kyoya seemed a bit different from the normal, cool, collected Kyoya she knew. |
Kyoya would nod once, glancing down at his clipboard to confirm that the hosts had no prior arrangements that day. "That works," he replied a bit absentmindedly as he jotted it down. Then looking up at her blankly, he would reply, "Ah, you too, Nakashima-san." yet as the girl left, his gaze trailed after her for but a moment, a slight grin lining his lips. Needless to say he was caught a bit off guard by Haruhi's entrance. Letting out a soft, nearly in audible sigh, he would nod, "Quite alright." Then slipping his clipboard back up off the table he had set it down upon, he would send a short wave to Haruhi, "Good evening."
Haruhi grinned a bit and nodded before waving back. "Have a good evening, Kyoya-sempai." Haruhi said after grabbing her bag. It didn't take a genius to see that something was up with Kyoya. But it was a good something as far as Haruhi could tell, so she didn't bother him too much about it. What Haruhi wasn't connecting was the dots that would have lined up in the direction of Miss Nakashima. Needless to say, the rest of that evening went on with little incidence as everyone parted ways for their own homes.
The following morning, Teagan was there at the 3rd music room bright and early, working on her list just as dutifully as anyone could do anything. |
Quite naturally, Kyoya was the first of the hosts to arrive in their music room-- so he was more than taken back to see the Teagan was already there, not only there, but seemingly hard at work. As he slipped on in through the dor, he would knock on it gently so as not to startle her, then speak up, "You're here earlier, Nakashima-san." He spoke out of surprise, a grin crossing his face as he approached casually to see what she was up to. The list was hard to make out on his part, gratitude welling a bit in his mind. He found it sweet of her to be working on it so deliberately, even if he suspected she was so motivated now due to Haruhi. That or perhaps she was grateful for their acceptance of her. In any case, it was refreshing to see, and as he looked it over from the opposite side of the table where he stood, he a warm quality would overtake some of his features. Though he kept his usual composure and daren't speak of whatever odd feeling stirred him, there were little things about him, his gaze, his posture, that loosened up considerably.
Thanks to his gentle entrance, she wasn't too startled. She just smiled and looked up for a moment. "Bonjour, Ootori-san!" She said. Today, her hair was waved a bit, as her mother had insisted she do something to make herself look a bit more presentable. "I came in early so I could dodge other students." She explained with a sheepish sort of smile. "How do you do this morning?" She was just finishing up the list. And it was a very precise one at that, including amounts needed and the total yields of all recipes she was making. She finished, the folded the paper neatly and pushed it towards him.
Nodding slightly towards her as she greeted him, Kyoya would return her welcome simply, "Good morning." The difference in her hair was something he quickly picked up on much to his own surprise, but observed it quietly without question. Her explanation for coming in so early struck a sort of chord in him, if only a small one. Grinning he would show his understanding in his answer, his voice casual yet with a tone of sympathy, "I see." Ten glancing at the list to watch her finish the last bit up, he let a small shrug roll off of his slender shoulders, "I'm alright, I suppose. How about yourself? No trouble this morning?" He asked this more to make conversation than anything, for he had the skill to, though he frequently chose not to. He preferred the company of few, as he had found, though so far he hadn't minded hers in the least sense.
She stood. "I'm doing well. I came in a little early, and it was peaceful, so I wanted to finish that list. I didn't have any trouble today, fortunately. I suppose it helps that I didn't really run into anyone this morning until you." Teagan glanced towards the door periodically, and it was obvious she hoped to see Haruhi walk in at some point. "Ootori-san, where did the idea for the host club come from?" She asked, distracting herself from her thoughts. "How long has it existed?" She seemed to take an interest in how everyone had come together to do something like this. It really wasn't something one saw happening all the time in schools, so she was interested.
Kyoya shifted a tad oddly, nothing all that noticeable, but something caused by his discomfort. Of course she had had no trouble yet this morning, she had ome one early. Usually, he would have deducted that upon seeing her here. Mentally he scolded himself a bit while he grinned outwardly, nodding, "Good to hear." it was obvious to him where her attention leaned, with her gaze flickering towards the door every other minute or so, and with his knowledge of how well Haruhhi and she had gotten along it was difficult not to suspect the reasoning for this. Her suddent interest in the club caught him a bit off guard, but not enough so for him to show it, for he replied casually, knowing the story well. It was a frequently asked question, though normally Tamaki would be present to answer for him.
"Why, it was Tamaki's idea," he chuckled softly, a grin upon his face as he shook his head slightly, "We've been friends for a while now, and one day he proposed the idea of starting a club to me. Naturally, I was interested in what he meant," he paused there, looking about the room for a moment before continuing. "He wanted to do something to make people happy, that's just how he is. He wished to entertain the ladies of the school, and this is how he chose to do so." his explanation he believed was simple enough, not wishing to get so far into depth if she was so distracted. To him, it was clear, so he would find a way to distract himself as he tended to do when he was not needed. "Ah, thank you. I'll have the ingredients to you this afternoon," he spoke as she handed over the list to him. Then moving to fetch his clipboard on the other side of the room, other hosts would slip on in, some more timely than others. Noteably early was Tamaki, who wanted to talk about an upcoming event with Kyoya, about which he was rather excited. Then the twins, Mori carrying Honey, and Haruhi-- with whom the twins were quick to greet. |
She watched as Tamaki entered, taking notes on how Kyoya was so calm, and trying to keep herself in a similar way. He seemed to be rather excited about something, and had Teagan not been near phobic of Tamaki, she would have been quite curious. Instead of asking though, she focused her attentions on everyone else who entered. She stood and greeted Mori and Honey sweetly. "Bonjour Morinozuka-sempai and Honey-sempai. Honey-sempai, I've made up a special cake recipe just for you to try out on Saturday!" She said brightly. However, when Teagan spotted Haruhi, she got very distracted and quiet. Instinct said to go say hi, but then the twins were over there, and they still scared her.
She sat for a while, hoping they'd part ways, but when they didn't, she ambled over there shyly. "Ah... Bonjour, Fukioka-san... Uhmm..." She bit her lip as she reached into a pocket of her bag and pulled out a small box with a tag that was in fancy script, and said thanks. "Uhm, I was really grateful for your company yesterday, so I... I made you a present as thanks!" She said, her cheeks and even ears turning redder by the second as she held out the box to Haruhi. Haruhi flushed because she was sure Hikaru and Kaoru would give her grief about this later, but smiled. "Ah, thank you! That's so nice of you!" She said, gratefully to the flustered redhead. |
Kyoya would listen intently to Tamaki as he always did, taking a few notes as he spoke, his demeanor calming even moreso as he was greeted by his friend. The blonde before him was sure a spirited man, full of engorge at the moment as he explained an array of ideas for the upcoming school day in an animated fashion. It was natural of him, but it still struck a bit of warmth in Kyoya. A lazy grin slid along his face, resting there as he spoke with his friend, countering with financial aspects as Tamaki went for extravagance as expected. His gaze found itself behind the talking boy at one point, focusing in on Teagan's greeting to Haruhi, and the gift the girl presented the other. The flush on both faces was unmistakeable-- Haruhi's, naturally, because of separate reasons than what he suspected Teagan's was for.
His grin curled wider, becoming sly, humor tinting his eyes as their quick discussion ended and Tamaki went off to see that his table was set up properly in anticipation for guests. Kyoya seated himself at a table, observing the others leisurely as his mind wound around their finances once more. The importations Tamaki expected for tomorrow were ludicrous, but would no doubt strike awe in their guests. He mused over whether or not he should alert the others that costumes would be awaiting them once more, not that they weren't used to such by now. |
As everyone settled into their seets, Teagan scurried off to prepare tea and a light breakfast for the hosts. She'd baked some peach scones this morning, and had kept them warm until now. She brought a tray with cups for tea and a pot with sugar and cream on one tray, then in the other hand, carried the tray of scones. "I... I made these for everyone!" She said with a sweet smile. "I hope you enjoy!" She said as she placed the trays down on the table. For someone who'd spent her first day bumping into people, she was rather graceful. After setting the tea and food down, she then backed away so that she wouldn't disrupt everyone.
Kyoya again found his gaze trailing casually not behind Teagan as she produced peach scones, seemingly still hot from the look of them. While he wasn't the one for sweets, he was the nearest to the tray, and didn't want to appear rude. All the same, as he stood and walked over to them casually he felt his appetite site in light of their smell and dainty appearance. "Thank you," he would speak as he carefully selected a scone. Then placing it upon a napkin, he would turn to face Honey and hand it to him as if he had known the boy would be soon to follow. Then fetching one for himself as well as a cup of tea, he would move to sit upon a tabletop, legs crossed casually out in front of him. After a bite, he would pause, then grin after swallowing, "You're talented in the kitchen," he complimented as he titled his head slightly to look over at Teagan. Then carefully dropping the subject, he would casually ask, "Miss Nakahima, have you any experience with crescents?"
Tamaki, mid bite began to swoon to himself at the idea, "Tomorrow we're taking the club to Italy!" |
Teagan grinned at the compliment. "Ah, thank you. I'm not much for academics or sports, but I think I'm pretty crafty at baking." She said as she sat against the wall and out of the way. She smiled seeing Honey enjoy the scones too. "Crescents? Yes, I know how to make them. We have an old family recipe that we follow, and I've been told they are really good." She explained. She went on to say more only to have Tamaki mention Italy. "Really? That's interesting." She actually seemed interested in something Tamaki had to say.
Haruhi just blinked. She still wasn't used to Tamaki's out there ideas. "Italy, Tamaki-sempai?" She asked, curiously. |
Kyoya would grin and continue his scone, then finishing it off with a sip of tea. He ate neatly, but still wiped his mouth with a napkin as had been instilled in many at this skill. Hearing that she knew how to make then, the raven-haired man would smile, un crossing and recrossing his long legs before him as he leaned delicately against the table he sat upon. His palms pressed gently to the tabletop, he would nod in acknowledgment of her words before noting that it seemed she actually had taken up an interest in Tamaki's words. Perhaps thwould be getting alone soon, as well? Though he wouldn't jump to conclusions.
Of course, it was most definitely not the time to be jumping to conclusions. It seemed Tamaki was acting very much so like himself today, again practically swooning once more at Teagan's interest, and Haruhi's question and cute expression. "Yes, Daddy is taking his children off to Italy tomorrow, Kyoya is organizing for costumes, there will be music and food and...." the blonde went on in a cheerful rant as Kyoya let out a soft sigh, a grin then reshaping upon his lips as h e shook his head a little. Sometimes his friend's eccentricity was a bit overpowering. |
Haruhi listened, all the while wondering if her blonde mentor had any clue what it meant to practice restraint with his ideas. But it seemed to make him happy, so she supposed it wasn't too bad a thing.
Teagan listened intently, until something caught her off guard. "Wait... 'Daddy'?" She asked, looked a fair amount confused and just a little bit disturbed. "Your father is taking you all to Italy?" Seems she was totally lost on this situation. She was unaware of the family designations that Tamaki tended to hand out to the Host Club members. Haruhi and the others just stared at her blankly, then the twins busted out laughing. Her ears turned bright red and she looked down. "S-Sorry I asked a dumb question..." She said quietly. |
While Teagan couldn't be put to blame for her obliviousness, it was hard not to find humor in this situation. While he recognized that it was entirely odd that their club were composed of 'family members', and that was a funny though in itself, having to explain this to another was simply a bit much. Kyoya grinned amusedly for a moment while the twins practically cackled, but dismissing them he would let his head turn slightly in Teagan's direction. Smoothly, trying to regard the matter as casual, he would explain it to her. "It wasn't a dumb question, it is only natural of you to ask. You see, Tamaki has designated each of us as a family member," he began, then cut off as Tamaki went on.
"Mother, these awful boys are mocking me..." Tamaki whined about the Hitachiins, addressing Kyoya. This was Kyoya's cue to simply grin and continue, used to the twins and their antics by now, "So, no, Daddy would be Tamaki. By going to Italy he simply means we wil be hosting an Italian-themed event." |
