"That would be amazing," Maeve said, grinning. "I mean, we've met three of them already.
|
"Exactly! Only three more to meet." Julie grinned. "Wouldn't that be fantastic? Meeting all the Avengers?"
|
"It would be amazing," Maeve agreed. "How many people can say they have the opportunity?"
|
"Probably not many, not even in SI," Julie said with a grin. "I wonder what other pokemon the others have..."
|
"I have no idea," Maeve said. "I won't even hazard a guess. People can be crazy unpredictable when it comes to pokemon."
|
"No kidding." Julie snorted and shook her head. "Oh well. I guess we'll find out soon." Grinning, she went over to her station so she could figure out what she was actually supposed to be doing.
|
"I guess so," Maeve agreed. After a minute or two of just imagining meeting the other Avengers, she eventually went back to the TM testing room.
|
Julie made her way over to Stark Tower bright and early the next morning, Cyndaquil still sleeping in her bag while Swablu, who had always been more of a morning pokemon, floated above her head cheerfully. Coulson, of course, was already there and waiting for them.
|
Maeve wasn't far behind, Kirlia walking beside her. Litwick was sound asleep in his pokeball; while he was used to being awake for a good chunk of the day, early morning was most definitely not within that time frame.
"Ready?" Coulson asked when the girls got there. |
"Yeah. So where are we going, exactly?" Julie blinked at him, even as he led the way into the Tower and straight into the elevator.
"Up," he responded oh so helpfully. |
"Up where?" Maeve asked.
"You'll see," Coulson replied as he herded the girls and their pokemon into the elevator. |
Once they were up on one of the top ten floors, Coulson herded them out again. Mewtwo was already waiting for them, and Julie just had to stop and gape at the pokemon.
"Mewtwo, if you would?" Coulson looked at the other SHIELD agent. |
Maeve stopped as well, trying not to stare and failing. Kirlia ducked behind Maeve, a little wary of the other pokemon. She could tell that he was a very, very powerful psychic-type.
Mewtwo nodded and raised a hand. A bright blue aura surrounded the group briefly before they all vanished, reappearing on the SHIELD helicarrier. "Is that all?" he asked Coulson. |
"Yes, thank you," Coulson said, nodding to the pokemon. "Although I think Director Fury wanted to talk to you."
Julie was still blinking and looking around, very surprised. And still kind of in shock at seeing the legendary. |
Mewtwo nodded again.
"I will go and see what he wants," he said. With that, he vanished. "Arceus almighty, what was that?" Maeve squeaked after a minute. |
"Mewtwo. SHIELD special agent." Coulson looked at the girls before he started herding them along towards his office. "We have some paperwork for you both to fill out."
|
"Paperwork," Maeve repeated. "Right." She blinked and shook her head, still a bit dazed from the interaction (of sorts) with a legendary pokemon.
|
Coulson took his time herding them, giving them some time to regain their wits before he showed them to seats and set down a set of paperwork in front of each.
"I've marked all the spots you need to sign, we'll need some general information in the top two forms, and the name of your medical provider or doctor. For our own references." |
Maeve nodded and grabbed a pen. She was familiar with paperwork, for the most part. Kirlia stayed next to her while she did the paperwork, although the pokemon did glance a few times at Coulson's Gallade. Kirlia tried really hard not to blush. She didn't quite succeed.
|
Gallade was quiet while they filled out the paperwork, absently putting a few things on Coulson's desk that he needed to look at. He did look at Kirlia a few times and blink, though.
Julie finished up her paperwork fairly quickly and put the pen down. "Alright. Anything else?" |
"The HR department will need to integrate you into the SHIELD system," Coulson said. "ID numbers, passcodes, everything you need." He glanced at his watch. "Given the typical competence of the HR department, it shouldn't take longer than an hour or so to complete, so we should get down there soon."
|
Julie nodded and got up, waiting for him to lead the way down there. He picked up the paperwork and took them down to HR so they could get finger prints and eye scans and things started. Because SHIELD was nothing if not thorough.
|
SHIELD was definitely thorough, and Maeve was kind of impressed. She wouldn't have even thought about some of the things they were asking her for, and certainly wouldn't have thought about them in the security sense. Of course, it was SHIELD, so it had a twisted, uptight sort of logic going for it.
Litwick and Kirlia, after being registered in the SHIELD database as belonging to Maeve, stayed off to the side while the girl was being integrated into the database. Litwick was clearly bored and was spinning and tumbling through the air, but Kirlia kept stealing glances at Gallade. |
Gallade was being helpful, keeping track of the girls' files and making sure everything got done in a timely and orderly fashion. Because clearly he was far too much like Coulson.
By the time she was finished with the paperwork, getting her ID and passcode, and getting her pokemon registered, Julie was wondering if they'd start asking for the names and addresses of her friends and family. Geeze but they were thorough. |
"That was... more than mildly invasive," Maeve commented when they were sent out of the HR office with their new badges and security clearances. "Litwick, stop that," she added without even looking at her pokemon. Said pokemon was currently making faces at people through windows and drifting back and forth through solid walls. It stopped with a mildly abashed look.
