Rachel glanced briefly at the list, skimming the contents. She stopped when she saw one particular thing.
"The drop-spindle," she said after a moment. A memory flashed in front of her eyes; of her learning how to spin thread on a drop spindle and watching the thread turn into gold. "Yeah," she said when the memory faded. "The drop-spindle." |
"Sure. Anything else, or is that it for now?" Tina looked at her, raising an eyebrow.
Rachel thought about that for a moment.
"If... If that quilt is still there," she ventured after a moment. "You know the one, with the roses and the gold thread and the blue. The one I made." She hesitated. "If it's there, that too?" |
"Of course." Tina smiled a little. "I'll see if I can find it, and I'll be back in a few days with your things. Oh, I did bring you some pastries, too."
"Thanks," Rachel replied, grinning. "Your pastries are the best."
"My pleasure." Tina grinned. "I'll bring you more in a few days. Long as I get let out of the castle, anyway." She paused briefly. "And it still feels odd saying I live in a castle now."
Rachel grinned.
"Better than saying you live in a tower," she pointed out. "Or that you rent an apartment on South Main." |
Tina chuckled. "True," she said quietly. "Better than saying I live on a boat, too." She grinned teasingly.
"Hush," Rachel said, grinning a bit. "Go on back to your castle and your garden."
Tina snickered and headed back to Gold, still grinning.
"Ready to go?" she asked him, absently checking her pockets to make sure the clippings were still fine. |
Gold nodded.
"Very much so," he said. |
Tina smiled a little. "Let's head back, then. We can detour on the way back so I can grab a few more clippings."
Gold smiled slightly at her and nodded, gesturing for her to go first.
Tina picked up more clippings on the way back and was quite happy to spend the remains of the afternoon in the greenhouse, humming to herself as she planted the clippings, keeping them carefully arranged.
Gold watched her work before disappearing into his 'workshop for a moment, coming back with a few things. Going into the greenhouse, he set a trio of tiny, sparkling seeds on the table next to her.
"Here," he said. "See if you can get these to grow." |
Tina blinked at the seeds, touching them gently. "What are they?" she asked quietly. She could tell they would grow fine in the right conditions, but she had to be sure to plant them in the right spot.
"You'll find out, if you can get them to grow," Gold replied. "I'm sure you'll like them."
"At least give me a hint. Flowers, vines, bush, what?" Tina pouted at him. "I have to know where to plant them."
"Well, that's the trick of it," Gold replied with a faint smile. "They'll grow according to where you plant them."
Tina huffed, looking at the little seeds speculatively before she picked a spot a little separated from the rest of the plants, planting the seeds carefully before brushing her hands off.
"Well, we'll find out in a few weeks." |
"Indeed," Gold replied. "Take good care of them."
"I will." Tina smiled a little, getting up and going back over to him. "I think I'm done for now."
"Alright," Gold said. "Well, the greenhouse is here for you, so you're welcome to be out here any time you like."
"Meaning probably most afternoons." Tina smiled a little and took his hand. "I appreciate this. Plus this way I don't have to bother you when you're working."
"You don't bother me," Gold replied. "But I'm glad you like the greenhouse."
