"Well, it's my island, isn't it?" Pan pointed out. "I can do what I please."
|
Hook just watched him. Of course he knew Pan could do what he wanted, but he usually had a reason for things. So he waited to see what would happen.
|
"I'll admit, I was surprised, Rumple," Pan said. "Who'd have ever thought you would take on another apprentice? They just never seem to do what you want."
"That is no one's concern but my own," Gold said coldly. |
"Is it now?" Pan smiled. "Now, now, Rumple, you should know better." But he didn't say anything else for a moment, instead glancing off to the side. "But you'll find out soon, I suspect." He grinned.
|
Gold didn't reply, but glanced off to the side as well to see if he could spot the person Pan was talking about. Whoever it was, Gold could guarantee that they were bad news.
|
Pan grinned and walked back into the trees, leaving them alone for the moment. He figured when Cora wanted them, she'd go find them. Or draw them to her. But Pan did like to greet guests himself.
|
Gold looked around warily once Pan left, and then gestured to the others.
"We should find shelter," he said. "Whoever brought us here will find us, regardless, so I would rather take care of some of the necessities in the meantime." |
Tina went ahead with Hook and found a nice little semi-clearing for them to camp out in.
"This good?" she asked, looking at Gold. |
"This will do fine," Gold said, nodding. He looked around, making note of the trees they could use as shelter. It was hard to do magic to manipulate their surroundings; Neverland was surprisingly stubborn about having magic worked on it. So most things had to be done the old-fashioned way.
|
Tina was already working on clambering up the trees and checking out their surroundings and pulling a few branches into a better position to shelter them. Hook paced off the area and then started gathering up some firewood.
|
Gold put up a protective ward around the makeshift camp. In Neverland, it would never be strong enough to keep Pan out, but it would at least warn them ahead of time if someone came across them. Rachel, on the other hand, went to help Killian get firewood.
|
Once they had settled in a bit, Hook found a good spot to sit and let Rachel or Gold light the fire instead.
Tina made her way back down. "I don't see anyone around, but that doesn't mean they're not there," she said quietly. |
"We're likely being monitored," Gold agreed quietly. He lit the fire as soon as the wood was down. "The island is crawling with Lost Boys."
Rachel went over and sat next to Killian. She leaned against him a bit, wordlessly both offering and asking for comfort. |
Tina settled down next to Gold for the moment, listening to everything around them.
Hook settled his arm around her, not quite relaxing but settling in. |
Rachel tucked herself against Killian's side, her head on his shoulder.
Gold let Tina sit next to him, and subtly put his hand on hers. That was the most he would do while they were in Neverland; he couldn't risk any more vulnerability than that. |
Hook stayed there for as long as she let him. He would be very happy when they got back home.
Tina didn't try to do anything else. She could tell he was tense and not willing to do anything else for now, so she didn't push. |
Rachel was more than willing to stay like that with Killian. She felt safer with him there, and she liked being held close.
Gold rolled his eyes at the two. "At least they aren't as bad as Snow White and her Prince," he murmured, tending the fire. |
Tina chuckled quietly. "They were worse?" she guessed quietly. "Even more lovey-dovey?"
|
"Disgustingly so," Gold replied. "Although it helped me, I was able to add true love to my collection." He looked at Rachel and Hook speculatively. "And I'm once again in short supply."
|
Tina laughed quietly, though something in her chest twinged at the thought. "Well, you can always get a few more hairs from those two," she said.
|
"Perhaps," Gold said. His fingers tightened on hers briefly.
|
Tina didn't react to that other than briefly leaning into his side.
|
Gold gave her a rather tender look, but not much more. They couldn't risk any more at the moment.
|
By morning time, Hook was starting to feel the stress. He hadn't seen anything yet, and it was making him edgy.
Fortunately, it didn't take much longer than morning for Cora to decide they needed a visit. So she made her way over to them. |
Gold could sense Cora approaching, and stood up. He faced her when she came out of the trees.
"I should have known," he said. "What could possibly have possessed you to come here, Cora?" |
