"This will tell us where to go," Iris pointed out, setting her phone to sleep mode once she found what she was looking for, and then putting it into her pocket. "Then we can look around at all the pretty."

Ezio just listened to the exchange, not comprehending most of it. He still had no idea what a 'smartphone' did, and he stayed as far away from the magical-seeming 'technology' as possible.

Anna snickered and shook her head, motioning for Iris to lead the way. Technology was wonderful, she had to admit. She had missed it when they'd been stuck back in the Renaissance.

Although the Renaissance had been pretty cool too.

Iris had a good idea of where to go, now that she'd looked up directions on her phone and was more than happy to lead the way. Besides, it meant that she didn't have to watch Ezio and Anna making eyes at each other.

That wasn't quite the case, but Ezio was walking fairly close to Anna, even though he tried to keep an eye on them both. He was sure Altair would skin him or worse if anything happened to Iris.

Anna didn't make eyes at Ezio, and she didn't reach out and hold his hand like she half-wanted to. She knew better than to restrict one of his hands like that, especially out in public. But she also kept part of her attention on their surroundings.

At least until she got to the restaurant, and then she smiled and moved up next to Iris to get them a table.

Ezio ended up stepping forward when Iris stumbled over asking for a table in Italian. He figured out what she was trying to say, and broke in smoothly to ask properly. The host at the counter seemed surprised to be talked to in Italian, but took it in stride and seated the three of them.

"I guess I kind of mangled that," Iris said as they sat down.

"A bit," Ezio agreed, although he grinned a bit to let her know he was teasing. He sat down next to Anna and moved a bit closer to her.

Anna snickered. "I thought I heard the word "horse" in there somewhere," she teased. But it was all in good fun, and she knew Iris would know that. After all, they'd been teasing each other for years.

"Shut up," Iris replied. "Modern romance languages are ridiculous, and Italian is the worst of the bunch. French is easier than this. I nearly failed Latin in college, remember?" She grinned a bit. "God I hated that class, but I failed Spanish before that, and I was sick of French."

Ezio just raised an eyebrow.

"Languages aren't hard," he said.

"Speak for yourself," Iris retorted. "Your native language is Latin-based, French and Spanish are easy from there. English is a Germanic bastardization of a dozen languages."

"Which is why it's one of the hardest languages to learn," Anna piped up. "Not to mention there are about a dozen different dialects of English. Learning anything Latin-based from English is a bitch."

Ezio just looked between them as if they were speaking craziness, and then shook his head and left it alone. It was best not to argue about some things.

Anna saw the look and snickered, leaning back in her chair and just watching everything as the waiter came over to see if they were ready to order yet.

Ezio talked with the waiter for a moment before looking at the girls.

"Wine?" he asked. Iris held up a hand and shook her head.

"Not for me," she said. "Water is fine."

Anna debated for a moment. Wine here was definitely not as strong as the wine Ezio was used to, but even so, she didn't want to cloud her senses.

"Just one glass for me." She grinned briefly at him.

Ezio nodded and ordered the same. One glass of wine was alright, any more than that was a bad idea for now. Once he'd done that, he glanced briefly at the menu to see what was being offered as food.

Anna didn't have any problem figuring out what she wanted and sipped her water while she waited, idly scanning the restaurant. She didn't think anything would happen while they were out in public like this, but she'd been wrong before.

Iris had a good idea of what she wanted, as well, although she sipped her water a little more cautiously than Anna did. She didn't think anything would happen, either, although she knew better than to assume anything. Still, though, she doubted anything would happen in the middle of a crowded restaurant. It was a little too public for any sort of incident.

Dinner passed without a hitch, for which Anna was thankful. She stretched as she got up after paying the bill, looking at the other two.

"Well, what now? Any preferences?"

Iris shook her head. She had no other real preferences of what they did for the evening.

"It's too soon to check on our inept watchers," Ezio mused. "We should let the good gentleman from earlier stew in his thoughts for a while longer before we check on him again. So I have no real preference at the moment. Although perhaps we should see if we can find Altair and see what he managed to learn."

Anna snorted. "One does not simply find Altair," she said dryly, knowing Iris at least would get the joke. Poor Ezio, so out of the loop sometimes. She led the way out of the restaurant.

"Of course not," Altair said from the roof above and behind her. "You would not find me if I did not wish to be found." He smirked and dropped down behind her before moving over to Iris.

Iris snorted at the joke, biting her lip a little to keep from snickering. Ezio looked terribly confused, but didn't jump when Altair appeared behind them all.

"That was a terrible joke, Anna," she said to her friend as she moved a bit closer to Altair.

Anna just grinned cheekily. "Oh, I know. I specialize in those." She glanced back at Altair. "So, find anything interesting?"

Altair shrugged fluidly. "Many of the Assassins in this city are untested, raised into this but unaware of what this life really is. They were easy to follow and distract, and they are not yet experienced trackers."

"In other words: typical for the time," Iris mused. As much as she didn't want to admit it, people from the modern time were used to having everything handed to them; at least, compared to other eras. "I wouldn't count out the tracking just yet, though, they probably adapted traffic cameras or something to keep an eye on everything for them." That's what she would do, at least.

Irrationally, Ezio felt a bit embarrassed for the Assassins Altair followed. He may not have trained them himself, but they were what had become of his own Assassins in Italy. He almost felt a little responsible for them.

"Regardless, they most likely know where we are," he said, "and will likely contact us somehow once their Mentor has has enough time to consider the situation."

Anna nodded. That all made sense to her. If this was her area she'd have taken any technology she could get and adapted it to her needs. It made more sense for this era, rather than running around on rooftops after people.

"Sounds about right. So for the meantime, I guess we should just sit back and wait. Going after them again so soon won't do anything, and they'll find us when they're ready." She shrugged.

Altair snorted, although he agreed with her. He just liked making fun of her, because she was far too easy to rile up.

Iris nodded.

"Which means this just got turned into a bit of a sight-seeing trip for the moment," she said. "It's just a waiting game for now, so we may as well make the most of it." She grinned a bit. "And I bet they'll underestimate us if they think we're more interested in being tourists."

"Probably. It's a fair assumption." Anna grinned and started walking. "Well, shall we see what's become of Venice, then?" Because really, the last time she and Iris had been here in modern times they hadn't gotten to do or see very much.

Iris grinned and nodded.

"Sounds like a plan to me," she said. Ezio nodded as well. He wanted to see how much Venice had changed in the last few centuries.
