"Alright. Thanks." Tina watched him go, undeniably curious, before she shook herself and went back to examining the flowers. They came in a variety of types and colors, and all of them were accurate. She kind of wanted to touch them, even though she knew they were glass.
Rachel was already examining the silver hair set. Gently, she picked up the mirror. The handle fit snugly into her hand and she brought the glass up to look into it. For the briefest moment, her reflection seemed to change slightly: different hairstyle, different clothes, different jewelry. It was there for only the most fleeting instant, and then her reflection was back to normal. She blinked, shook her head, and put the mirror down.
Tina managed to shake off the odd feeling and looked around the rest of the shop.
"Still sure about not buying anything?" she asked, moving over to Rachel. |
"I don't know," Rachel admitted after a moment. "There's just... something. This place gives me the creeps, kind of."
"Kind of like you know some of the things here?" Tina frowned a little. "Yeah, I got that feeling too. It's kind of odd, huh?"
"Yeah," Rachel replied. She shivered briefly. "Kind of creepy."
"Kind of," Tina agreed, although she had to admit she was very curious now. She wanted to know why this place almost felt familiar.
Rachel shook her head and turned towards the door.
"Come on," she said, "this places gives me the heebie-jeebies. Let's go walk around town some more." |
Tina nodded after a moment and followed her outside.
"So, where shall we explore next?" |
"I dunno," Rachel replied, glancing around. "the place seems like a pretty small town, what could be here?"
Tina shrugged. "We could just look around," she said. "Or we could go hiking in the woods. There are plenty of those around here. I bet they have some gorgeous hiking trails."
"Let's walk around a bit," Rachel said. "See what we can find in town before we go wandering in the woods." Because she wasn't really one for hiking, and something like walking around town was far more appealing.
Tina shrugged. She'd always liked being out in nature, but that was just her. So she let Rachel dictate where they went, just following along behind her.
Rachel wandered about town for a while, becoming increasingly aware of the strange looks they were getting.
"Are people still staring at us?" she asked Tina quietly. |
"Yup. Yup, still looks that way." Tina frowned as she passed the group of dwarves, who all watched them go. "This is kind of creepy."
"It's like there's some big thing we're not in on," Rachel said. She played with the end of of her braid a bit.
Tina nodded. "I don't think I like it," she muttered. "Maybe we could ask someone about it?" If they came across someone who didn't look at them like that.
"I'm tempted," Rachel replied quietly. The looks and whispers were a bit unnerving.
Tina nodded, but she was saved the trouble when a boy walked over to them.
Henry blinked at the two before he smiled. "Oh, hi, Rapunzel. When did you get here?" |
Rachel blinked down at the boy. He couldn't be more than ten or eleven, and he was beaming up at her with the most innocent confidence she'd ever seen.
"I'm sorry," she said, "but do I know you?" |
Henry blinked. "I... guess not. But you don't remember? You don't know anyone here?" Because both girls looked too confused to know where they were and what was going on. Which was just really odd.
Rachel shook her head slowly.
"No?" she replied. "Tina and I are just passing through town." She paused for a moment. "Am I like missing some joke here?" She glanced at Tina, and then at some of their 'watchers,' and then back at the kid. |
"No," Henry said slowly. "Huh. I think you guys should stick around for a few days. We need to talk to someone." Because it might be a good idea to talk to James if they didn't remember anything.
Rachel just raised an eyebrow slightly at that.
"We... aren't planning on staying more than a day or two," she said finally. "We have other places to be soon." |
"Oh." Henry looked disappointed. "Only a day or two?" That wasn't right. That couldn't be right.
"We're just passing through," Tina spoke up. "We're on a roadtrip. This is just a stop." |
