"No problem." Tina grinned and started walking. "So, do you want to go along the coast or go inland? Either way is fine with me."
"I'm following you," Rachel said. "My only request is that we make it back here in a few days."
"Not a problem, I promised Gold I'd be back in a few days anyway." Tina started walking, following the coast for now.
"Great," Rachel said, following her friend.
The first day passed without any major events, and Tina expected that to continue. Which is why, mid-way through the second day, she was so surprised to find someone else there, a man dragging a little boat up onto the sand so it wouldn't drift away.
Rachel blinked when she saw the man dragging his boat to shore.
"I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's not typical," she said to Tina. |
"No, not really," Tina murmured, looking at the man, her eyes narrowed a bit. "Stay here." She approached slowly, looking at the man.
"Need some help?" |
"No, I think I've got this," the man replied as he secured his little boat on the shore. "What of yourself? A pair of pretty girls like you wandering about and all."
"We're fine, we're just out for a walk," Tina said, a little hesitant to tell him the truth. "Just wanted to make sure you aren't lost or anything. You're not, are you? Lost I mean."
"Well, aren't we all?" the man asked, raising an eyebrow. He smirked. "Really, though, I'm pretty sure I know where I am. I definitely know where I'm not, and that's the more important detail at the moment."
Tina snorted. "Yeah, it's a little different being dumped here after Storybrooke or Manhattan or Los Angeles, huh?"
"No kidding," the man said. He grinned a bit. "The name's Neil, by the way."
"Tina. I'm Tina, and that's my friend Rachel." Tina grinned at him. "Where were you coming from, by the way? I didn't think there was anything out there."
"Not on any map, there isn't," Neil confirmed, grinning a bit. "Pleasure to meet you both, by the way. But yeah, there's a little island out there. Not far, really."
"Huh, never knew that." Tina blinked, looking off out at the ocean. "Nice to meet you too. I don't know if you have plans, but I know there's a town inland a little ways if you need somewhere to stay."
"A town?" Neil asked. He considered it for a moment. He hadn't heard of any town nearby, although he supposed that a lot could have changed since he was fourteen. He shrugs and flashes the girls a smile. "Sure. Why not?"
Tina nodded. "Should only take us another day to get there," she said, glancing up at the sun briefly. "If we don't dawdle."
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Neil asked, grinning. He gestured for the girls to go first.
Tina grinned briefly and moved over to Rachel.
"We're going to escort him back to the town, the one the others are setting up, and then we'll head back to the ship." |
Rachel nodded.
"Sounds like a plan to me," she said. She couldn't help but glance at Neil a few times. Something about him seemed sort of familiar, but she had no idea what, so she didn't say anything for the moment. |
Not even an hour later, Tina glanced back at Neil. The same familiar feeling had been nagging her, too.
"You seem awfully familiar. Have we met somewhere before?" |
"Can't say that we have," Neil replied easily. He was certain he'd never met them before; he'd spent the last thirty years avoiding anything and everything to do with magic and this world.
"Still. You look familiar. Maybe we have a mutual friend or something?" Tina looked at him, tilting her head to the side as she tried to figure it out.
"I really doubt it," Neil said, shaking his head. "I've been... out of touch for a while. I really doubt we know any of the same people."
"Alright." Tina left it alone for a while, though she still snuck glances at him, trying to figure out who he looked like.
Then it hit her and she looked at Rachel. "He looks like Gold," she murmured. |
