"Yeah." Anna cleared her throat. "I guess the Apple is telling us we don't have time to work while we're saving the world." Because that was her closest guess to why she suddenly had so much money.

"Oddly, not comforting," Iris replied. "Not comforting at all." Because she didn't want to have to save the world, that was a very daunting and overwhelming task.

Anna chuckled humorlessly and went back to searching for information, her eyes narrowed. She was still Not Pleased. At all.

Iris searched for references to the Templar Treasure throughout history, and ended up with several hits in the US. It had taken her a little while to get used to the speed of modern technology again, but she hit her stride quickly enough and turned up a few leads on the Apple. It took a few weeks to get credible information, but once she did she quickly arranged for her and Anna to take a look.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 04:27 AM

By that point, Anna was itching to go out somewhere. She'd gotten used to a certain amount of training a day, and while she kept up with that it just wasn't the same.

Although modern buildings were harder to climb.

"So, where exactly are we looking again?" Anna looked over at Iris as the two moved through the oldest part of the city they were looking in.

Mageling 06-04-2012 04:32 AM

"Ironically, the local church," Iris replied, looking around. Modern buildings were ridiculously hard to climb, she agreed with Anna on that, although her climbing skills were a bit better than Anna's. "They claim to have something on display that matches the description of the Apple fairly well."

Woofie267 06-04-2012 04:42 AM

Anna snorted at that but didn't say anything more, just searching the buildings until she caught sight of the familiar style of church steeple.

"There." She walked towards the church, her eyes sweeping the area. No guards obvious, which was good. But she blended in a little more than Iris, since she'd stuck to mostly dark clothing, and she could pull her hood up and look like a local teen, so long as no one looked too closely at her.

Mageling 06-04-2012 04:47 AM

Iris nodded and walked that way, too, although she drifted far enough from Anna so as not to be associated with her at first glance. She was wearing a hoodie, rather than any of her formal Assassin clothes, but she did make sure her hidden blade was on her arm. Hopping the fence was a simple matter, but the locked door was a bit more difficult.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 04:51 AM

Anna went in the front way instead, hopping the fence and going to the same side door that Iris was at, although she made it look more casual, bumping Iris a little and slipping her the set of lockpicking tools that Anna had picked up their second day back.

Mageling 06-04-2012 04:58 AM

Iris had one of the tools in her hand a split second after Anna slipped the kit to her, and made short work of the lock on the door. She opened the door only just wide enough to slip inside.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 05:04 AM

Anna gave her a minute before following her in, shutting the door softly after her and looking around. So far so good. No guards in sight. Always a good start.

She started walking towards the back of the church, wondering where exactly a church would be displaying a freaky glowy Apple from a past civilization.

Mageling 06-04-2012 05:12 AM

Iris walked towards the back as well, but was forced to pause for a moment and brace herself on a bench when a sudden wave of nausea hit her. She was able to fight it off after a moment, and straightened up to keep looking around for any sort of place the Apple might be.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 05:15 AM

Anna glanced back at Iris, worried, but kept looking. The sooner they found the Apple the sooner they could leave.

It took her a minute to notice the little depression in the wall next to a statue of Mary, and she moved over slowly, pushing the segment of wall further in. The bit of wall with the statue flipped so the reverse side was inside, and the Apple sat on a little altar there, glowing faintly.

Mageling 06-04-2012 05:25 AM

Iris saw the faint glow and hurried over.

"You found it," she breathed to Anna.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 05:27 AM

Anna nodded. "You pick it up," she said quietly. "I don't know if it'll work for me." Because that was a problem she hadn't tested yet, and wasn't eager to test now. Later, perhaps, once they got out with the Apple. But not right then.

Mageling 06-04-2012 05:34 AM

Iris nodded and reached out to pick up the Apple. It still felt unsettlingly warm and pliant under her fingers, although it still had the general texture of metal, and the glow brightened when her fingers touched it.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 05:37 AM

Anna watched expectantly, looking around. But nothing happened. She frowned.

"It didn't work." She spoke quietly, but like she'd just realized her genius plan wasn't going to work and she had no idea what to do now.

Mageling 06-04-2012 05:46 AM

Iris's shoulders fell. She'd been expecting it to work, too.

"Well," she said, trying to force a bit of optimism, "we have the Apple. Maybe we can take it home and figure out how to make it work."

Woofie267 06-04-2012 05:49 AM

"Yeah. Maybe." Anna looked around before pressing the panel again so the statue was facing forward. No one would know it was missing for a little while. "Come on. Let's get home again."

She left the church and was already half-way back to their house before she looked over at Iris. "So what happened earlier? You okay?"

Mageling 06-04-2012 05:56 AM

"I... don't know," Iris admitted. "I mean, I'm fine now, but I've been getting nauseous lately, just kind of randomly. A lot of times when I first wake up." She bit her lip slightly. "Been a bit more tired the last few days, but I figured it was from researching late."

Woofie267 06-04-2012 06:19 AM

Anna paused as a thought occured to her. The girls had been synced in their moon cycles for a while now, and she was sure their time in the 15th century hadn't changed that. She'd had her moon cycle a week ago, but she wasn't sure about Iris.

"Hey, last week, did you...?" She trailed off, unsure how to phrase it delicately.

Mageling 06-04-2012 06:24 AM

Iris looked at her, and comprehension dawned on her. Frantically, she did a mental calculation, trying to figure out when her last cycle had been.

"No," she replied, barely more than a whisper. "No, not since before we took our Leap." She looked at Anna, her eyes wide.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 06:27 AM

"Okay. Could be a false alarm. I mean we've each skipped a month before. It might not be a big deal. Let's not panic just yet." Anna looked at Iris, trying to keep calm.

But maybe she should stop at the drugstore on the way home anyway.

Mageling 06-04-2012 06:32 AM

Iris bit her lip and nodded, latching on to that thin hope. Yes, they'd both skipped once or twice before, but she was usually very regular otherwise.

"Might be from stress," she said, regardless.

Woofie267 06-04-2012 06:34 AM

"Stress'll do that. God, remember college? I was so irregular." Anna managed to grin at her. Yes, it was a small hope, but they could hope.

"You go ahead home first. I'm going to pick up some food for us. I don't really feel like cooking tonight." Plus it would give her an excuse to go into the drug store and get a few other things.
