"It should work," Rachel agreed, nodding. She grinned. "Should help us get close enough for a dragon egg, at least."
Henry grinned at that. "When you get back you'll have to describe everything for me," he said. "I want to know."
"I will, I promise," Rachel said, nodding. "And hey, you have magic to study in the meantime, and I'm sure the crew will let you explore up on deck for a bit."
"Yeah. Think they'll let me climb up to the birds nest?" Henry grinned at that, kind of excited. It wasn't often he got to explore a pirate ship.
"You'll have to ask," Rachel said. "Run it by Killian before we go ashore. Do you know how to catch yourself with magic in case you fall?"
"Not yet? We haven't gone over that yet." Henry shrugged. "I figured we'd get to it eventually."
"Oh I know you will," Rachel said, nodding, "but it's probably not a good idea to go climbing the rigging if you don't know how to catch yourself yet."
"Alright," Henry agreed reluctantly. "Next time, then."
"Maybe once we get back on the ship," Rachel suggested. "On the way back to port, I'll teach you the magic, and we'll see about getting you permission to climb around. Sound good?"
"Definitely." Henry grinned and contented himself with the moment with learning about weather magic.
"Awesome," Rachel said. With that, she settled in to go over her spellwork one more time and wait for the ship to get to the dragon islands.
Once the ship was where it needed to be, Hook went down below to collect the two.
"There you are, love." He grinned a bit when he saw them. |
Rachel grinned when she saw him, and got up from where she was sitting.
"I take it we're there?" she asked, gathering up her spell prep. |
"Aye. We're just off the island." Hook looked at her with a little grin. "Ready?"
"Ready when you are," Rachel said, smiling a bit. "Let's go find some dragons."
Hook chuckled a little at that but moved close to her so she could magic them onto the island, looping one arm around her waist.
Rachel grinned when he put an arm around her waist, and she gave him a quick kiss before transporting them to the island.
Hook looked around. No sign of dragons yet. Good. He let go of her, in case they had to move, but he did stick close as he headed towards the center of the island, where the nest was most likely to be.
It turned out that stealing a dragon egg was a lot more complicated than they had initially assumed. Three raided nests, five spells, one lost hook, and an unexpected tag-along later, Rachel and Killian were back on the ship. Rachel was exhausted and slightly singed, and the pack she had slung over her shoulder was squirming oddly.
Hook looked just as exhausted as Rachel did. But pleased, too.
"Well, that wasn't terrible," he said. |
"Could have gone a lot worse," Rachel agreed. She grimaced a bit. "I'm going to go settle the egg and then maybe collapse. That sounds like a great idea."
"It does," Hook agreed mildly. "I'll meet you back in our room." He went to go tell the first mate to head back for shore, quick as possible, just in case.
"Alright," Rachel said. She gave him a quick kiss and then headed back down below. She paused when she got down there, glancing around for Henry.
Henry had found a comfortable place to study, and was more than half way through the book. The concepts weren't taking him long, after all, but he knew the practice would be harder.
"There you are," Rachel said when she found him. Without missing a beat, she reached into her bag and pulled out the squirming thing: a small winged lizard about the size of a cat. "Here. Have a pet. Take good care of it."
