Rachel blinked and glanced at Neil again. She did a double-take.
"You're right," she murmured back. "He does, kind of." |
Tina looked at Niel again and then actually stopped.
"You know," she said quietly to Rachel, "Gold mentioned he had a son. Before Storybrooke and all of this." |
"He did?" Rachel asked. Somehow, that didn't seem strange; maybe she heard him mention it before, and didn't remember well enough.
"Yeah. He said he was going to go look for him, once he got out of Storybrooke." Tina eyed Neil curiously. "I wonder..."
Rachel glanced at Neil.
"There's no way a coincidence that huge could exist," she protest. "Can't be." |
"You're right." Tina frowned briefly. She'd have to tell Gold when she got back to the castle.
"What're you two whispering about?" Neil asked, glancing back at them. "Sounds interesting."
"Sorry," Tina said with a rueful little grin. "We were just saying you look like someone we know. A friend of mine."
Neil raised an eyebrow.
"Really?" he asked. "That's interesting, who?" |
"Rumplestiltskin." Tina looked at him to see if he had any reaction to that name.
Neil couldn't help it, he paled and flinched. He stopped in his tracks.
"You know him?" he asked carefully. |
Tina noticed him go pale and she almost grimaced. Whoops. Looked like they weren't exactly on good terms.
"Yeah," she said carefully. "I know him." |
"Then this is where we part ways," Neil said, immediately veering away. Because he absolutely did not want anything to do with Rumplestiltskin.
"Hey wait a second!" Tina jogged a few steps after him. "I'm not taking you to him if that's what you're worried about. I wouldn't do that. I swear, I'm just taking you to the town, and he's not interested in the town."
"I have not spent the last thirty years avoiding him to risk that now," Neil called back. "Thanks, but no thanks. I'll take my chances with the ogres."
Tina huffed, looking after him with annoyance. Well, that was the last time she tried to be nice and help a random stranger.
Rachel watched after him, and then narrowed her eyes a bit and went after him.
"Wait a second," she called. "Hold on. At least tell us your real name before you vanish." |
"Does it matter?" Neil asked, turning to look at her. "I haven't been him in a very long time."
"As someone who doesn't even remember who she was, I like to know who people really are," Rachel replied. "Or were, if that's the case."
Neil was silent for a moment. "Baelfire," he finally admitted grudgingly. "I was Baelfire."
Rachel blinked. That name seemed familiar, but she had no idea where she would have heard it.
"My name was Rapunzel," she said in return. "I go by Rachel now, though." |
"Well, no offense, but I hope I don't see you again." Neil turned and headed off into the woods again.
Rachel watched him go, and then went back over to Tina.
"He said his name was Baelfire," she said. "Does that mean anything to you?" |
Tina nodded, watching him go. "He is Gold's son," she said quietly, frowning a bit. Now she had to decide whether or not to tell Gold.
Rachel blinked.
"I can't even imagine how long those odds are," she said. "There are no words for those kinds of odds." |
