"You know, old gods. Like Mars, I know he's had a hand in a few things recently, or Loki." If Bob could have shrugged, he would have. "Most of them are still around, just not as powerful as they used to be."
"That's..." Tamara's voice trailed off, and Kali's voice piped up, although Kali didn't surface. "...Frightening."
"Yeah. World's a scary place, kids."
Harry shook his head. "Bob, I need a list of gods that could do this," he said. "You got it, boss." |
Tamara swallowed, taking their vocal cords back from her sister before speaking again.
"I'd like a copy of that list," she said, in her own voice this time. "Christine might be able to do something with it." |
"Christine?" Harry asked, blinking. He already planned on making a copy for her anyway, although he'd have to make sure she got it.
"Our housemate," Tamara replied. "She's in on everything, too, and the 'demons' theory was hers."
"Interesting. She knows things too then I assume." Harry blinked. "Well, it's a good idea. We'll run with it and see what we find."
Tamara nodded.
"Bahiti has a couple of contacts we talked to earlier," she said. "They don't know any more than we do." She didn't say how they knew the contacts, though. Best to keep that to herself for the moment. |
Harry nodded. "Well, we should all keep in contact, in case someone figures something out." It made sense, after all. More people researching had a higher chance of finding something, and then everyone needed to know so as not to get killed.
"Next time we go for show-and-tell, we'll let them know that you want to talk to them," Tamara said.
Harry's lips quirked at her wording, but he nodded. "How can I reach you if I have to?"
"You mentioned something about not having a phone?" Tamara asked. She glanced around until she found a pad of paper and a pen. Quickly, she wrote down their address. "Here. More than likely, either me or one of my sisters will answer the door."
Harry nodded. "Cell phones tend to die around me," he said with a shrug. Side-effect of magic, after all. Most days it was just an annoyance, rather than something that actively pissed him off.
"Little hard on your hardware?" Tamara asked, raising an eyebrow. Kali snickered in the back of their head.
"That's one way of putting it," Harry said with a brief grin. "Magic doesn't play nicely with technology."
"Interesting," Tamara said. "I may ask for more details about that later, but we should be getting home. Christine will worry otherwise."
Harry nodded. "Alright. Let me know if anything comes up, and I'll do the same."
"Deal," Tamara said, nodding. "We'll likely be back soon, then."
Harry nodded and saw her out before he went to go grill Bob and see how much information he could get.
As soon as she was out the door, Tamara moved aside for Bahiti again, and Bahiti continued on back home. She didn't want to be out any longer than she had to be right now, and she wanted to get the information back to Christine.
Christine was still busy researching, though she looked over when Bahiti returned.
"Hey. How'd it go?" |
"The wizard knows about us," Bahiti said as she toed her shoes off. "About my sisters and I. The blonde with the sword suspects, I think. Everyone agrees that demons are the most likely cause for the sickness."
Christine nodded. "Well, that's interesting," she murmured. "You're okay with the wizard knowing?" Because the three hadn't even been comfortable with Christine knowing for a little while.
"Not particularly," Bahiti admitted. "We didn't have a choice, though, this little talking skill thing outed us as soon as I walked through the door."
"Ouch. That sucks." Christine winced sympathetically. "That sucks."
