"Yeah, I'm sure he has some much more technical way of putting it." Kae rolled her eyes at her cousin.
"Exactly," Elaine said. "Well, I'll call him next. Have fun while I'm gone and be safe, alright?" She snickered just a bit. "I really doubt we need any demigods running around."
Kae spluttered a little bit before she huffed. "Yeah, yeah," she grumbled. "I'll see you soon. Try not to thwack your cousins too many times."
"I'll stop when they figure out how I manage to keep hitting them with my cane," Elaine replied. "I'll talk to you later." With that, she hung up. Briefly, she debated going to face her cousins, but decided to delay the inevitable and hit the voice command again. "Call: Tony."
Tony ignored his phone. For the first three times. He knew it was Elaine calling again, and when he had a minute to spare (and the phone was ringing again) he finally answered.
"Yeah? Why are you calling so many times?" |
"Because I knew you'd eventually get annoyed enough to answer," Elaine replied calmly. "And I have four cousins in the next room smart enough to connect the ringtone assigned to your number with your name and I'm avoiding the questions for the moment."
Tony snickered, clearly not at all feeling pity towards her. "I see," he said with a brief grin. "And then after this you'll get barraged with questions about me."
"Tony, three of my cousins are ridiculously fanatical about Iron Man," Elaine said. "And the fourth is enough of a technology-whore that I'm fairly sure he has the Stark Industries logo stenciled on his bedroom wall. But I can double-check on that."
Tony was quiet for a moment, thinking that over, before he shrugged. "Yeah, you'll be barraged with questions. So, any other important reason you called, or can I actually get back to work now?"
"Actually, there was," Elaine replied. "What was the phone call earlier? I'm still not completely fluent in 'mad genius,' and a 'there you are *click*' phone call is weird."
Tony shrugged. "I had to finish the connection to the GPS on your phone." It totally made sense to him. "Don't worry about it."
"Why is there GPS on my phone in the first place?" Elaine pressed. "Tony, I'm never going to use GPS on my phone, ever. It's kind of a useless program for me."
"All phones come with a GPS," Tony said, sounding distracted. "I just had to get a lock on yours." He shrugged. "Really, Elaine, I would have thought you'd know that."
"Tony, I have no idea what all my phone does," Elaine pointed out. "I can't exactly flip through the menu or anything. All I use it for is making calls." She paused for a moment. "And why did you need to get a lock on my phone in the first place?"
"I'm still surprised you haven't found a way to figure everything out, or asked Kae to tell you." Tony was quiet for a moment. "It pays to know where you and Kae are at all times. Just in case. You never know when something might happen."
"Contrary to popular belief, Tony, there are some things I just can't do," Elaine replied. "Reading a screen is one of them." She already had to trust other people to put numbers into her phone for her, she didn't want to push it much farther than that. "And I'm surprised you didn't just hack into SHIELD again for what you needed, I'm sure they keep tabs on everyone."
"They didn't have your phone GPS in the system yet. I added it in while I was doing this." Tony sounded far too smug about that.
"While you were doing what?" Elaine asked. "Information is key, Tony. You know that as well as I do, you probably sold your soul for information when you were a kid just like I did."
Tony snorted. "I did no such thing. Not quite. Let's just say now I know where you are. Or where your phone is, anyway."
"And why is that important?" Elaine pressed. "Come on, I need to know. If only because my relatives won't necessarily take it nearly as well as Kae and I if we get any sort of Avenger-visits."
"Because we can't have you just vanishing off the map whenever you want. What if we need you for something?" Tony shrugged again. "Don't worry, no one will be showing up until at least tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" Elaine repeated. "Anthony Stark, what did you do?"
"Almost nothing." The grin was clear in Tony's voice. "Better start answering your cousins' questions or you'll really never hear the end of it..."
"Tony..." Elaine said warningly. She sighed. "Just tell me one thing, then. Who, exactly, is going to show up tomorrow?"
"I don't know yet. It kind of depends if Kae decides she and Thor need to go get you, or if they foist off the task on someone else. It won't be me, though."
