The Doctor guarded the TARDIS toward their next destination. He had picked another, but it seemed the TARDIS wanted to go someplace else." I think we should be landing soon, though I don't know where we will be landing." He said to to his companion James.
|
"What do you mean you don't know where we're going?" James asked, looking up from his I-pod. "How can you not know? You're the pilot!" Truth be told, James wasn't really feeling up to another dangerous situation. The last incident had drained him mentally and physically. Yet, fate must have judged him ready, for with a final lurch, the TARDIS was deposited on some unknown planet.
Hesitantly, he stood, making his way to the door before peeking out at the barren landscape. There was almost no light at all, which meant that he found himself grabbing a flashlight before stepping out all the way. The boulders strewn everywhere gave the place an eerie look, though there was one boulder that seemed oddly shaped and almost familiar. "Say, Doctor? What do you make of that?" he asked, walking up towards it cautiously. Upon touching it, the key around his neck lit up, and a door opened up on the side of the rock. The inside was whiter than snow, though a fine layer of dust covered everything, and though the panels looked a bit strange, James knew the object for what it was, especially considering that it was larger inside than out. "Doctor! It's a TARDIS!" he cried out, looking around in wonder before his eyes landed upon a small body hanging on the wall, the head and shoulders concealed by an MRI-looking machine, better known as a stasis chamber. "What do you make of that though? Is it dead?" |
" I don't think so. Just in stasis. " He said checking the machine. He was shocked to see another TARDIS even more shocking to see a person in stais. " From what the read out says, she's been on this world for about 20 years which is a long time to be in stasis. Also I know she is a Timelord but other than that I can't get much information. It looks like most of the power supply has been used to keep her alive. " The Doctor said as he figured out a way to free the girl , knowing that this TARDIS was quickly running out of power.
|
"Well, what if you gave her enough energy to regenerate? You know, like you've done before?" James asked, poking around the machine, figuratively of course. "Can you do a scan to see if she's unhealthy in any way? Isn't it possible that she might just be having trouble waking up?" As they searched, the lights on the control panel waxed and waned in intensity, showing that the power in the TARDIS was beginning to grow faint. Truly it was a sad sight. Though it looked more advanced than the Doctor's, it seemed that it wouldn't last nearly as long. James couldn't help but chuckle at the irony behind that thought.
|
" I could, but she would have to be awake to regenerate. From what I can tell she's in good health, but we need to get her back to my TARDIS to be able to wake her up and do a compleat scan. I'm going to reroute some power to the stasis chamber to transmat it to my TARDIS and then I can help her wake ." He said feeling concerned about the young girl, not sure if she would be able regenerate at the young age she was.
|
"Well, do it then," James replied, checking to see what they could salvage from the machine. There was a large amount of seemingly random stuff laying around. Still, he grabbed what he could and pushed it over to the stasis chamber. A lot of the objects were books, though they were written in a strange language. The shapes on some of them seemed to indicate that they were math books of a sort that James had never seen. "Are... these textbooks?"
While he waited for a reply, he kept pushing stuff over. A lot of tools were scattered around too, so he threw those into a box and slid it next to the pile of books. A few things that looked like toys he figured he could leave, though he did grab two of the stuffed animals: a strange bird-like creature and a regular old bear. He shook his head as he went about. Nothing he found indicated an age. On one hand, the toys made her seem like she looked: six or seven. On the other hand, the tools made ehr seem like an adult. It was all pretty confusing. |
The Doctor went to the console to transfer enough power to transport the young girl. " They are. What you have is basic Gallifreyan mathmatics. She must have been in the Academy when she was sent here. Though she looks young, shes probably close to 70. Which for a Timelord is still a critical developmental stage in learning. Though she would be able to function a TARDIS with assistance. Which explains the tools. " He said as he finished the sequence. " I'm ready to send her to the med bay. I do want to take a look around to see if I can find a name. " He said.
|
"Well, I'll head on over then. Go ahead and push the button or whatever you need to do to get it to transport her over," James replied, pulling his key from his pocket as he dashed to the blue police box. He could hear a faint electrical noise from outside, and saw that the whole chamber was materializing inside along the far wall. The boxes and such appeared mere seconds afterwards, clattering a bit noisily as they settled. The coral-esque support structures flashed by as he sprinted over to read the output on the monitors, sighing slightly when he saw that they were normal. After that though, he could really only sit down and wait for the Doctor. He had no idea how to proceed.
|
The Doctor pushed the button and headed back to the TARDIS. The computer files were too badly damaged to make out anything of importance. He opened the door and headed toward the sick bay." Couldn't access the computer, to find out who she is. James press the green button twice on the chamber and I'll begin the reawakening sequence. "He said." Sorry about not getting to our planned destination. Maybe once she is settled we can head to where you wanted to go."
|
"Well, we can't really leave her here. You two are the last Time Lords in the universe, right? Doesn't that make you like a surrogate father or something?" James said, obeying the Doctor's instruction and pressing the green button twice. A clattering noise sounded out as the lights in the machine activated, the girl's muscles tensing and relaxing rhythmically as her heart rate and such rose. It continued for several minutes before it just stopped dead, almost as if the machine had stopped working.
James just blinked at it for a few moments before turning to the Doctor. "What happened? Did it break or something?" he asked, turning back to see if he could get it going. As he was reaching over her, however, she suddenly sat up, her head slamming into his rib cage. Of course, it startled him, as shown by his record-shattering jump away from her. It would've earned him a gold medal at the Olympics. "Doctor. She's up." "Where am I?" the little girl asked, looking around in confusion with her innocent green eyes. She knew it to be a TARDIS based on the crystal pillar in the center, though it was a model she had never seen. "Who are you guys?" |
" We can take her with us, thought it might be a while. It does make me a surrogate father " He said, knowing it had been a very long time since he had been a father . " I'm the Doctor and this is James. You are safe here." He said, sensing some fear from the girl as he got closer." Could you tell me your name?" He asked in a kindly tone.
|
"Y-You're th-the D-Doctor?!" the small female asked incredulously, her eyes wide with shock. It was to be expected though, considering how famous he had been back on Gallifrey, though as a renegade. After she processed that information, she was on her feet, hand held up to her head in the salute that the children were taught to give to their elders. A small gold signet ring, several moon shapes like those on the Doctor's watch on a lavender backing, glinted on her finger as her hand moved up to her face for the salute before she spoke.
"I am Luna Sol of the Patrex Chapter House on Gallifrey, sir," she declared, seeming for all the world to stretch for every inch she could, her back as straight as a board. Her raggedy clothes almost seemed as if they were ready to fall off of her as well, and it made James feel a bit of pity for her. She had been out on the barren planet, asleep, for years. What on earth could that have felt like? It was certainly something that didn't sound pleasant. |
" It is nice to meet you Luna. " The Doctor said with a smile." How about we get you some clothes to wear and then maybe tell us how you ended up on this planet." He said in a kindly voice wanting her to feel more comfortable here.
|
"Y-Yes, sir!" Luna exclaimed, her eyes wide at his generosity. All of a sudden, a hand was wrapped around hers, and the other man, James, was leading her into the wardrobe while calling out to the Doctor that he would be back in a few minutes. He also told the Doctor to go ahead and start the TARDIS up and head off to their next destination. As they passed into the wardrobe however, Luna was quite amazed to see all the clothing hanging from the racks. It was kind of mind-blowing.
"I'm a 5t," she said, preempting his question. He nodded and continued along, mouthing to himself the sizes on the individual racks before they came across her size. He simply motioned for her to choose, so she began digging through them until she found a purple and pink leotard and tights. Then she hesitated. There were no pants that would go over them. Instead of mentioning it to James, however, she simply ducked across and grabbed a pair of black jeans with white butterflies as decoration, and a white t-shirt with a black butterfly. Of course, because they were a couple of sizes too big, they sort of dangled on her frame. Still though, she grabbed a pair of pink, purple, and black sneakers and slipped them over her socked feet before rejoining James, who simply raised an eyebrow at the large clothing she wore. She replied by shrugging, and that seemed to be the end of it, as he led her back out into the main room. "So, Doctor, where are we now?" he asked, sitting down in a chair. |
" We are at Velrand 4. It's a good place to gather our bearings and help Luna. You look very nice Luna. " He said when he saw her, even though the clothes were too big. " I want to be able to help you learn to be a Timelord, Luna. Can you tell me what you last learned ?" He wanted to be indirect about asking her about how she got on the planet. He knew how vulnerable young Timelords could be when remembering traumatic events.
|
"Thanks," Luna responded, blushing at the sudden compliment. "Well, it's sort of hazy, but we were learning about Time Rams and how to build screwdrivers for sure. The rest of it, I can't remember. Sorry." She sort of fidgeted around for a few minutes then before snapping her fingers and darting to the boxes that James had set to be transported over with the stasis chamber.
"I think, it should, that is my screwdriver, not completed of course, be in here somewhere," she blurted out, the words just pouring out of her mouth in rapid succession. After several minutes, she did find it, and presented the half-completed piece of technology proudly. All that was finished was the base, as that had been what they were taught to start on. |
" That's alright Luna. That looks very nice. I can continue to teach you to finish your screwdriver ,as well as other things you need to know." The Doctor said impressed with the workmanship.
|
"That'd be fantastic! Thanks!" Luna exclaimed, ecstatic over the thought of learning from a celebrity such as the Doctor. While the Doctor continued tinkering with things around the console, Luna pulled out what appeared to be a board game and pulled James over, though he was a bit reluctant. "Wanna play?" He nodded a bit hesitantly, and listened as she explained the rules, which were a bit mind blowing if he was honest. In fact, he didn't catch half of what she said.
Five minutes into the game, Luna rolled a forty-five. "Sepulchasm!" she shouted, squinting at her piece as the board game opened up. James just stared as his piece was swallowed up into the abyss. "Aww, you didn't even try!" He just looked at her like she was mental. "Doctor? Maybe you should come play this game? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing," he said, standing and walking over to the console. "Doctor, you said we were on Velrand IV," she asked suddenly, interrupting their conversation. "Why don't we just go to Gallifrey? Surely the war is over by now, right?" |
" It's easy once you get the hang of it. Usually the higher the score one gets determines who is the winner." The Doctor said to James. He sadly looked at Luna knowing it was hard to say what happened to Gallifrey." I wish it were that simple Luna. The Last Great Time war was a horrible war. Many hard decisions had to be made to ensure the universe was safe from the Daleks. Gallifrey had to be destroyed to prevent the Daleks from taking over . We are possibly the last two Timelords left." He said solemnly.
|
"No, that's a different game Doctor," Luna said, her voice taking on the sound of a whining child momentarily. "The winner is determined by how long you can keep your piece in the air with your mind. The loser is the one whose piece falls in first." Sighing dramatically, she packed up the game and put it away for the time being, intent on the Doctor's answer to her question about the war.
She listened closely, her body tense as her cheeks were marked with moist trails of saline. "Did we... did we at least beat them?" she asked, her voice strangled as it emerged from her vocal cords. She swallowed loudly before continuing. "Tell me that Gallifrey didn't burn in vain. Please." |
" Gallifrey didn't burn in vain. Every time I defeat the Daleks, I remind myself that we won to safe Creation." He said solemnly. He would continue to fight the Daleks for eternity, not stopping for a moment.
|
Fidgeting a bit at the awkwardness in the air, James spoke up, his cheeriness a bit forced. "We're on a planet and we're sitting around in here?" he asked, eyebrows raising as if to add emphasis to his question. "Let's go exploring! That's why we travel, right?" Luna smiled slightly and wiped her eyes. She nodded as she stood, waiting for the Doctor to make the first move. He was leader after all.
((It's your planet. :) Go ahead and describe it however you want.)) |
The Doctor opened the door to reveal Velrand IV. There was an orange sky with a single sun , and beach with pinkish sand. The trees had light blue leaves and what looked like to be ruins of a civilization. Velrand IV was inhabited, but most of the locals lived underground ." What do you both think?" He asked.
