"I'd rather be sure," Bruce replied quietly. "We don't know if the baby will have any of my radiation. If it does, it could kill you."
"If," Kae pointed out. "If it does. We don't know yet, and Tony just checked and I'm not giving off radiation."
"Yet," Bruce pointed out. "But it might happen later. Which is why I want to keep an eye on you and the baby."
"I know, I don't mind that," Kae said. "Keeping an eye on is fine. But if you're going to insist on taking blood and doing all this every week I'm not going to be pleased."
"How else do you expect us to keep an eye on things?" Bruce asked. "Please, Kae. I just want to make sure nothing happens, to either of you."
"I know." Kae sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "But, I mean, is all this really necessary? Blood samples and whatever else you all want from me? Can't you just wave a Geiger counter at me?"
"Not necessarily," Bruce said. "The trace radiation might be too weak, but long-term exposure to it would still hurt you." He sighed. "Please."
"Alright, alright. Fine. Geeze, you don't need to pull out the pouty eyes." Kae sighed.
Bruce smiled slightly.
"Thank you," he said. He pulled her into a hug. |
Kae nestled against him, getting comfortable there for the moment.
"I'm gonna have to get vitamins, aren't I?" she mumbled. |
"Definitely," Bruce replied. "And I'll get everyone in on it to make you take them every day, if I have to. I'll get Tony in on it."
"Tony can't eat regulated meals on his own to save his life," Kae pointed out with a little grin.
"Tony takes care of other people a whole lot better than he takes care of himself," Bruce pointed out in return. "Especially family."
Kae made a face. He had a point there.
"Fine," she grumbled. "We can head down the store and get vitamins and whatever else you want to foist on me." |
"Good," Bruce said. He gave her a kiss.
Kae kissed him again before leaning back a bit.
"So are you coming with or shall I do the shopping on my own today?" |
"I'll leave that up to you," Bruce said, holding her. "I thought you would want to take Elaine with you, instead. I'm not really one for shopping."
"True. I'll go ask her in a few minutes." Kae stayed there for a little bit. She'd noticed that he hadn't told her to go alone, but she kind of expected that.
Bruce held her close, absently rubbing her back a little.
"I'll try not to be overbearing," he said quietly. "Though I make no promises." |
"Between you and Tony..." Kae shook her head a bit, though she relaxed against him. "If it's just you two I can deal with it, though."
Bruce chuckled a bit.
"We'll see how everyone else reacts to the news," he said. He paused for a beat, and then added curiously, "does anyone else know?" |
"Elaine. I didn't tell her outright, but she kind of figured it out. Tony, obviously. But that's it." Kae shrugged. "I didn't want to tell anyone else in case I was wrong, and I figured you should know first."
"I appreciate that," Bruce said. "Although it's probably not going to stay a secret much longer, all things considered."
"No, probably not. We should probably tell everyone anyway." Kae paused and looked up at him. "If you want to, anyway."
Bruce gave her a small kiss.
"I'll leave it up to you," he said. He gave her a wry little grin. "Maybe you noticed, I'm not exactly the shout-it-from-the-rooftops type." |
