Sera nodded and flopped over when Altaria started scolding her. "Alright, alright, you pest, I'll go to sleep." She shot Maeve and apologetic look. "Sorry, but if I don't obey her orders she'll make me miserable until I do."
|
"At least you'll listen to someone around here," Maeve teased. "I swear, as soon as we got off that Quinjet." She grinned. "Get some rest. I'll wake you when I make dinner."
|
Julie nodded and let Maeve shut the door as she settled down to sleep for a while.
Now she just had to be patient enough to stay down until the next day, because she knew they wouldn't protest her going to the Tower to rest. |
Maeve busied herself elsewhere in the house, cleaning and straightening and just generally distracting herself from the fact that the mission had gone so far south it could have hit the pole. If it had been any other kind of mission, she wouldn't have worried much about it, but this had been a Doom mission; those didn't typically go wrong unless someone made them go wrong. And that was what worried her.
|
The same thing had occurred to Julie by the next morning, after she'd had some sleep and was back closer to normal.
"So am I cleared to go to the Tower?" |
Maeve nodded.
"Yeah," she said. "You should be fine to go to the Tower. But speak up if you start feeling off again, alright?" |
"Will do. And I've got these ones with me, they'll speak up too." Julie smiled a bit and got up. "I'm just about ready to go, just need to get better pants."
|
"Put on the black yoga pants with the Liepard-print waist," Maeve said. "Those'll be fine for lounging about the Tower."
|
Julie nodded and went to go change, grabbing her bag on her way back.
"Okay, now I'm ready to go." She grinned briefly. |
Maeve nodded and gestured to the door. She'd lock everything up behind them.
|
Julie limped out of the apartment and waited for Maeve to join her before she headed for the Tower.
Tony looked up when Jarvis informed him the two had arrived and grinned. He'd just finished getting all the information he needed, so he saved it all and moved into the living room to wait for them. |
Maeve stretched a little and sighed as she followed Julie into the common area and helped her friend get settled in. Somehow, the Tower always felt like a home away from home.
|
Julie got settled in on the couch and sighed quietly as she put her leg up again.
"Well, well. You don't look that bad," Tony said as he sauntered into the room. "You can't see my leg," Julie pointed out. |
"She'll be on medical leave for a little while longer," Maeve commented once Julie was settled in. "Long enough, apparently, that I've got a temporary reassignment." She grinned wryly. "I had a notice about it in my emails this morning."
|
"Apparently they can't do without you," Tony said with a faint grin. "Guess I know who the more valuable agent is."
"Hey!" Julie pouted. |
"No, apparently they needed someone to go out who knows type-matching," Maeve said. She grinned a bit. "That's what I'm good at."
|
"So you are. I've had comments from various employees about you. All of them good, no worries." Tony grinned at her.
|
Maeve blinked.
"Comments make it all the way up?" she couldn't help but ask. "I mean, ideas a such, yeah, but little things like TM consulting?" |
"When you do TM consulting for the head of Resource Management and the head of Accounting." Tony grinned at her.
|
Maeve blinked.
"They mentioned that?" she asked. She hadn't thought anything of it, at the time. |
"Well, they talked to Peps, who brought it to my attention." Tony shrugged. "And since Peps is actually the CEO anyway..."
|
"I didn't think it was worth mentioning," Maeve muttered, turning a bit pink. "Just doing what I'm good at."
|
Tony shrugged. "Clearly you're good enough at it that it's fairly common knowledge among the staff."
|
Maeve blinked.
"I don't understand how that happens without word of it reaching me," she said finally. "You'd think I'd have heard about it if people knew." |
"Well between SHIELD training and running around helping me you haven't been interacting as much as you used to with the rest of the employees." Tony shrugged.
