"Yeah, Litwick isn't the best choice for an obstacle course," Maeve agreed. "Neither is Ralts, so I can't really help you."
|
"Yeah, fair enough. Come on, let's go find Julie and borrow her Cyndaquil. Coming, Cap? You could even race Eevee." Tony grinned, not really giving Steve an option as he herded the man out of the room and down towards the arena and the obstacle course.
|
Maeve hesitated for a moment as they left, and then quickly closed up the room behind her.
"Wait up!" she said grabbing her bag and Ralts and letting Litwick follow. |
Tony grinned and slowed down a bit, stopping once they were inside the correct room. A few trainers were down there, as well as some techs and other people. Julie was in the middle of checking a Pidgey's wing while another tech stood off to the side watching.
|
As soon as Maeve saw Julie, she went over to see what was going on.
"What's up?" she asked, kneeling down next to her friend. |
"He hurt his wing." Julie tested gently, expanding the wing and then folding it again carefully. "Looks like it's just a pulled muscle, though, nothing broken." Picking up the pokemon easily, she handed him back to his tech. "Just keep him grounded for a few days, give the wing a chance to recover, and he should be fine."
"Thanks," the tech said with a grin, nodding to her and moving out of the arena room, waving briefly to Tony and Steve as he left. |
Maeve grinned a bit.
"You're good at that, Jules," she said. |
Julie shrugged. "Hey, what can I say? I like making sure everything turns out okay."
"So, got a future vet on our hands?" Tony asked, having snuck up behind them. He snickered when Julie jumped. "Maybe. Haven't decided yet." Julie brushed herself off. |
"Now if only you could fix pollen allergies," Maeve commented as she helped Julie to her feet.
|
"Oh Bruce and I are already working on that," Tony said with a grin, a certain gleam in his eyes. "Why? Are either of you allergic?"
"Well I know I am, to grass types and pollen and stuff," Julie said, picking up Cyndaquil. "Why?" "Oh, no reason," Tony said, too innocent. |
"I just have spring allergies," Maeve said. "When pollen levels are high. Normal interaction with grass-types doesn't bother me much." She looked at Tony, trying to figure out what he was thinking without much success.
|
"Hmm." Tony grinned. "Hey, Julie, do me a favor and send Cyndaquil through that." He pointed out the obstacle course.
"Sure thing." Rolling her eyes, Julie ushered Cyndaquil through while Tony texted Bruce. Brucie, I found test subjects for us! |
Tony, I won't accept anyone you've bribed or strong-armed into testing. Bruce was certain Tony would hear the dry tone in the words.
|
They're already employees here, they work in R&D. Come on, I'll bring them up and you can explain everything to them. Tony was going to bring them up anyway, and he knew Bruce knew that, so really he was just being nice.
|
Bruce sighed. He knew how Tony was; there was no winning with him on this one.
At least make sure they know who they're going to be working with. |
I told them you and I were working on the allergen stuff.
As soon as Cyndaquil was through, Tony grinned at both girls. "Come on, there's something I want to show you a few floors up." "How many is a few...?" Julie asked cautiously. "A few." Tony steered them over to the nearest elevator, letting Steve trail after them. |
Maeve had just enough time to recall Ralts and Litwick before she was steered into the elevator. She blinked when Tony hit the button for a number ten floors up. "That's a little more than a few."
|
"It's a few in this building." Tony got out first, grinning at Bruce. "Bruce, these are the two I mentioned. Girls, this is Bruce. I figured you two could help with our allergy testing."
|
Bruce gave the girls a small smile.
"It's good to meet you," he said. Maeve blinked. "We're in the Green Lab?" she asked, a little awestruck. "Wow." "Excuse me?" Bruce asked, a little confused. "Oh!" Maeve turned a bit red. "Green Lab. The techs all call it that." |
Tony snickered. "Green Lab. I like it. I think we should rename the lab that. What do you think?" He grinned at Bruce.
"Tony, you're being pushy again," Steve said. "I am not! I am never pushy!" Tony pouted a little. "Come on, Bruce, I'm never pushy, am I?" |
"I... plead the fifth," Bruce said, holding up his hands. Then he turned to the girls. "So Tony brought you here for allergen testing?"
|
"Yeah," Julie agreed. "I know I'm allergic to a lot, but I've never had the scratch test done. He said something about you two were working on antihistimines, and I guess he figured we'd make good guinea pigs."
|
"We are working on those," Bruce said, nodding, "but it's best to know everything our testers are allergic to so no accidents happen."
Maeve supposed that made sense; she knew she had spring allergies, but she hadn't been exposed to anywhere near all of the pollen-producing grass-types, or all of the slime-producing pokemon. She was fairly sure fur wouldn't be an issue, but still. |
"Guess I'll need to do that scratch test after all." Julie sighed. "Oh well. I've been putting it off anyway."
"Scratch test?" Steve asked, confused. "Yeah. To find out everything I'm allergic to." Julie shrugged. "Guess I can get that done next week." |
"I'll need one as well," Maeve said. "I probably haven't had near the exposure to pokemon allergens that Julie has, so I'm betting there are things I don't even know I'm allergic to."
