Gold, although he didn't leave the shop, made sure to keep an eye on Tina through the window. He didn't want anything happening to her when she was so obviously close to getting her memory back.
Tina stayed sitting outside for a while before she got up and headed back to Granny's so she could go lay down for a bit. She pulled out her phone to text Rachel and keep her up to date.
Gold still has the hair set. And man I keep having almost-sort-of flashbacks in that shop. Think I need to go lay down. |
I'm almost thinking I should stop in there, Rachel mused. You go lay down. I'll let you know where I end up. With that, she slipped her phone into her pocket and headed away from the docks, towards the pawn shop.
Tina got back to the room and sighed, settling down to lay down for a while. Although she didn't sleep, she did get a few more bits and pieces back, enough to get her that much closer to remembering.
Rachel fought with herself for a moment before she finally went into the pawn shop. It was just as cluttered and dimly-lit as the last time she was there, and it still had that atmosphere of vague tension that made the hairs on her neck stand up. But if Tina said that things in the shop were triggering more of the weird memories, Rachel wanted to see if they would trigger anything for her.
Let me know if anything happens, Tina texted her after giving her a little bit to get over to the pawn shop. And be nice to Mr. Gold. He's not a bad guy, just a bit creepy sometimes.
I'll be nice, promise. With that, Rachel slipped her phone back into her pocket.
"Ah, welcome back," Gold greeted when he saw her walk in. Rachel jumped slightly but looked over at him. "Thanks," she said, slightly uneasy. "Can I help you find anything?" "Just looking," Rachel replied. Cautiously, she walked around until she came upon the silver set she'd seen before. Before she realized it, she'd touched it. "Your hair is so pretty! I wish mine would get that long." "Yeah, but it's kind of a pain sometimes." "This is why you have me, remember?" Rachel pulled back her hand as if she'd been burned and took a step back. That had been really strange. |
Red had seen Rachel go into Gold's shop, and she moved over across the street but stayed outside the shop for now. Rachel looked like she was confused by something. And then it dawned on her. Rachel was looking at the hair set, and might be regaining her memories. Red had to grin at that.
After the thing with the hair set, Rachel didn't want to stay in the shop anymore and quickly left again. She jumped when she almost ran into the waitress from the diner.
"S-sorry," she said. |
"No problem. You okay? You look a little spooked." Red looked at her, concerned. "Come on, why don't we go have a cup of hot cocoa?"
"I'm not-- I mean--" Rachel took a breath. "Yeah. Cocoa sounds good." She nodded a bit, although she was still a little jumpy.
"So what's going on?" Red asked once they were in the diner with two cups of cocoa. "Is everything okay? Gold's not pestering you or anything is he?"
"No, it's not like that," Rachel replied. She wrapped her hands around the warm mug. "I dunno, I kinda feel like I'm going crazy or something. I keep... I dunno, remembering things? That's as close as I can really describe it." She shook her head. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be unloading on you like this."
"It's fine," Red assured her "Besides, who knows? Maybe you're not going crazy." She smiled reassuringly. "Just try to relax and don't worry about it."
"Ugh, I don't know," Rachel sighed, taking a sip of the hot chocolate. "Maybe I'm just remembering something I dreamed."
"It's possible. But I bet if you worry about it, the memories won't come. Just try and relax, everything will work out." Red smiled before taking a sip of her own hot cocoa. "And you can always come here and talk to me. I don't mind."
"Memories?" Rachel looked at her. "Like more than one?" She cut herself off there. Somehow, it felt like the whole town knew more than they were saying.
Red shrugged. "You said earlier it was like you were remembering things. I assumed it was more than one memory." And whoops, that had been a little close.
"I'm... not sure," Rachel admitted. "It seems like different things, but it seems like the same person each time."
Rachel nodded. "Well, like I said, I doubt worrying about it will help. Finish your hot cocoa, and then maybe go take a nap? That might help. You never know."
"Yeah, maybe," Rachel said. "A nap might help. Tina should be there, anyways."
Red nodded and stood. "That one's on me. And go sleep once you're done." She smiled before getting back to work, already planning on calling Snow to let her know that Rapunzel at least was getting some of her memories back.
"Thanks, Red," Rachel replied without thinking. She quickly finished her cocoa and set the mug down.
Red blinked and watched her go with a little grin. They were definitely getting their memories back. It was a good sign.
Tina was still awake when Rachel got back, sitting on her bed staring out the window at the forest. |
Rachel walked into the room quietly.
"There might be something to this whole thing," she said quietly, sitting on the bed. |
