Kae nodded. "In a few days," she agreed. "We'll see what I can't figure out on my own first." Because she liked Jean but she also wanted to try on her own and see how much she could figure out.
|
Bruce nodded. That made sense.
"Alright," he said. |
A few days later everyone was back at Tony's mansion in Malibu, and Kae was having too much fun floating Clint around the room, because he'd turned out to be the most agreeable to being a test subject.
Tony approached Bruce quietly, glancing at his cousin before focusing on Bruce again. "I need help with something in my lab." |
Bruce raised an eyebrow, but nodded.
"Alright," he said. He glanced at Kae as well before looking back at Tony. Clearly, this wasn't something Tony wanted Kae to know about. |
Tony led the way back to the lab and slid over to his desk, tapping a few things into a computer.
"So I need a name and a number. Random." He snapped his fingers, still looking at the screen. |
Bruce gave him an amused look.
"Another AI?" he asked. "Or is this one an actual bit of technology?" |
"Tech," Tony answered, looking back at him. "More like Butterfingers." He grinned briefly. "Come on, Bruce, stop holding out on me."
|
"Six," Bruce replied after a moment. The name took another second or two, and even still he hesitated over it. "Elizabeth."
|
"Great." Tony tapped everything in quickly before hitting the enter key, grinning briefly when he heard the whirring from the little bot sitting in a temporary charging station at the end of his desk.
"Here we are. Hello, darling," Tony murmured to the little bot, smiling when the two little cameras focused on him. |
Bruce blinked.
"Another bot?" he asked. "What's this one for? Don't you have enough already?" Now he was curious; as addicted to tech as Tony was, even he didn't just build robots at random. |
"I do," Tony agreed easily, keeping an eye on Elizabeth as she started up and moved around the lab carefully. "But she's not going to stay here. Dummy, be nice! That's your little sister."
|
"But what is this one for?" Bruce asked again. "You don't typically build things for no reason."
|
"Oh, she has a reason," Tony agreed. "In a day or two, once I've made sure everything is fine and she has a better sleep station."
|
"That doesn't answer my question," Bruce pointed out. But he didn't push too much harder. He was sure Tony would tell him eventually.
|
Tony grinned when he saw that the little bot was settling in just fine. Satisfied, he turned to look at Bruce.
"Congrats, Brucie, you and Kae have a kid." |
Bruce blinked. And blinked again.
"Excuse me?" |
Tony just grinned and went to go pick up Elizabeth and test a few things. As well as make sure she knew exactly who her creator was, even though he'd be handing her over the next day.
|
"So why did you ask me for a number as well as a name?" Bruce asked as he watched Tony and the little robot.
|
"Hmm? Oh, a few random variables I hadn't worked out yet." Tony shrugged. "You contributed almost 12% of her personality."
|
"That's... a random percentage," Bruce commented.
|
"Ask Pepper." Tony grinned but didn't say anything more, instead leaving the little bot to adjust for the rest of the day, shooing Bruce out of the lab in front of him. "JARVIS, seal the lab until I come back."
"Of course, Sir." "So, Bruce. Feel like cooking dinner?" |
Bruce raised an eyebrow.
"That depends on what everyone wants for dinner," he replied. He knew that nobody could possibly want spicy Indian-style food every night. |
"Well you go ask them." Tony shrugged, looking at him. "I bet you can even rope Clint into helping."
|
"We'll see," Bruce said. Then he went to see what everyone else was doing.
|
The next evening everyone was gathered in the living room in preparation for a movie night, and Tony retreated briefly to his lab. He emerged again, grinning, the new bot under one arm.
"Hey, Kae," he said, walking over to her. "Took a little longer than I thought." He put the bot in her lap. Kae blinked, stunned, looking at the little beeping bot. "What?" |
