Tony grinned (only a touch evilly) and walked over to Target, starting to look.
Sure enough, it took him only minutes to find two Iron Man swim suits. |
Meanwhile, Elaine was with Steve and Loki to see what she could find for them. Because no, she wasn't going to let anyone buy Steve a star-spangled swim suit while she had anything to say about it, and she just wanted to keep an eye on Loki.
Steve had found a nice swim suit in dark blue, which was acceptable since it was too dark to be flag colors. Loki, meanwhile, was mostly just looking around, amused.
"You're enjoying this," Elaine accused, grinning, Loki as she went by. "Maybe a little too much."
"Perhaps," Loki agreed easily. "But it is entertaining, you do have to admit."
"Entertaining, yeah," Elaine said. "But it'll be better once we're back home and I don't have to keep an eye on Tony and Clint."
Loki shrugged. "They will be well enough on their own," she said uncaringly. "However, it is less likely that they will cause a scene at Tony's home."
"Trust me, we want to avoid a scene," Elaine said. After a moment, she added, "and I kind of want to sit down and see if I can pick my way through this."
"Through the spell?" Loki asked, blinking. "Or the situation in general?"
"The spell, primarily," Elaine said, "but I guess both." She looked at Loki. "You can't tell me you see any good coming from this, especially with Clint and Tony."
Loki shrugged. "I do not thing any major harm will come of it, unless a villain decides now is a good time to attack." She smiled briefly.
"Yeah, well, we'll get the X-Men or the Fantastic Four to handle it if that happens," Elaine replied, "because there's no way I'm letting this group out of the mansion until this is fixed." Because a gender-swapped Avengers was just not a good thing to put into battle.
Loki snickered. "I do hope I get to meet the X-Men at some point. Humans mutated beyond normal. The possibilities are intriguing if somewhat limited."
"Ask Kae," Elaine commented. "She's got connections with the X-Men. She's telekinetic, remember?"
Loki nodded, but he didn't make a move to get up yet. He could go find Kae later.
It didn't take them much longer to get back to the mansion, after that, and Elaine was glad. She didn't want to have to keep her group of three in line any more than she had to, and besides, she had to call Coulson and tell him what happened. So as soon as she had a spare minute, she pulled out her phone and dialed Phil.
"This is Coulson." Coulson knew who it was, but that was his customary way of answering the phone.
"Phil, someone magicked the Avengers again," Elaine said. No, really, she wasn't whining. "And it's weirder this time."
Coulson sighed. "What happened this time?" he asked patiently, rubbing his temples.
"Gender-bending," Elaine replied. She could practically see his expression. "Everyone but Kae and I. We already took everyone down to the mall to get clothes that fit, and we're back in the mansion now." Because Phil knew they were in Malibu. He wouldn't be Phil Coulson if he didn't know trivial details like that. "And Loki had nothing to do with it, this has someone else's metaphysical fingerprints all over it, and he got hit too, anyways."
Coulson sighed. "Do you need me to fly out there?" he asked, already getting up and going to grab enough clothes for a few days.
"If I say 'no', are you going to show up anyways?" Elaine asked in return. Legitimate question, where Phil was concerned. "We've got things under control for now, and this... spell shouldn't last longer than a few weeks. The only real concern right now is if something happens elsewhere that requires superhero intervention. I think we should have the Fantastic Four or someone on hand just in case."
"Already working on it," Coulson said. "I should be there in a few hours." Because no, it didn't matter what she said, he was going to show up.
"I figured," Elaine said. "I'll let the others know you're on your way." And somehow keep Tony from being bored enough to try to build a female Iron Man suit. "I'm going to see how much of this I can pick apart in the meantime." She was absolutely certain Phil knew about her magic training.
"Of course. Keep me updated." Coulson ended the call and went to go commandeer a Quinjet.
Kae looked over at Elaine. "So, any problems with Phil?" |
