He liked to keep others at a bit of a distance, knowing that his strange, ironic hobbies were not everyone's cup of tea. He had his brother and they lived in a small house at the end of their street. The summer had come, and while most kids were out swimming and having Popsicles, Dirk and Dave stayed in their house. The two had their online friends, and so the need for real ones really wasn't there. The hot weather was unpleasant anyway, and neither boy wanted to ruin their almost albino completion. And it wasn't really that they were snobby or anything. it was just that they liked to do their own thing and they had no one else to do things with. Not to mention that with no real parents, they had awful social skills. They had a mom and a dad, the only problem was that they were gone all the time with work, traveling all over the world while Dirk and Dave suffered, eating meals that consisted mostly of junk food and watching crazy amounts of tv. The rest of their time was spent on the computer or sleeping. Or in Dirk's case, sometimes puppets. |

Moving to the states was a topic he had been excited about for a long time. He'd muse to his online friends about all of the possibilities of new sites and adventures. Most people would think him crazy about being so giddy to move countries in the middle of high school, but it probably couldn't be better for him. He'd hoped maybe it wouldn't be quite as boring as it was before, living in a small house in the middle of nowhere. Even if he seemed optimistic, he really was bored of watching movies all day long. Jake English is the kind of guy for adventure. Fisticuffs and the likes. Maybe this would be the place to find it. Or at least it would be a start. Plus it's not like there were many people he'd miss from England. Not that there were any at all. He had his grandma with him and that's all he ever needed. However, he had to admit the reason responsible for most of his enthusiasm was the thought of meeting his best bro. Finally meeting him in person! He knew Dirk lived here and the very thought of seeing him for the first time brought renewed excitement. Though with the size of this state he really could be hours away...He better put aside any thoughts of meeting anyone for now. Jake wiped the beads of sweat away from his brow. Dirk grabbed his laptop, finished with the show he'd be previously watching. His friend from online was moving to Texas, and Dirk was pretty sure today was his arrival day. He smiled and decided a good chat was in order. Once the computer was on, he pulled up pesterchum to pester Jake English.

Jake threw himself on his mattress. The bed hadn’t actually been assembled yet but it was just as comfortable. He closed his eyes for a moment and thoughts drifted from what would be for dinner tonight to- yet again- his friend Dirk. He decided to pull out his laptop to see if by any chance Dirk had been thinking of him as well.
He yawned as a soft hum brought the laptop to life. Apparently he had. With Pesterchum pulled up, he immediately saw text of familiar orange on his screen. Suddenly Jake didn’t feel so exhausted. For hours he had no one to talk to but his grandma. Though he of course appreciated her company, the exhausting journey to the US had called for a bit more than a spectacularly goofy grandmother. Ok it wasn’t all that bad but it sure was nice to see that text! GT: Arrived and partially moved in! GT: There are a few things needed taking care of and it sure has been a doozy of a day but in the meantime im chipper as can be! He smiled as he typed, wondering what this Strider fellow might be up to. GT: Whats the strider been up to? GT: Watch any interesting movies lately? |
Dirk jumped at the sound of his computer going off, excited that he'd gotten a message back.
[tt]: just chillin now. [tt]: you like Texas so far? He had a smile lining his face, though if ever interrogated about the subject, he'd never admit it. Cool kids didn't get this excited about talking to someone. Of coarse not. He grabbed some apple juice that was laying around, figuring he'd have a drink since it was there and he was thirsty. |
GT: Well i cant say ive had much of an experience yet to tell! GT: Right now theres not much to do...maybe ill take a walk. GT: It looks nice out and i think i may actually enjoy the heat? GT: Gadzooks that HEAT! A nice walk did sound good. A nice, leisurely stroll through the neighborhood. It could be a great chance for some adventure. More adventure than sitting on your bum anyway. |
He sighed a little.
