Kae smiled and continued for a while until she figured Hulk was settled again, since Bruce looked very relaxed in the way that meant he wasn't struggling with the Hulk anymore.
"Thanks," Bruce murmured, "but you didn't have to." He didn't, however, push too hard about it.
"Course I did," Kae said quietly. "It's practically my job, you know." She kissed his cheek, settling in there.
Bruce gave her an indulgent look, but didn't argue, just holding her.
Kae didn't move until he went to go check on Tony, and then she went back to distracting herself with her invisible trampoline.
Once Kae was sufficiently occupied, Bruce went up to Tony's floor and quietly opened the door to the genius's room.
Tony was still sleeping, though it wasn't very peaceful. He'd kicked his sheets off, one hand over the Arc reactor so blue light seeped through his fingers.
Bruce went over and pulled the blanket back up over Tony again before quietly retreating. Tony seemed alright for now. He wasn't any worse, at any rate.
Tony twitched and shoved one leg out from under the blankets, twisting until he was comfortable again before settling down.
Quietly, Bruce left the room. He made his way back down to the gym to see if Kae was still there.
Kae was still there, as proven when she crashed to the ground again, swearing. She still couldn't get the hang of flying no matter how she thought of it.
Bruce went and sat down on the edge of the mat to watch her.
"Are you afraid of heights?" he asked after a moment? |
"I... sort of?" Kae shrugged. "I mean, I'm fine with planes, and I can go sit outside on the landing pad, not like Clint does but Clint is just crazy, but I sort of don't like being able to see the ground that far below me." Kae shivered briefly. "I just keep seeing myself going SPLAT."
"Maybe that's the problem," Bruce suggested. "Maybe you're too worried about going splat to really fly."
"Maybe," Kae agreed. "But I have no idea how to get over that. I mean it's not something I can just tell myself to stop, I've tried that."
Bruce contemplated it for a moment.
"I'm not sure," he said finally. He put his arms around her. |
Kae just sighed and nodded, settling in against him there. "This is one of those times I don't really like this."
"Take a break for a bit," Bruce said. He wasn't going to tell her to relax, since he doubted anyone in the tower would be relaxing at least until Tony woke up, but taking a break would be alright.
Kae nodded and took that as permission to crawl into his lap and cuddle. Because that was the closest she could get to relaxing at the moment.
Bruce let her, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. He knew she was worried about Tony, so he would offer what comfort he could.
Kae stayed there until it got so late it was almost early, and then she reluctantly got up and let Bruce up, in case he needed to go check on Tony again.
Bruce did want to check on Tony, but this time he tugged Kae along with him. He figured it might set her a bit at ease if she saw how Tony was doing.
Kae did relax when she saw Tony sleeping, a little more peacefully this time. He'd even latched on to one of his extra pillows, half-curled around that.
Bruce went over and pulled the blanket up around Tony again, and then left the room quietly. He would see about waking Tony in a few hours to make him eat something.
Kae trailed after him, moving into the kitchen to make something. She was still too restless to settle down, and everyone else was asleep (or at least not there) so she figured she should keep herself busy.
