"Good plan," Rachel said, grinning as well. "Salads first, then whatever pastry I touch first."
Tina snickered and worked on making the salad before setting the bowl out and then working on making the dough for the cherry tartlets. Those wouldn't take long to make after lunch.
After lunch, after the baking was done, Rachel headed out to the library. May as well spend part of her day there, if Tina wasn't going to be around.
Tina made a little bag to take to Gold and made her way down to his shop, slowing some when she noticed more people than usual out and about.
Gold noticed that there were more people than usual out and about, and was keeping an eye on them. Crowds usually meant that the people in town were itching for someone to harass.
Rachel noticed, as well, and hurried to the library. She had a Pirates DVD to donate, anyways. |
So, naturally, Tina got picked as the best target. A group of four men blocked her path, getting in her way so she couldn't get to Gold's shop.
"Going somewhere?" one of them asked. Tina tensed, glancing around quickly. There was an alley a few yards back, she could sprint there and run off into the woods and vanish quickly enough. "Y'know, some of us were wondering why you'd side with him," one of them said, his eyes narrowing. "Makes us wonder about you." Tina still said nothing, just taking a step back from the group. |
Gold noticed that a bit of a group was forming, and stepped outside the door of his shop. Now that he had a better view, he could see Tina in the middle of the group, looking uneasy, and that just wasn't right. So he made his way over to the group quietly.
"Are these gentlemen bothering you, Tina?" he asked as he got over there. |
"No," Tina said carefully. "Just stopping to say hi, I'm sure." She shifted nervously, her gaze still darting around to find the best escape route.
"Why would we be bothering your little girlfriend, Gold?" one of the men asked, too innocent. |
"Many reasons, I suspect," Gold replied. "Although I'm certain it won't happen again." The underlying threat was clear as his gaze shifted between all of them.
The men backed off a bit, not quite willing to go after Gold themselves, before they moved on down the street.
Tina was still stiff and tense. "I could have handled it," she mumbled, not looking at him. |
"I don't doubt it," Gold replied. "But I think it was a bit easier for me to handle it for you." He gestured down the street. "Feel free to carry on."
"I was heading to your shop anyway," Tina said after a moment. Here, I brought you some goodies." She pushed the bag of treats at him.
Gold blinked. He hadn't been expecting that.
"Let me escort you, then," he said, taking the bag and gesturing to his shop. |
Tina nodded, letting him, and moved into the shop. She was still comfortable in there, even now.
"I figured we could finish our discussion and possibly hash things out." |
"Well, then, it's a good thing you came to my shop," Gold replied as he set the bag of goodies on the counter. "It was brought to my attention that I may have been a bit... unfair to you."
"Rachel mentioned she came here yesterday," Tina said mildly, though she was watching him carefully.
"Indeed she did," Gold replied. "And I'm sure you noticed that she returned home as whole and healthy as when she arrived." Of course, he knew what Tina was really talking about, but still. Habits were hard to break.
"And with a few new memories to boot, Rumplestiltskin," Tina added, her voice still pleasant while she waited to see if she'd have to bolt out of the shop or not.
Gold's expression hardened a bit.
"Who told you?" he asked mildly. "Or did you simply remember on your own?" |
"Rachel told me, and then I remembered a few things." Tina looked at him. "And no, I'm still not running. Not unless you decide I would make good target practice, anyway."
"I'm not as good a man as you seem to want to believe," Gold informed her pulling over a chair and sitting down so he didn't have to stand on his bad leg. "Keeping your friend in a tower is the least of my... deeds."
"I gathered," Tina said dryly, moving briefly to grab her own chair. "Besides, you're still not setting off my bad-person radar. Notice I'm not carrying my flashlight."
"Duly noted," Gold replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.
Tina snorted after a minute and got up, tossing the bag of goodies to him. "Have a cookie. I still want to strangle you, just a little bit."
"In this town, that isn't an unusual urge, I find," Gold said dryly. "Although I will admit that I may have been unfair to you before, and for that you have my apologies."
