Steve grinned. "That's pretty impressive. You even managed to?" Even though he had no desire to fly, he could appreciate how excited she probably was.
|
"In the most technical sense of the word," Elaine replied. "I got off the ground and stayed there for a few minutes. About a dozen times." She grinned. "Now I just need to practice more."
|
"Tomorrow," Steve said with a little grin. "You don't need more practice tonight."
|
Elaine nodded. She could agree to that.
"Before I forget," she said, changing the subject, "do you know if a package came for me at all? I ordered something online and it should be arriving any time." |
"I think so," Steve said slowly. "I'll have to double-check, but I think something came for you." He shrugged. "Want me to go grab it?"
|
"I'll get it later," Elaine said. "But thanks. I just wanted to know if it came in." Turning on her implants again, she carefully got up. Her headache wasn't as bad as the first one, thankfully.
|
Steve stayed next to her though, just in case she ended up needing help.
"Still okay?" he asked quietly, taking her elbow gently anyway. |
"Okay enough," Elaine replied. She linked her arm through his, leaning on him a little. "I appreciate the concern, though." Stretching up, she kissed his cheek.
|
Steve smiled and pulled her a little closer, content for the moment to just walk with her.
|
Elaine cuddled close to him, content.
"So what were you doing while I was trying to fly?" she asked. |
"Drawing." Steve grinned briefly. "Finished that picture of Tony and his bots. I'm thinking of doing one of Kae, Bruce, and her bot."
|
Elaine grinned.
"You should," she said. "It would be almost like a family portrait, it'll be adorable." |
Steve grinned and nodded. "Maybe tomorrow you can get them all together for me?"
|
"I'll try," Elaine promised. She put her head on his shoulder.
|
Steve smiled a little and steered her back into the living room. Because he could smell Bruce cooking, and that was always a good thing.
|
Elaine could smell the cooking, as well, and grinned a bit. Bruce was just as good of a cook as Kae was. Settling on the couch, she snuggled in close to Steve.
|
Steve kept her there, keeping an arm around her and settling in until dinner time.
Then he let her up and stretched briefly, grinning at Bruce briefly. |
Elaine totally didn't mind being kept there, since it was Steve. When he let her up, she stretched a little as well and followed him to the kitchen.
Bruce smiled slightly back at them both and went to wake Kae for dinner. |
Steve handed her a plate and let her go first, content to wait a bit and keep the others from diving on the food.
Kae grumbled a little when Bruce let light into her nice little cozy dark space and rolled away from the light. |
Things went on that quietly for longer than Elaine would have thought possible, but as always, all good things must end. It ended up being that she and Kae were left in the tower on their own as the Avengers were all pulled off on separate missions at approximately the same time (except Thor, who went back to Asgard with Loki to check in), so now it was a waiting game.
|
Kae was in the living room pacing. A foot above the actual floor. Because while she still hadn't mastered flying, but she was wonderful at making invisible floors.
"Something's not right," she muttered. "Tony said he was going to check in last night, and we haven't heard from him, and something's not right." |
"Easy, Kae," Elaine said, curled up on the couch. "Maybe he just hasn't had the chance yet. Something might have come up." She didn't sound convinced herself, though, not completely.
|
"No, Tony's bad, but he's not bad when it matters," Kae insisted. "Jarvis?"
Jarvis didn't respond, staying silent. That just made Kae even more nervous, and she threw a look at Elaine. |
That set Elaine on edge, too.
"Claudia?" she ventured. There was a beat of silence before the AI responded. "Sir requires the full capacity of Jarvis for the moment," she said. "Jarvis will be unavailable until such time as his full attention is no longer necessary." |
"His full attention? Tony never needs Jarvis' full attention unless he's in danger of some kind." Kae was starting to panic a little. "Maybe I should call Bruce or Clint or someone to go check on him."
