Maeve just grinned. She'd find a way, somehow.

A week later found Maeve back on the Helicarrier, giving her first seminar on type-matching and battling. It was decided that she was the most qualified, so she found herself looking over a class of about a dozen (mostly new-hired) agents.

Tony had gone up to the helicarrier to give the updated and advanced tablet to Coulson so his Gallade could test it and make sure it was up to par. He did pause when he heard Maeve was teaching a seminar though and went to go check it out.

Maeve was in the middle of a type-matching quiz when he got there.

"So if you were faced with a Steelix..." She glanced at Ditto and nodded, and Ditto promptly turned into a massive Steelix. "...What type would you match up against it if you wanted the advantage?"

One of the newest agents tentatively raised a hand, and she nodded at him.

"It doesn't have a type weakness?" he ventured.

"Go into this battle with that in your head, and you'll lose," Maeve said, raising an eyebrow. "Steelix does have a type weakness. Anyone want to venture a guess what it is?"

"Fighting," Tony said from the back of the room with a grin. "And fire, fire is pretty good too, but fighting I do believe works best." He just grinned cheekily when half the room turned to look at him.

Maeve just rolled her eyes.

"Fighting types work best, yes," she said. "I was looking for the answer from one of the agents, though, Mr. Stark." She gave him a bit of a wry look.

"Did you see anyone volunteering to answer?" Tony smirked. "I didn't either." He stayed where he was, though, well aware he wasn't actually in charge.

Maeve just gave him a bit of a Look and turned back to the class.

"Another tricky one, then," she said. She glanced at Steelix-Ditto. "Ludicolo?" Steelix-Ditto nodded and shrank down into a Ludicolo. It danced a little in place. "Ludicolo is water-grass," she said. "It only has one real weakness. What is it?"

The class was silent for a moment before one agent in the back raised her hand.

"Flying?" she ventured.

"Is that an answer or a question?" Maeve asked in return.

"Flying," the girl answered, more confident. Maeve nodded.

"She's right," she said. "Flying is the only real weakness for a Ludicolo. Being part grass makes it resistant to electricity, and being part water makes it resistant to ice. Flying is the only option left."

The seminar went on like that for another few hours, until Maeve was satisfied that they had all passed the crash-course in type-matching. Once they had all filtered out, she nodded to Ditto to let go of its transformation and she stretched a little.

"Have fun?" Tony asked as he sauntered over to her. He was grinning because he knew that half the attention in the room was on him again. Ah, new hires were so fun to tease.

"That could have gone better," Maeve admitted as she sat down and let Ditto scramble into her lap. "This should have all bee covered in grade school. What trainer doesn't know basic type-matching?"

"Ones that don't pay attention or don't remember the lessons." Tony shrugged. "Or people that just don't think about it. Lots of trainers don't, especially if they only battle casually or occasionally."

"It's just... This is practically kid stuff," Maeve said with a sigh. "I mean, it's obvious a Magnemite is part steel, right? Shouldn't that be obvious?"

"It is when you actually think about it," Tony agreed. "But you've got a bunch of new hires that haven't learned how to think yet."

"No kidding," Maeve muttered. Ditto looked up at Tony from Maeve's lap and, deciding it was bored in its own form, turned into an exact copy of Tony's Porygon-Z, floating up to look at him curiously.

"Hey there kiddo," Tony greeted with a grin. "Did you have fun showing off for people?" He held out a hand to Ditto, giving the pokemon the option of moving closer or not.

Porygon-Ditto trilled and nuzzled his hand happily. It liked Tony, now that it had gotten used to him.

Tony grinned and scratched the pokemon a little. "I'll take that as a yes until I get that translator working."

Porygon-Ditto trilled again.

"How's that coming, by the way?" Maeve asked, curious.

"Slowly," Tony grumbled. "It's not going to be an exact translation either, more like an approximate."

"Approximations aren't bad for a first try, though," Maeve pointed out. "You can dial it in more exactly once it works."

"Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to get it exact," Tony said with a little huff, tickling Ditto's sides. "Language is dependent on body language as much as spoken word, so I'll get about 99% translation but how to take it will depend partially on how well the trainers know the pokemon."

"Most experienced trainers are used to deciphering body language already," Maeve pointed out. "And newbies pick it up quick enough. So even if it's not exact, I'd call it a success."

"We'll see how well it works." Tony shrugged. Even though he didn't think much about it, he wasn't actually boasting to Maeve, where he would normally.

Coulson, however, did notice, and his eyebrows shot up.

Maeve nodded.

"Let me know," she said. She grinned. "Whatever you do, don't let a ghost-type test it first, they'll probably say weird things just to screw with you."

Maeve grinned and stood up.

"I should head down to the mess hall," she said. "Get some lunch before the afternoon seminar. I'm doing two of these a day for two weeks to make sure everyone who wants to sign up gets a chance."
