"Mom," Henry said, blinking. He hadn't expected her to be there. "I thought you were up at the castle. What're you doing here?"
"You vanished, Henry," Emma said. "You've been gone for days. I was yelling at Gold to find you again when he said you were here."
"Mom, I was fine," Henry insisted. He grinned. "Captain Hook let me stay on the Jolly Rodger."
"And how did you get there in the first place?" Emma asked, frowning. She glanced at Hook but didn't seem upset. Yet.
"Oh. That." Henry's bright grin faded. "Magic." Before Emma could comment (because he knew she would), he continued, "Dad and Grandpa Gold were fighting again. They went into another room, but I knew they were arguing. And I just... didn't want to be there anymore. And suddenly I wasn't."
Emma eyed him, trying to figure out if it was his fault or outside interference, but then she nodded. "Alright. Come on, kid, let's head back to Gold's for now. If this is going to be a talent of yours, I'd rather have you practice so you don't vanish for a week."
Henry nodded, grinning again as they started walking towards Gold's little castle.
"Alright," he said. "What about you, Mom? You're still taking lessons too, right?" Rachel followed along behind them, though not close enough to be really following-following. She stayed close to Killian. "Now we just give the dragon egg to Tina and Gold, and we can be on our way," she said softly to him. |
"Yeah," Emma said. "We had one lesson while you were gone." And that one had been cut short because her temper had been too short, but she didn't mention that little fact.
"Indeed," Hook murmured. "Should be fun." |
"Cool," Henry said. "Rapunzel taught me some things while I was on the ship, it was great."
"Good, at least you had fun." Emma blinked when she suddenly noticed the lizard. "Henry. What is that?"
Henry blinked, and then realized what she was talking about.
"Oh," he said, "Rapunzel said it followed her back from the dragon island, and she didn't want it, so she gave it to me." He looked at her. "So... can I keep it?" |
Emma looked at him, looked at the fire lizard, and then looked back at Rachel with a look that quite clearly said "WHY" and "traitor". But after a moment she nodded.
"I suppose it's too late to take it back," she muttered. |
Rachel grimaced a bit and mouthed "Sorry" to Emma.
"I promise I'll take care of it," Henry pressed, turning the puppy dog eyes on Emma. |
"Fine," Emma said. "But it's yours, kid. That means you do take care of it, alright?"
"I will!" Henry said, nodding quickly. He beamed and hugged Emma. "Thanks, Mom!"
Emma huffed but hugged him back. "C'mon, kid, let's go check in with Gold," she said, moving along towards the castle again.
"Alright," Henry said, still grinning.
Gold was keeping track of them through the wards, waiting for them to come back inside. He was relaxing slightly, now that he knew Henry was back and alright. He wasn't thrilled with the pirate showing up, but he would put up with that for a little while. |
Emma just let them all in, because she knew it was okay to do so.
"There you all are," Tina said. She was definitely showing now. "Took you long enough." She grinned a bit as she walked over to give everyone hugs. |
Rachel grinned as she slipped past Emma and Henry. Emma just let her, steering Henry off into another room so Neil could give the lecture he'd been sitting on for nearly a week.
"Look at you," she said, grinning. "You definitely look pregnant now. How are you holding up?" |
"Fine so far," Tina said, making a bit of a face. "I don't feel too big yet, which is good. The mood swings also aren't very bad yet, even Gold has admitted that."
"That's good," Rachel said. "Is it kicking much?"
"No, not too bad yet." Tina smiled indulgently. "I suspect he or she will soon, though."
"Well, I brought back that thing you wanted," Rachel said, grinning. She took her bag off her back and opened it. Reaching inside, she pulled out a pale, iridescent green egg roughly the size of a watermelon. The surface was oddly textured, like ripples.
"You are amazing," Tina said with a huge grin, touching the egg gently. "Thank you. I started a goody bag as soon as you crossed the wards."
"I told you I'd get you one," Rachel said, holding the egg carefully. It was warm, radiating gentle heat from the inside. "Though Killian was a huge help in getting it."
