"Nothing specific yet, unfortunately," Bruce replied, handing her a tissue. "I'm waiting on some sample results to come back."
Maeve nodded and gestured to her pokemon to follow. Then she went after Tony, jogging a bit to keep up. |
Julie sighed and nodded, sniffling a few times. "Well, is there anything you need to do? Apparently I'm your assistant or something now."
Tony went down to a different lab where he gathered up parts and went back to making a new one. Ninetails found them after only a few minutes, moving into the lab and sitting to watch Tony work. |
"I'm not used to having an assistant, I'm afraid," Bruce said. "And I mentioned that today was kind of boring, right?"
Maeve blinked when she saw Ninetails. "I guess it's true when people say Ninetails are all kinds of pretty up close," she commented. |
"Yeah, you did. That's okay." Julie shrugged. "I guess I'm just not used to not doing something work-related all the time."
Ninetails preened, fluffing out his tails a bit and stretching his chin up. "Oh don't say that, you'll inflate his ego even more and then I'll never hear the end of it." Tony shot his pokemon a look that the fox studiously ignored. |
"I won't tell if you won't," Bruce offered with a grin.
Maeve shrugged and grinned. "Can't help it if it's mostly true," she said. |
Julie laughed quietly. "Well, since we're not working on stuff for Stark, how about we work on some of these diagrams for the pokemon between you and Tony. Can't hurt, right?"
Tony rolled his eyes but didn't say anything, just muttering to himself while Ninetails continued preening. |
"Sounds like a good idea to me," Bruce replied. He gestured to the table in a 'ladies first' way.
Maeve rolled her eyes, but settled in to watch Tony work. |
Julie picked a spot and sat down, pulling over one diagram for them to work on. It was surprisingly easy to work with him.
Tony was mostly quiet, occasionally getting her to grab something for him (because he was lazy) or asking her opinion about seemingly random things. Because clearly this project wasn't taking up all of his attention. |
"So what's it like?" Maeve asked after a while of silence. She didn't mind silence, really, but she was a little bored now.
|
"Hmm?" Tony glanced back at her, having already made a new device and gone on to tinker with a few of his other ideas. "I need a little more to go off of."
|
"Being a superhero," Maeve clarified. "Sorry. Used to being around psychic-types, they usually know what I'm thinking."
|
Tony snorted. "Interesting," he said after a few moments. "Busy. Lots of fanmail, I mean, you wouldn't believe how much mail I get, and half of it is packages. Really, people, sending me cookies through the US Postal Service is not a good idea, on what planet is that a good idea, sending perishables anywhere via mail?"
|
"They thought they were being nice," Maeve said, grinning. "Or trying to poison you, one of the two."
|
"Yeah, well, baked goods in cardboard boxes shipped across the country is really not a good thing." Tony shook his head.
|
"This is true," Maeve said, grinning. "But really, the fanmail is the most interesting part of being a superhero?"
|
"I never said that, did I?" Tony grinned. "There are other good parts. Like saving the world. And not getting killed in action."
|
Maeve grinned.
"Not getting killed is very good," she agreed. "But let's be honest, here, you just like flying around in the suit." |
"Who wouldn't? I have a metal suit that I built in which I can fly around New York, and I can go faster than most commercial jets." Tony smirked. "What's not to love?"
|
Maeve rolled her eyes.
"It can't be as much fun as it could be," she said. "You have to leave most of your pokemon behind when you fly in that thing." |
"Well technically speaking Rotom could come with me. And I'm still working on a way to get the others airborn." Tony grinned. Because he was crazy enough to make it work.
|
"Porygon likely could, too," Maeve said, "and Metagross, if there was sufficient metal around to use Magnet Rise. But that's not all of them."
|
"No, not quite. Like I said, I'm working on it. Besides, do you really want Metagross flying through New York city on his own?" Tony turned to raise an eyebrow at her.
|
"It could be worse," Maeve pointed out. "Metagross isn't the biggest thing out there. My brother has a Steelix he has to keep in a Heavy Ball because it's just so damn big it breaks regular pokeballs. Imagine that thing flying around out there."
|
Tony snorted. "That would be slightly terrifying," he agreed. "Has to keep it in a Heavy Ball, huh? I wonder..." Pulling up a new holographic screen, he started typing and playing with a design, muttering to himself.
|
"Yeah, Landslide is on the heavy side for a Steelix. He was even on the heavy end for an Onix, too. Why?" Maeve looked over his shoulder at the tablet, interested. "My brother likes steel-types, mostly, so he's got a Steelix, a Scizor, and a Magneton. He's a mechanic, so it kind of fits."
