Thor mumbled something in Norse for a moment before he realized that he had to speak a language she could understand.
"More mead," he muttered. He did a slight double-take when he noticed her metal leg, and he sat up a bit. "Unless I'm farther into my cups than I thought, I believe that wasn't there before." |
"What, this?" Kae leaned down to rap a finger against her metal bit, grinning briefly. "Yeah. I've only had it for a little while. Tony made it for me."
"It suits you," Thor commented, nodding a bit. He grinned. "I approve!"
Kae chuckled. "I'm so glad you approve," she said, with only a hint of sarcasm. "Although I don't see how you think a metal leg suits me, but oh well."
"It makes you look more the warrior," Thor replied. He nodded once. "You have faced obstacles, and survived. That is one of the best kinds of victory!"
Kae couldn't help herself. She laughed. He was just being cute.
"Well, I guess you must be right. I'm sure you know better than I di." Kae grinned at him. |
"Indeed," Thor replied. He sat on the edge of the bed and gave her a critical once-over. "Indeed, I believe I like your metal leg."
"Oh, so we've gone from approval to liking it now, have we?" Kae grinned, moving a step or two closer to him.
"We have," Thor replied. "As I said... It suits you well. I like it very much."
Kae grinned. "Well, thanks." She moved over to sit on the bed next to him so he could get a better look. "Bet you've never seen anything like this, huh?"
"Not quite, no," Thor replied as she sat down. "Similar, but not identical." Reaching out, he touched the metal gently.
Kae shivered briefly. Tony had done a very good job with it; she could just feel the touch.
"Remind me to thank Tony later. When he's not being a dick." |
"Your thanks may be a while in coming, then," Thor replied, grinning. He touched the metal again, curious.
"Exactly." Kae grinned and shifted to give him easier access. It felt a little odd to have someone other than herself touch the metal, but she didn't mind, not really.
Thor noticed how Kae seemed to be reacting, and went to experiment a little further.
Elaine's attention was dragged from the news report when she heard some noise from the guest room. It didn't take more than a second or two of listening for her to blush. Quickly, she made her way as far from the guest room as she could: out to the front porch. After a few minutes, she pulled out her phone and pushed the button to activate vocal commands. "Call: Steve." |
Steve blinked when his phone buzzed at him, even though it was rather late.
"This is Steve." He kept his voice quiet as he answered, still poring over a book and only half-way paying attention to the phone. |
"Steve?" Elaine said hesitantly. "It's Elaine." She was quiet for a second. "I'm sorry to call so suddenly, are you busy?"
"Elaine?" Steve blinked, looking up from his book. "No! No, it's fine. I just wasn't expecting to hear from you. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah," Elaine replied, "yeah, everything's fine. But... Well, Tony foisted Thor off on us again, since Thor went and got drunk on mead, and Kae was a little buzzed herself, and I think she and Thor just hit it off really, really well, and the walls in this house are nowhere near thick enough..." She stopped, aware that she was rambling. "I just don't want to stick around and listen to them go at it all night."
Steve grimaced. Ah, yes, one of those. He'd been in that situation before.
"Alright. Well, if you want, I know this little all-night diner," he offered. He didn't want to make it sound like a date, since her emotions still weren't her own, but he didn't want to just leave her there, either. |
Elaine was a little surprised at the invitation, but it still created that warm little glow in her chest.
"I'd like that," she said. Quickly, she added, "I don't want you to go to any trouble, though..." |
"No trouble." Steve shrugged. "I was thinking of going out anyway. Can't sleep."
"If you're sure," Elaine said. She was quiet for a moment. "Thanks, though."
"No problem." Steve hesitated for a moment. "I'll see you in a few minutes, then."
"Alright," Elaine replied. "I'll be waiting. You know you don't have to do this..." she trailed off.
