"There's an Eevee lab one floor up, I think," Steve said with a little shrug. "I'm sure no one would mind if you went and visited them, at least. I didn't get Eevee until they had too many, so who knows? Maybe if they know you next time they have one too many eggs they'll call you up."
"A little part-time tech like me?" Maeve asked. She shook her head. "Yeah, no, not unless maybe the boss-man put in a good word for me. Eevees are rare and valuable, they don't just hand them out to anyone who asks."
Steve shrugged. He knew that they ended up with eggs fairly frequently (for Eevees anyway) and he knew that Tony was thinking of giving a few away so the lab didn't get crowded.
"I don't think I ever got your name," he realized, blinking down at her. |
"What?" Maeve blinked. "Oh! Sorry. I'm Maeve." She flushed a little. "Sorry. I have a bad habit of doing that. Talking to people without introducing myself, I mean." And now she was rambling. Wonderful.
"That's okay," Steve said with a little smile. "It's nice to meet you, Maeve. I'm Steve." Because while he was (sort of) used to being known as Captain America, he still liked to introduce himself.
"Nice to meet you, Steve," Maeve replied, grinning a bit. Then she thought of something. "You said you have an Eevee, right? Do you know if you're going to evolve it or not?"
Steve rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "No, I haven't decided yet. I figured I'd wait and see what happened."
Maeve grinned.
"Well, I'm not a TM specialist for nothing..." Going over to the shelves of TMs, she rooted through until she found one. "Aha! This one." She brought it over. "This is one I've heard a lot of Eevee owners saying they like." Holding up, she showed him the label, which read 'TM #30, Shadow Ball'. |
"Shadow Ball, huh? Never heard of it." Steve took it gingerly, looking it over before he shrugged. So far, Eevee hadn't really been trained, not like Braviary and Arcanine. But it was certainly something to keep in mind. "Thanks."
"It's good to teach Eevee things now, before it evolves, because it'll still know the techniques afterwards." Maeve grinned. "Things like Dig and Shadow Ball that they won't learn normally in any of the evolutions."
"If I end up evolving her," Steve said with a nod. "For now, she's fine as she is." He blinked when he heard something moving out in the corridor and turned to look. "Speaking of..."
An Eevee poked her head around the door, chirped happily when she saw Steve, and jumped up into his arms easily. |
Maeve couldn't help but squeal a little.
"Aww, she's adorable," she cooed. |
"Eevee, say hi." Steve moved his arm so Maeve could see better. Eevee chirped again and leaned forward, planting her feet so she wouldn't topple over.
"She is just the cutest thing," Maeve said as she held out her hand for the Eevee to investigate. Litwick trilled a bit and floated over, pouting. "Oh hush, you," Maeve added, using her other hand to wave her fingers through the little purple flame. "You're adorable too, and so is Ralts."
Steve chuckled. "She likes being the only girl in my group," he said with a little grin. "The others tend to dote on her." Eevee chirped and scrambled up onto his shoulder instead to get a better look around.
"Ah, the spoiled baby, then," Maeve teased. "I've seen that before."
Steve grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, I'm sure. At least she's not bad about it. Most of the time."
Maeve just grinned.
"I spoil both of mine," she admitted. "It's harder not to spoil them, when there are fewer in your group." |
"Especially when they're young," Steve agreed with a grin. He knew how hard it was to not spoil them, especially since he knew that even Clint and Natasha spoiled their pokemon on occasion.
Maeve nodded.
"Definitely," she said. She grinned and plucked Litwick out of the air and snuggled him, making the little ghost trill and giggle. |
Steve grinned briefly before turning when Tony entered the room. "There you are. What did you need me down here for?"
"Hmm? Oh, you know, research stuff." Tony waved a hand. "Keeping my techs entertained, all that good stuff." "Tony..." Steve rubbed his temples. |
"Welcome back, Mr. Stark," Maeve said. "I had a spare TM #30, I gave it to Captain Rodgers, as long as you don't mind."
"Course I don't mind. I've been trying to give him things since he moved in but he won't take them." Tony rolled his eyes. "By the way, where'd your friend get to? I wanted to test something with her Cyndaquil."
"She's not in the pokeball room?" Maeve asked. She thought for a moment. "Check the arena. Maybe she went down for a practice match or something." She looked at him curiously. "What do you need to test? If you need a fire-type, I have Litwick."
"It's more of a test course," Tony explained. "Your Litwick would probably just cheat and float through everything. Although I suppose Eevee would work..."
Steve just rolled his eyes at Tony. |
