Gold just settled in, although he was a bit on-edge and twitchy. He wasn't going to relax, not until they found Baelfire, at least.
Tina noticed but didn't say anything, just cooking some dinner for them silently before she settled in for the night.
Gold didn't sleep much that night, and was up early the next morning. He tried not to rush Tina, but he wanted to get moving again before Baelfire got any further away.
Tina noted his impatience and got up as quickly as she could so they could get going again.
The next few days passed in that manner until Tina finally caught sight of Baelfire up ahead. "I see him," she said calmly. |
Gold scanned the area ahead visually and finally caught sight of a lone person ahead.
"As do I," he said. He hesitated briefly. He would never be able to catch Baelfire if the young man decided to run. |
"Need me to run him down?" Tina asked quietly, looking at him. Because that was one thing she could do.
"Not yet," Gold replied, just as quietly. "Let me try to talk to him, first." With that, he made his way steadily over to where Baelfire was.
Baelfire saw him and tensed, debating for a few moments, before he took off. He hadn't been kidding when he said he'd wanted to stay away from Rumplestiltskin.
Tina grumped and took off after him, passing Gold easily and working to try to catch up to Baelfire. |
Gold followed more sedately, although it was as quick as he could manage.
Baelfire darted through the trees nimbly, doing his absolute best to outrun the girl chasing him. |
Tina was better at tree-dodging, and she took the high ground to try to catch up to him and get a better spot from which to tackle him. She hissed when something sliced her leg but she didn't pay any mind to it, yet.
Baelfire noticed pretty quick she wasn't following him, and slowed for a moment to look around. He wasn't sure where she went, but he turned and picked up the pace again.
Tina took his momentary slow down to catch up to him and then jump at him from above, sending them both rolling. She landed a few feet away and groaned, struggling to get to her feet again.
Baelfire landed hard on the ground and it knocked the wind from him. He worked his way to his feet, wheezing.
Tina groaned as she got to her feet, though she shifted her weight off her injured leg.
"Please don't make me run anymore," she said, still panting a bit. |
"Why are you chasing me in the first place?" Baelfire asked warily. "I told you I didn't want to see him again."
"And he just wants to talk to you." Tina looked down at her leg and grimaced, covering the cut with her hand. "Just talk to him. Please."
"There's nothing to say," Baelfire said stubbornly.
"He's going to keep going after you until you talk," Tina said, shaking her head. She was starting to feel dizzy and a little cold, but she was busy ignoring it and trying to get Baelfire to talk.
Baelfire saw the state she was in and sighed. Kneeling down, he tore off part of his shirt to bind the cut, and then helped her up.
"Come on," he said. "I should get you back to be taken care of." Even if it meant facing Rumplestiltskin. Baelfire wasn't heartless, after all, he wouldn't leave the girl to die if he could help it. |
Tina blinked at that but let him help her up, making her way back to Gold.
"Thanks," she said quietly. "For not leaving me there." |
"You deserve better than that, I'm sure," Baelfire said, helping her limp along.
Tina couldn't help but relax a bit when they finally got back to Gold.
"Both of you play nice," she ordered, finding a rock to sit on and grimacing. |
"Tina, what happened?" Gold asked when he saw her. He went over to her, leaning his walking stick against a tree and kneeling down. His eyes narrowed when he saw her injury. "Where did you get this?" Taking off the makeshift bandage, he carefully moved his hand over the cut and used some magic to heal it.
"Some bush tried to grab me while I was running," Tina said with a shrug, giving him room to work. "Not a big deal, it's just a cut."
Now she just had to hope it wasn't one of the few poisonous thorned bushes in the area. |
"It's deep," Gold replied. Once he finished healing it, he turned slowly to Baelfire.
