He sighed. "I just wish I'd been a better brother to him."
"You were a nice brother to him"
"I could've been better." He argued.
"No you couldn't have"
He sighed. "But..I put him through so much."
"But he loved you, mon cher..." He put a hand on Arthur's shoulder. "So much"
Arthur sighed. "I know he did. Poor child.."
"he's in a better place, yanno?"
Arthur went slightly glassy eyes. "Better place.." He thought about that's what he had always said to Alfred when someone in their family died.
"Did... Did I say something wrong...? I'm sorry..." he frowned. "I didn't mean to offend you..."
Arthur shook his head. "Oh, no. I was just thinking. Sorry about that."
"It's fine... How about I make you a nice meal?"
Arthur paused. It had been a while since he'd eaten Francis' cooking, and as much as he longed to taste it, he didn't want a guest working in his house. "Naw, I have servants for that of you're hungry. Why don't you just sit and relax with me?"
"Well, it would've been my pleasure to cook for you again.. Maybe another night?" He sat down with Arthur.
"Sure, another night. For now I just want you to relax." He smile happily at Francis. "what do you want to eat? I'll have my maids cook up something."
"I'm up for anything..." Francis couldn't even imagine having a maid cook for him. "Really, just, whatever is good..."
England had the maid bring them a few of the finest French delicacies. "The best for my love."
France smiled softly. "Well, thank you then..."
Arthur took a snail and ate it, not very fond of it at all. This was one of those things that felt like it shouldn't be food at all. He didn't show it though. He just ate it like he'd eat anything else
Francis ate slowly, wishing he had just been able to cook for them instead.
Arthur stopped eating after a very small portion of food. He just wasn't feeling it. "Are you enjoying it Francis?" A slightly childish, hopeful look crossed his face
Francis smiled. "Of course I am, mon cher.."
Arthur smiled the first real smile of happiness in years. "That makes me really happy." The smile almost hurt his face it was so wide.
"You're smiling..." Francis too smiled. "I love your smile"
Arthur felt a blush creep to his cheeks, a blush that hadn't been there since highschool. "Thank you Francis. You're smile is rather charming as well."
