Ezio glanced at Anna, and then looked back at Altair and nodded.
"Impressive, isn't it?" he asked. |
"It is something," Altair replied, keeping his voice carefully neutral. He personally preferred Iris's, but he had to admit, Anna's fit her: big, ostentatious, and yet able to be hidden very easily.
|
Ezio could see the gears turning in Altair's head. Figuratively.
"What are you comparing it to?" he asked carefully. |
"Her," he said, his voice dry. "It is appropriate for her: vibrant and ostentatious." He'd leave off the other bit for now. Ezio might fill in the blank for him so he didn't actually have to say anything good about Anna himself.
|
"I see," Ezio replied, trying and failing to suppress a smirk. "And also surprisingly lovely?" He grinned teasingly at the other Assassin.
|
Altair scoffed. "Hardly. Besides, I'm fairly sure you wouldn't be pleased if I did think so." He smirked right back at Ezio.
|
"No more than you if I said the same about Iris," Ezio replied, raising an eyebrow briefly. They both knew what remained unspoken. He glanced down the hall when he heard the water stop. "And I believe she's finished in the shower."
|
"It would seem so." Altair nodded to Ezio and headed back to Iris's room to see how she was doing so far. And to see how hungry she was so he'd be forewarned.
|
Ezio returned the gesture and retreated back into Anna's room.
"Iris is out of the shower," he said to her. Iris was digging through her dresser, still in her bathrobe, when Altair came in. She was grateful the bathrobe was oversized to begin with, because it barely closed anymore over her belly. She glanced over when he came in. |
"Alright." Anna glanced back at him with a little grin. "So, you think my tattoo is vibrant and ostentatious?" She pouted at him, though she was clearly amused.
"They're awake," Altair said quietly, grabbing one of his shirts to pull on. "And will be downstairs for breakfast." |
"I think your tattoo is surprisingly lovely," Ezio corrected, going over to put his arms around her waist from behind.
"I'm not surprised," Iris replied as she found some clothes to wear that might still fit her. "Isn't Ezio typically up early?" |
Anna smiled. "Fortunately for you, I know you're not lying. You certainly spend enough time studying it."
"Usually." Altair moved over to the bed, absently checking his little weapon stash. He didn't feel the need to carry many around the house, but he always had them close at hand, just in case. |
"Not that you disapprove of my studies," Ezio teased her, kissing her cheek.
Iris nodded a bit, and got dressed. She had to tug her shirt down a couple of times, but it couldn't be helped. Most of her shirts didn't fit at all, and the maternity shirts she'd bought were getting snug, as well. |
"Never said I did," Anna said, smirking and leaning back against him. "But I can't walk around like this all the time."
Altair watched her, but he knew better than to make a comment. When it came to clothing recently, there was simply no placating her anymore. "Breakfast," he prompted instead once she was dressed. |
Ezio just raised an eyebrow teasingly at her, and gently kissed the junction of her shoulder and neck. Then he released her.
Iris tugged on her shirt one more time, and then nodded. "Breakfast," she agreed. |
Anna chuckled and pulled on a shirt, at least, so Altair wouldn't keep complaining.
"We should go see about food." Altair nodded and took her hand, heading downstairs with her. Mostly he let her decide what sounded good for breakfast. |
Ezio nodded, and gestured for her to go first with a grin.
Iris squeezed his hand briefly before going downstairs with him. Rather than rummaging around in the fridge and pantry, though, she settled herself into a chair. She could hear Ezio and Anna upstairs, and there was no sense in not waiting for them. |
Anna headed down the stairs first, stretching briefly as she walked (and fully aware that Ezio was watching her) before she joined the other two in the kitchen.
"So, what are we doing this morning, Brain?" |
"The same thing we do every morning, Pinky," Iris replied with a grin. She stretched a bit in her seat and rested a hand on her belly as Anna and Ezio walked in.
Ezio gave the two a strange look, but let it go. It was just one of those things he assumed he would never understand. |
Anna snickered and shook her head, plopping down across from Iris. "Well, now the question is: Do I feel like cooking or do I feel like pre-made food?" She looked at Iris for input.
|
Iris shrugged a bit, rubbing her belly when the baby rolled over.
"I was going to see if I could talk anyone into bacon and eggs for breakfast," she said. |
"Bacon and eggs it is." Anna got up again and rummaged through the fridge, pulling out the necessary ingredients before she shooed Altair away from the stove and started cooking.
|
Iris grinned and settled in to watch Anna cook. This was normal between them, even before everything.
Rather than sitting down, Ezio leaned against the counter to watch Anna work. |
Anna didn't mind the audience, just cooking enough for everyone and putting bread in to toast while things sat. Hey, if she was making breakfast, she was making a nice breakfast.
Altair also opted to stand, although he moved behind Iris's chair, resting his hands on her shoulders. |
Iris leaned back a little, perfectly relaxed with him behind her. She left one hand resting on her belly, and smiled slightly when when the baby squirmed a bit again and pushed against her hand. She smiled more when she moved her hand and saw the silhouette of a little foot on her belly. She nudged Altair a bit.
