"Alrighty." Kae checked. And then stopped for a second.
"Um. Apparently he wasn't joking about the whole four times our normal pay bit. And the hazard pay thing. It's... a very nice hazard pay." |
Elaine paused.
"How nice?" she asked. "On a scale of a normal day to winning the lottery." |
"Okay, not winning the lottery. More like... getting a nice inheritance from a relative? Or getting like two months' pay in a day or two?" Kae shrugged.
"Two months' pay all at once?" Elaine asked, her eyes widening a bit even as they stared at nothing. "That's... impressive. Although, considering who we were babysitting..."
"I know. I could get used to this, though." Kae grinned. "Just imagine the epic shopping trips."
"Oh god I know," Elaine said, grinning. "Of course, I can't go shopping without you. Or I could, but it wouldn't work too well."
Kae snickered. "You could take Steve," she said, all too innocently.
Elaine couldn't quite fight off the blush that rose at that.
"You don't take men shopping," she protested. "It doesn't work that way, they don't care." |
"Oh, I'm sure you could get him to give you an opinion on some things," Kae said airily, grinning. Because now she was just having too much fun.
"Hush," Elaine said, still pink. "Men are not good for shopping. Scientific fact."
Kae snickered but didn't say anything else. "Well, we can have an epic shopping trip soon." She paused. "And maybe drag Steve along to teach him how to go shopping properly."
"Why are you picking on Steve?" Elaine asked finally. "Why not Tony or someone?"
"Because you like Steve, not Tony. And Tony would bitch the whole time we were out and you know it." Kae shrugged.
"I don't like Steve!" Elaine denied. "Not--not like that!" But oh how she blushed.
"Your blush says otherwise," Kae said, but she didn't push it anymore. "But first we should see if they got one of our plans to work."
"Hush," Elaine mumbled, still red. "Go ahead and call Tony, then, it's your turn."
Kae rolled her eyes but called Tony.
"Any news yet?" "Not yet. I'll let you know when I hear from Thor. He and Loki are off trying to find the Romans." "Alright, fair enough. Let me know." |
"At least he managed to find Thor," Elaine commented as she listened. "That's good."
"Yeah, it's a start." Kae sighed. "So I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens."
"Ten bucks says the first one he finds is Jove," Elaine said after a moment, grinning a bit. "I can just see it now, a pair of thunder gods making friends and then going to get drunk."
Kae laughed. "Oh I can totally see that. But then we'll never get any information." She rolled her eyes.
"Of course we can," Elaine replied, grinning. The grin turned into a full-on smirk. "Have Tony buy out a liquor store's stock of mead."
Kae laughed at that. Hard.
"He would," she gasped. "Oh man he so would. And then he'd drink half of it." |
"He'd have to out-bluster Thor and Jupiter for it," Elaine pointed out, giggling. Then she laughed harder. "Oh god I can imagine him with that 'challenge accepted' meme you told me about. So much."
"I know right?" Kae just kept snickering. "Oh man that would just be the best competition ever, and you know it. They'd all be roaring drunk."
