Elaine wanted to pout and say it wasn't fair, but she just sighed.
"Fine," she said. |
Loki smiled rather smugly and waited for her decision. They didn't have to be in the same room to see magic, after all.
Elaine closed her eyes for a moment to concentrate as she picked through what she could sense in the tower. She paused after a moment.
"Those are the same icky green fingerprints from last time," she said, opening her eyes again. "From the genderbending incident." |
"Very good," Loki praised. "I wondered if you'd remember the signature so clearly."
"I don't like it," Elaine admitted. "It feels sticky and oily and kind of acidic. It makes it hard to forget."
Loki nodded. "Her magic is not Earth-bound," he said. "She uses Asgardian magic, as I do." Because of course he knew who had done this.
"It's still not the same," Elaine said. "It's like different shades of green, if that makes sense. And I really don't like the nasty acidic green in these fingerprints."
"That would be her personal touch," Loki agreed. "Her magic is flavored differently than mine, if you will. The same differences appear between mortal magic-users."
"Makes sense," Elaine said. "So what happened? How were Bruce and the Hulk split?"
"Some rather ingenious spell." Loki shrugged. "I haven't been able to determine the details of it yet. Perhaps if we study it we can figure it out."
"You're also working at a disadvantage, so it's understandable," Elaine pointed out. "Kae was asking earlier if we had any idea how to fix things, so I'll let her know it's being looked into."
"Do that. How is she faring?" Loki settled in his chair. He didn't feel like actually getting up to go check on the pregnant woman.
"She seems alright," Elaine said, shrugging a bit. "Not that I'm an expert or anything, but still, she seems fine."
"I'll see her later to be sure," Loki decided. Because of course he was going to take some interest in the pregnant woman.
Elaine nodded a bit. She wasn't surprised, really; Loki was the only one in the Tower at the moment who really had kids, it wasn't surprising he would take an interest in Kae's pregnancy.
Loki waited until dinner to go up to check on Kae. He pretty much ignored everyone else as he walked into the main room, instead going straight over to Kae. At least she looked healthy so far.
Kae shot a look at Elaine, clearly confused. |
Elaine shrugged.
"Hey, he's got kids, just humor him," she said. She knew that Loki was getting weird looks from just about everyone but Thor, at this point. Bruce was watching Loki warily as the trickster went over to Kae. |
Kae held still as Loki poked and prodded at her, although he did so gently. He spread one hand over her belly, closing his eyes briefly before he smiled.
"You're both healthy," he said, rubbing her belly a bit. "And the little one is developing well." |
Bruce watched carefully, although he did relax slightly when Loki didn't do anything harmful. And, to be honest, he was glad when he heard Kae and the baby were fine.
"You should get out more though," Loki continued. "Take walks around the part or at least sit out there." He gave Bruce a meaningful look.
Bruce just raised an eyebrow slightly at him in an almost-but-not-quite 'who are you to say' sort of way.
Loki just smirked. As the only person who had been pregnant (multiple times, even) he was uniquely qualified to say what was good.
And if Bruce didn't cooperate, he'd just take Kae out himself. |
"Tomorrow we can head out to the park to wander a bit," Elaine said, breaking the silence. "No big deal. I've been wanting to get out of the tower for a little while, anyways."
"Excellent," Loki said, getting to his feet. "Tomorrow, then." He meandered out of the room.
"Sounds like a good plan to me," Kae agreed. |
Bruce resisted asking Kae if she was sure about going. He knew there wasn't much danger in just heading to the park, and it had been proven before that Loki would look after the girls, as bizarre as that seemed.
