Thor watched her for a moment.

"I do not understand," he finally said. "You are not soulless, that much is clear. You do not want for a soul."

Kae blinked, and it took her a few moments to catch up to him. "It's a saying," she said, grinning at him briefly and moving so she was sitting sideways, one of her feet against his thigh. "We don't mean it literally. But since you mentioned it... how exactly do you know I have a soul?"

Thor tilted his head a little to the side.

"You mean you can't tell?" he asked.

"No." Kae smiled a little. "We can't tell if someone has a soul or not. Some people don't even believe in souls."

"Fascinating," Thor mused. "However, you do have a soul. It's a... warmth, of sorts, that lingers about your person."

"Does it feel the same for everyone? I mean, do all souls feel the same?" Kae blinked at him. Hey, it was a rare opportunity to gather more knowledge, so she was going to gain all the information she could.

"There are... variations," Thor replied. "Not all humans are the same, are they?" He shrugged a bit. "Each is slightly different from the next."

Kae nodded. "But you can always tell?" she pressed. Then she paused as another thought struck her.

"Do gods have souls?"

"Not in the same sense that humans do," Thor responded slowly. "However, at least those of Asgard have something similar."

"Huh." Kae absorbed that before she shrugged. "Alright." She got comfortable again and called Tony to try to figure out what exactly was going on.

And then she called Elaine again.

Elaine wasted no time in picking up her phone. She knew it was Kae calling.

"That was quick," she said.

"It was quick because I got exactly zilch," Kae said with a snort. "I called him, he said he was busy and hung up. I called him again and he said I'd find out in due time and if I called him again he'd put a virus on my phone so it played something horrible and 80's every time someone called."

Elaine sighed.

"Yeah, that sounds like Tony," she agreed. "I suppose we'll find out, then, unless you can somehow get in to talk to that AI of his."

"Yeah, not right now. I'll see if I can get over there later if you want, but for the moment it's a no-go." Kae shrugged. "Anything else I can dig up for you?"

"No thanks," Elaine replied. "It's fine." She sighed slightly, and then changed the subject. "So what have you been up to since I left?"

"Not much. Library, home, spending time with Thor." Kae shrugged, making herself comfortable again.

Elaine couldn't help but grin a bit.

"I didn't ask what you were doing, sweets," she teased. "I asked what you were up to. Though I'm glad you're not by yourself."

"I told you both." Kae rolled her eyes. "And no, I'm not alone. I'm sure it's not as crowded as being surrounded by cousins, but I'm far from alone."

"I'm almost wishing I'd gone to my grandparents instead," Elaine said. She paused for a moment, listening to the conversation in the other room, and groaned slightly. "Yeah, I was right. They're not stupid, they've connected the name Tony to the ringtone on my phone and come to the right conclusion."

Kae laughed. "Good luck explaining that. I could always have Tony go 'rescue' you." She was mostly teasing. Although she did think it would be hilarious to see the look on her cousins faces if Tony Stark showed up at the house.

"Don't you dare, Kae King," Elaine replied. "I will never hear the end of it if you do. It's bad enough I'm going to be buried under questions once I get off the phone."

Kae snickered. "Yeah, I know," she said in a tone that said she knew exactly what she was doing to her friend. "Don't worry, I won't send him." She paused. "Yet."

"Don't," Elaine replied. She paused for a moment. "And just to delay the time when I have to face the cousin-powered firing squad, I might try to call Tony myself and ask what he's up to. If it requires my phone connecting, I think I should know what it is."

"With Tony, who knows?" Kae shrugged. "Maybe he was making sure his tracking device is registering properly." She was only mostly joking about that.

Elaine snorted.

"It's probably more complicated and devious than that," she replied. "But still essentially right."
