Kali did the same, double-checking the back door and windows and making sure the curtains and shutters were closed.
Christine moved into the kitchen to wait, her eyes narrowed a bit.
Sure enough, only a few minutes later someone knocked on their door politely and then waited. "Are we sure this is the right address?" a soft male voice asked quietly. "Of course, Angel," the second one said. "She'sss around." His voice hissed just a little. |
Quietly, Kali crept over to the door to peer out through the peephole. She could see two men standing outside, looking about as different from one another as night and day. She glanced at Christine questioningly.
Christine shrugged helplessly. She had no idea what to do.
Crowley gave them a minute, and then he pounded on the door. "Come on, open up," he grumbled. "We know you're in there." "We just want to talk," Aziraphale added helpfully. |
Kali jumped and squeaked a bit when the door got pounded on suddenly, and she covered her mouth with a hand, hoping they hadn't heard her.
"Look, open the door, we'll talk, we'll leave you alone, Nephilim," Crowley said.
"Christine," Azi added helpfully. "Whatever." Christine wavered for a few moments before she nodded to Kali, moving over into the main room. |
Kali nodded and opened the door.
"Can I help you?" she asked. |
"No, but she can." Crowley nodded to Christine, sunglasses firmly in place.
"Crowley, dear, be polite," Azi said, frowning at him. "I'm sorry, but could we please speak to Christine?" Christine moved over, eyeing them both cautiously. "What is it you wanted to talk to me about?" |
Kali moved aside, reluctantly letting them in. Bahiti simmered just below the surface, ready to emerge to protect her sisters if she needed to.
"Well, actually, we're here to check up on you," Azi said with a bit of a shrug. "One of the, er, Higher Ups found out there's been a spot of demonic interference in the area, and I'm supposed to make sure you're fine and see if I can't clear it up."
"I'm not," Crowley said with a smirk. "Okay," Christine said slowly. "Well, I'm fine, and we're working on finding the thing, and we've already got some help, so thanks but no thanks." |
Kali just watched the exchange, silently conferring with her sisters.
Well that clears some things up, Bahiti grumbled. And creates just as many new questions, Tamara pointed out. Though it's good to know a few things for sure, now. |
Christine glanced back at Kali. "Any objections?" she asked lightly, ignoring the angel and the demon on their doorstep for the moment.
"There are just as many questions as before," Kali said, summing up her sisters' words.
"Right. Well, thanks again for the offer, but we don't need help at the moment, try back later." Christine shut the door before either of them could say anything else or try to get inside.
Kali watched Christine as she went to sit down again.
"You alright?" she asked softly. |
"Freaked out," Christine said. "They came here, they knew my name, they called me nephil again. This is just..." She shrugged helplessly. "I mean, why would any of them care about my safety during this? Shouldn't they be focusing on getting rid of the demon rather than checking on me?"
"I don't know," Kali said, sitting down next to Christine. "Maybe they're both part of the same thing. Checking on you and checking on the demon situation."
"Maybe," Christine allowed. "But I still don't get it." She rubbed her temples.
"Neither do we," Kali said, putting an arm around her friend. "Come on, let's see about getting some sleep. Maybe things will make more sense in the morning."
Christine nodded after a few moments, getting up and heading up to her room to sleep. She doubted she'd be able to, but even just lying there in the dark sounded nice.
"Don't hesitate to come to us if you need anything," Kali said as Christine got up. She knew Christine was as independent as they come, but still sometimes liked cuddling with someone.
"Don't worry, I'll let you know." Christine shot her a smile before she headed up to her room, mostly shutting the door and settling in to sleep.
With that, Kali went upstairs into 'her' room to settle in. It was her turn to use the bed, anyways.
Christine got up earlier than normal the next morning and hit the books, although she was looking for something different this time. This time, she was trying to gather as much information as possible about a single name: Gabriel.
Kali made her way downstairs a little while later, wearing a lace-trimmed tank and a pair of shorts that both clearly looked slept-in.
"Morning," she said as she made her way into the kitchen. She smiled when she saw there was coffee, but went to make herself some tea; her sisters liked coffee, but she didn't care for it. |
