Ianto sigheed and sat back down. Well, this sucked. This just wasn't fair. Jack had no right to lock him in here.he was not going to stand for this. At least, in the morning. No point in waking Jack up. He could just yell at him in the morning. Instead, he just went back to working.

Ianto had stopped moving above but Jack was pretty sure he hadn't gone to bed. He was probably still working on that stack of papers. Well from the looks of it before he left he'd be finished those soon but the others were stored outside the office so he'd have nothing to do after that. It was probably cruel but he didn't have a choice. Either Ianto started looking after himself or Jack would continue to treat him like a child that needed to be locked in his room.

It took Ianto oveer an hour to finish the paperwork. Which left him bored with nothing to do. He wasn't tired, so he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep. So, instead, he just started organizing and cleaning Jack's office the best he could. That took some time to finish.

Jack lay awake for a while listening to Ianto moving about the office. He sighed to himself before throwing back the covers and standing. He hadn't bothered undressing and his coat was still in his office so he just pulled on his boots and made his way back up to his office.
"You know," he said mildly behind the Welshman. "At night it is customary to sleep you know."

Ianto jumped when he heard Jack speak behind him. He had thought the captain was still asleep. He turned and looked back at him. "I'm not tired. Slept to much today already. Besides. There is still work to be done." He told him.

"Work that can be done tomorrow," Jack pointed out. "And if you do it all tonight then what'll you do tomorrow? You've got to balance it out Ianto otherwise you're going to drive yourself insane within a week. I've been there and it's not a good place to be."

He came forward and placed a reassuring hand on Ianto's shoulder, a friendly gesture but not too intimate. "Come on," he murmured. "Just try and get a few hours sleep so you can function properly tomorrow."

Ianto didn't care if he got it all done tonight. He would find something to do tomorrow. It wouldn't drive him insane. He just needed a distraction.

He stiffined slightly when Jack put a hand on his shoulder. But he made himself relax. "It doesn't matter if I try. Won't be able to sleep if I'm not tired."

"Ianto," Jack said in a warning tone. "You've barely slept for the last few days. You've got most of the team worried about you, you've got bags the size of Owen's ego under your eyes and you've barely eaten anything." He was trying not to push teh Welshman but he was worried about him and if he didn't do something then the other was going to get seriously ill. "What helps you sleep at night?" he asked suddenly, deciding to take another route.

Ianto was silent as Jack was speaking. He was fine, he knew he was. But the captain didn't seem to understand that. "I've never needed help sleeping at night. If I'm tired, I go to sleep. Simple as that. Right now, I'm not tired, so I won't be able to sleep." He told him.

"But there must be something taht you to if you're restless," Jack prompted gently. "Or something taht you do before sleep if you're restless. Everyone has something." Damn it if Ianto didn't stop being such a pain in the ass he'd just drag the other down to the bunker and keep him there.

"If I can't sleep, I work." Ianto stated. That really was the only thing that helped. He normally cleaned his flat when he couldn't sleep. And since he wasn't there, he was stuck here doing nothing. Which left him extremely bored. He just wanted Jack to leave him alone.

Jack sighed before deciding that there was nothing else for it. He looked the Welshman up and down before deciding that he could manage. Before the other had a chance to move Jack scooped him up into his arms and quickly manouvered them both down into his little bunker. He let go of Ianto, letting the other fall the rest of the way to the bed before jumping down himself and shutting the entrance behind him. He glared down at the Welshman.
"You are going to rest if I have to tie you to my bed," he stated firmly. "And as much as I wouldn't mind doing that I'd rather you rest by yourself. I'm not letting you out of here until you've had a few hours sleep and that's an order." His tone had grown cold as he spoke, no longer joking. He was talking as Ianto's superior officer now and not as a friend. Well...were they really friends? It seemed more like acasual aquaintances really but Jack ignored tat for the moment. Well he ignored that and the fact that he wished they were a lot closer.

Ianto really wasn't expecting for Jack to suddenly force him into the captain's bunker. He sat on the bed and glared at Jack. How dare he assult him like that! He wasn't there to be pushed around and he wasn't going to stand for it.

"Forcing me to be down here isn't going to make me sleep." He told him, his voice cold. "You cannot force me to sleep. Especially when I am NOT tired. I don't understand how you can't seem to comprehend that fact."

"I don't need to maek you sleep," Jack replied cooly. "All I need to do is make sure you can't move so that, even if your head isn't staying still your body is. It can't cope with this Ianto and I'm not going to let you colapse again." He pulled off his boots once more but decided to remain fully clothed just in case Ianto got the wrong impression...well the right impression but at the completely wrong time.

"Just lie down," he said softly, his eyes softening as he looked at Ianto emploringly. He swallowed before forcing himself to continue. "I'm worried about you alright?"

"You don't need to worry about me. I can take care of myself." Ianto told him. Though did lay back on the bed. But he wasn't going to go to sleep. Nope, not at all. His mind was way to wound up to shut down enough to sleep. Instead, he chose to continue to glare slightly at Jack.

"Not from what the team and I've observed over the last ew days," Jack chided gently before slipping onto the bed. He pulled the covers over them both but did not make a move to touch Ianto like he wanted. Instead he jsut faced the other and met the other's glaring eyes. "Is it relaly so surprising that we want you to be healthy? That we're all worried about you? You're a part of the team Ianto and, alright, we haven't exactly acted like it but you do matter, to all of us."

Ianto stiffened when Jack laid down next to him. But, he didn't try to move away. "I understand that, sir. But I just need some time to myself so that I can grieve Lisa's death. After that, I should be fine." He told him.

"I've lost too many people to count," Jack confessed quietly. "And I thought that taking some time out, being by myself for a while, would help but it didn't. It only made things worse. All I could think about was waht I could have done differently, what could have been if they'd lived and Ianto, it doesn't work. It hurts so much that you're not sure if it's mental or physical. It tears you appart and the worst part is there's no one that understands what you're going through, or at least that's how you feel but we've all lost someone here at some point. Well not Gwen but she will and when she does we'll try and be there for her too. I've lost people, Owen lost Katie...we don't want to lose you over this Ianto." He was talking to the Welshman more than he'd ever talked to him before. It felt strange but good at teh same time. He wanted to get closer to Ianto and to do taht he had to open up a little himself. Maybe taht would help to take Ianto's mind off of Lisa for a bit.

Ianto was silent as Jack spoke. He had known Owen had lost Katie. But, he couldn't think of anybody Jack had lost. Why should he be able to. The captain avoided talking about himself at all costs. Makes it hard to believe anything he says when he does talk about himself. "Just because that was how it was for you doesn't mean the same will be true for me."

"Fair point," Jack conceded. "We all deal with grief in different ways but I can tell you this now Ianto. Bottling things up never works. It eats away at your insides until it's all that's left and there's no joy in anything anymore. Anything you used to love shrivels and seems worthless." Had it been anyone else Jack would have eached out and put a hand on their shoulder or arm in comfort but he resisted, feeling that Ianto wouldn't appreciate teh contact. He was treading so carefully around the Welshman, like if he made even one false step the other would either break or blow up in his face. He'd prefer to avoid both if at all possible. He was not good at dealing with emotional people, well not negative emotions. Positive were a different matter altogether but this was definitely not a pleasant situation and nor were the emotions flying around.

"I will grieve in my own way. It doesn't matter what you say. You can't change the way I have always dealt with my grief." Ianto told him. He rolled so that he wasn't facing Jack. He was done talking to him. He just wished the captain would leave him alone. He didn't know how much clearer about that. If Jack wasn't so dense, he would understand that. But he apparently couldn't.

Jack sighed before settling down. he contined to stare at Ianto's back for a while before he finally closed his eyes and allowed himself to fall asleep. Ianto couldn't get out of the bunker withot him anyway and he wasn't worried about the other killing him in his sleep. Even if he did he'd just come back anyway so there was nothng for it but to get some sleep and deal with the annoyed Welshman in the morning.

As Ianto lay there, his mind went back to Lisa. Just thinking about her hurt, but he couldn't focus on anything else. He still had a hard time believing she was really gone. Tears came to his eyes, but he refused to let them fall. A few managed to slip through, but he just wiped them away. He stayed like that for the rest of the night, falling asleep a few hours later.

Jack woke up a few hours earlier. Ianto was thainkfully asleep but he didn't move. He allowed himself to relax slightly. He didn't know how long it had taken Ianto to fall asleep but at least he had and that was good enough for Jack. He'd keep an eye on him though until he woke up. He wasn't sure if Ianto's dreams would be full fo knightmares or not but he would be there for the other if they were.

Ianto woke with a start, about an hour after Jack. But he didn't notice the captain. At first, he was confused about where he was. But then he remembered and sat up. His eyes then landed on Jack. "What time is it?" He asked, rubbing his eyes and trying to forget his dream.
