"I think he means he built it for you," Bruce attempted to translate. The little bot beeped hopefully from Kae's lap.
|
Kae melted just a little at the hopeful beep from the bot. "Really?" She looked over at Tony.
"Yup. Name's Elizabeth. She's your little helper bot." Tony grinned. Kae couldn't help but grin, offering a hand for the little bot to investigate. |
Elizabeth beeped cheerfully and scanned Kae's hand for a moment in greeting.
|
Kae grinned hugely and didn't actually pay much attention to the first movie, instead investigating Elizabeth and letting the bot investigate her in return. Tony was looking decidedly smug.
|
Elaine caught sight of the bot a moment later and came over.
"That's new," she commented, sitting down next to Kae and looking at the bot curiously. |
"Elizabeth, apparently." Kae grinned briefly and patted the top of the bot's head, listening to her happy beep. "Tony dropped her on my lap. Literally."
|
"She's cute," Elaine said, grinning a bit.
|
Kae grinned and nodded, keeping the bot on her lap. Because she already kind of adored the little bot. It really wasn't her fault; the bot was cute. And friendly.
|
It was only the next day that the Malibu vacation came to an end. Only it wasn't in a 'world's-in-peril' kind of end. It was more of a 'something's-come-up' issue.
"Friends!" Thor thundered. "It is good to be back on Midgard!" Hr grinned broadly even as Loki came into the room behind him. |
"Welcome back, buddy," Tony greeted, looking over at the two.
"Where are Elaine and Kae?" Loki glanced at Tony. "Um, I think they're down at the pool." Tony frowned a little, looking at him as Loki left the room, heading over to the pool. |
Elaine was happily floating in the pool with her eyes turned off, just enjoying the warm sun and the cool water. The only way she knew Loki was coming towards them was the heads-up from Claudia.
"Master Laufeyson is approaching," the AI informed her. She wasn't entirely sure why the AI called him that, but she assumed Loki told her to; Elaine certainly hadn't. "Thanks, Claude," Elaine said. She waited until she could hear Loki's footsteps. "Welcome back," she called to him. |
"Kae. Elaine." Loki looked at them quietly for several moments.
"Hey Loki," Kae greeted, swimming over to the side of the pool and looking at him, even as Elizabeth whirred and brought her a towel. "What's up?" "There is a... conference, of sorts, in a week's time. I must attend, as must Thor. I am allowed to bring humans with me, however." He looked at them both and sniffed imperiously. But the image was ruined when he gave them both a vaguely pleading look. |
Elaine let that thought percolate in her head for a second as she made her way to the side of the pool and turned her implants back on.
"What kind of conference involves gods?" she asked after a moment. |
"We hold a conference every fifty years or so," Loki said with a shrug. "To make sure no one is planning to end the world out of turn, or has been up to undue mischief." He shifted.
Kae paused. Okay, yeah, those were valid concerns. "So what would we have to do if we go?" "Not much. Simply accompany me. You would have accommodations, your own rooms, and your meals would be paid for." He raised an eyebrow at them. |
"I can't help but notice the phrase 'planning to end the world out of turn,'" Elaine observed. "But ignoring that... There's a convention. Of gods. And we get to go?" She thought about it for a second. "Who, exactly, is going to be there?"
|
"A better question would be who won't be there," Loki corrected. "There will be representatives from every pantheon."
"Greeks, Romans, Egyptians..." "Indians, Mesopotamians, and many others. Yes." |
Elaine's expression immediately brightened at 'Egyptians.'
"I'll go," she promptly said. It was something she couldn't pass up, or she would regret it forever. And she knew it. |
"Same," Kae piped up with a grin. "There's no way I'm missing an opportunity like this."
Loki blinked before he smirked. "Excellent," he said, as if there had never even been a question of them going. "We'll be leaving in a week. You will want to bring clothes for various occasions." |
"Define various occasions," Elaine said. "Exact parameters." There was no way she was going to be under-dressed for anything, although she doubted it would be possible to be over-dressed. But she still needed to know.
|
"There will be a few formal events you will be required to attend," Loki said with a shrug. "For the rest... I believe the term is business casual? Nothing too fancy. Oh, and don't pick anything too flashy. I don't want you two pissing off Aphrodite because you gain more attention than she does."
|
"Right," Elaine said. "We all know what happened to the last person who did that..." Yup, she knew her mythology. "Formal as in ballgown formal, or cocktail formal?" Because there was a difference. Business casual, however, was easy.
|
"Both. Just in case. The events vary." Loki shrugged.
"How long is this conference?" "A week? Two?" Loki shrugged again. "It depends when we get sick of each other and start going after each other." |
Elaine grinned and got out of the pool.
"I'll go see about talking Tony out of one of his credit cards, then," she said. "I don't exactly keep ball gowns on hand." |
Kae snickered and got out as well, grinning when Elizabeth zoomed over to give Elaine a towel too. "You know, we still have that hazard pay from Fury from when they were yea high." She put a hand to just above her knee. "Although I doubt Tony would notice if he did give us a credit card."
|
"This is true," Elaine said as she took the towel from the bot and thanked it. "I would be able to get something really nice with that hazard pay."
