It only took Harry half an hour or so to go back to the girls' house, knocking on the door. Mouse was next to him, leaning against Harry's side.
Curious, Kali opened the door.
"Harry?" she asked, blinking. "Is something wrong?" |
"Only a little." Harry smiled wryly. "The hotel's been burned down. I don't know who did it, but there's almost nothing left of it."
Kali blinked.
"The hotel's burned down?" she repeated. She started a bit when she realized he was still standing on the step, and she moved aside. "Come on in, make yourself comfortable." |
Harry smiled sheepishly and nudged Mouse inside first, following the dog in moments later.
"Thanks," he said quietly. "I thought I'd let you know before I went to find a place." |
"You think it's a good idea to try to find another hotel?" Kali asked as she sat on the couch. "I mean, I don't know, to me it seems like a sign. Shit's going down in the city, your hotel burns down, and you want to find another one?" The slight profanity coming out of her mouth seemed out of place; Kali was typically the sweeter of the three sisters and didn't usually swear much.
Harry shrugged. "Well, I don't exactly live here," he pointed out. And he was not about to go bunk with the brothers. Mouse, sensing a sympathetic person, went and laid his head on Kali's lap.
And that was pretty much that. Kali practically melted, cooing over Mouse and lavishing attention on him. After a moment, she reluctantly got up.
"Give me just a second," she said. With that, she went into the kitchen to see what Christine was doing. |
Christine blinked and looked over at Kali. "What's up? I heard the door." She set the baking sheet of cookies on the counter.
"Harry's here," Kali said. "Apparently, his hotel burned down." She paused to let that statement sink in. "Think we can put him up on the couch or something for the night?"
Christine looked at Kali for several moments before she grinned. "He brought Mouse with him, didn't he?" She shook her head. "Sure, we've got the guest room he can use for a few nights, until he's ready to leave. I don't mind."
Kali flushed just a little.
"Yeah, he's got Mouse with him," she replied. Hey, she couldn't help it. Grinning, she went back into the living room. "Christine says you can have the guest room, if you want it," she said to Harry. |
Harry paused, uncertain. "Are you sure?" he asked. "I can find somewhere else to stay." Staying with the girls would be more convenient, though.
"Christine okayed it," Kali said. "Tamara and Bahiti haven't voiced any protests, although Bahiti is dozing, I think."
Harry nodded after a moment. "Alright. I'll stay here, then. Thank you." he smiled a bit, and Mouse wagged his tail as he walked over to Kali again.
"No problem," Kali said, grinning a bit. She scratched behind Mouse's ears. "The guest room is upstairs, second room on the left."
"Thanks." Harry grinned briefly. "I think I'll go check it out. Keep Mouse company for me." Mouse just wagged more as he sat next to Kali.
Kali grinned and went back to lavishing attention on the massive dog. She really did have a soft spot for furry animals.
Christine went to go gather up Harry for dinner, glancing at Azi and Crowley again since they were still hanging around before she focused on Kali again.
"Think we should let the brothers know?" she asked. "In case someone goes after them?" |
"Probably," Kali said, nodding. "At least so they know to expect it, even if nothing ends up happening."
Christine nodded. "After dinner," she said, herding everyone into the other room. "Sit and eat."
Kali nodded and went over to sit at the table. Like usual, the three sisters cycled through the body, each taking turns eating dinner. They all knew it was likely a bit strange for any onlookers, but it was normal for them.
Crowley eyed her a bit, but she wasn't the first Tryad he'd met, so he wasn't totally discomfited. He was, however, surprised at the food. He'd been fully prepared to complain about it, but he actually liked Christine's food.
Christine was quiet until after dinner, and then she got up. "Would you mind gathering up plates and putting them in the sink for me? I'll wash everything when I get back." |
"We can take care of them," Tamara said. She was the sister in view at the moment, so she didn't mind answering. "Go on, we can handle the dishes."
Christine nodded after a moment, pinning Crowley with a look. "Don't cause any trouble."
Crowley just smirked at her and watched her go before he slouched over to go sprawl in a chair. Christine grumbled as she made her way down the street to knock on the brothers' door. |
