Tony beamed, puffing up. Loki took that as a challenge and huffed, going to gather his own tinker toys so he could build something. Which turned out to be a replica of the main hall in Asgard.
|
Elaine watched him build, intrigued. When he was finished, though, she was more than just intrigued.
"I'm impressed," she said. |
Then it was Loki's turn to puff up, smirking. "Our home," he said, glancing over at Thor. "In Asgard."
|
"I feel like I should be marginally jealous," Elaine said. "Even in tinker toys it's amazing." It was partially to humor the boy, of course, but it was also partially true.
|
Loki grinned. "This is just the main hall," he boasted. "The rest of Asgard is even bigger."
Tony pouted a little. "I want to see~." |
"Maybe if Loki describes it to Steve, Steve can draw it?" Elaine suggested gently. She glanced at both boys.
|
Loki and Steve exchanged looks before they both shrugged.
"We could try it," Steve offered cautiously. "Alright." Loki launched into descriptions, and Steve scrambled to start drawing. |
Thankfully, the boys managed to stay distracted for the rest of the day, until it was time to round them all up for bed. The next several days were similar, minus the appearance of the Hulk, and finally they were given the okay to take the boys out of the tower.
|
Kae had managed to get Natasha and Phil to go with them to the aquarium, saying that four adults were more likely to be able to keep track of the boys than just two. Clint had already attached himself to Natasha, and Steve didn't stay far from Elaine.
Once they got to the aquarium (another trip funded by Tony because he wouldn't even notice the difference when he was back to normal), Kae took charge of getting tickets and getting the kids' hands stamped. |
While Kae was taking care of tickets, Elaine was looking over the map of the aquarium to scope out the best places to take the boys. Once she had a few spots in mind, she went to Kae.
"Alright, I think I know what we're doing now," she said. |
"Great, cause I only have a vague idea." Kae grinned at her as Tony grabbed one of her hands, Loki her other. The kids had all been strictly instructed to hang on to one of the adults whenever they were walking, and not to wander off by themselves.
|
Elaine nodded as Steve took one of her hands and Bruce and Thor went to stay near Phil.
"This way first," she said, heading towards the nearest building. "We'll go in a big circle, so we end up here again." |
Kae nodded and let Elaine take the lead, walking with her two charges. She didn't mind when they scampered over to the tank to look at the fish, but she did stay close, smiling a little.
|
Elaine had to nudge Steve once or twice to let him know it was okay to go look, but he got the idea pretty quick after that. As they went through each exhibit, she made notes on the map which ones the kids liked best, just in case they came back around again.
|
Kae was pretty relaxed, having fun looking at all the fish around the aquarium.
At least until they got to the jellyfish. Then she hung very far back from the glass. "Kae?" Loki blinked up at her. "I don't like jellyfish." Kae grimaced. "You go on and look at them. Go on." Loki frowned at her but moved over to the glass after a few moments, looking at the jellies. |
Elaine knew Kae didn't like jellies, and stepped up with the kids to keep an eye on them. She didn't mind, and the boys seemed to enjoy watching the jellies. Then came the 'petting tanks.'
"Thor," she said, kneeling down in front of the boy, "do you think you can keep your sparks to yourself?" |
Loki grinned, having no such problems as he reached into the tank, petting one of the little baby sharks in there. All the kids were quick to gather round once Loki had proved it was fine. Kae snickered at them, unconcerned.
|
Once Elaine was reasonably sure Thor wouldn't be the Asgardian equivalent of an electric eel, she let him put his hand into the water to pet the baby sharks and was surprised at how gentle he was with them. Once the boys were all bored with the petting tank, they kept going.
|
Kae dragged Coulson with her to get food enough to feed the boys at lunch time, and then watched to make sure they didn't wear themselves out too much running around the little outdoor picnic area. She blinked when she noticed Loki stayed seated between her and Elaine, apparently content to just watch the others.
|
Elaine noticed Loki stayed there, as well.
"Everything okay?" she asked him. |
Loki blinked at her before he nodded. "It's fun to watch them," he said with a shrug, like that should explain everything.
|
Elaine nodded in understanding.
"When I was a kid, it was always fun watching my brother run around," she agreed. "I mean, I'm older than he is, but it's still the same idea." |
Loki nodded his agreement, watching Thor with a little smile. He was glad his brother was having fun. After a moment he shuffled over to lean against Elaine's side.
|
That surprised Elaine for a moment, but she still put an arm around him to give him a quick hug
"So you're having fun?" she asked him. |
Loki nodded. "We have no such creatures in Asgard," he said. "These are all interesting." Although he had to admit Kae was right about one thing: he didn't like jellyfish, either.
