Lea laughed quietly and tapped his claw with her hand every time he passed in front of her. "Hey, do you know how to give a high five? I could teach you. I bet he hasn't taught you that."
"What?" Tony looked at her. "No, stop, no teaching things to my bot, he's mine, you don't get to try to teach him things, he probably won't learn it anyways, just look at him, all he knows how to do is make smoothies and break things."
"Ignore him," Lea said firmly to Dummy. "Come on, come over here and I'll show you how." She walked over to a chair, making sure Dummy was following before she sat and walked him through the process of a high five. She was busy ignoring Tony, because she kind of loved this bot.
Tony took the opportunity to sneak up on Dummy and grab the bot, opening one of the panels to do the maintenance. He grabbed hold of some wires to keep Dummy from bolting, and finally managed to finish what needed to be done. He closed the panel with a click and Dummy promptly took off to take refuge with You and Butterfingers.
Lea pout a bit but didn't go after the bot.
"I get the feeling that's normal," she commented, watching the three bots. |
"You have no idea," Tony replied, grabbing a rag to try to get some grease off of his fingers. "I have no idea why, but Dummy hates any sort of repairs or upgrades. You and Butterfingers don't mind, but Dummy..." He shook his head. "Stupid bot."
"Stubborn bot," Lea corrected. "Very much like his maker." She got up again, stretching briefly.
Tony sputtered a bit, but couldn't actually deny it. As much as he didn't want to admit it, she was kind of right. But only kind of.
"Are we actually working today or should I go find another project to work on?" Lea looked at him evenly.
"Nope, we're working," Tony said. He grinned. "I hope you don't mind I asked someone to join us. Analyzing blood work is more Brucey's field, not mine."
"Bruce? Bruce Banner?" For a moment Lea looked really interested. Biology wasn't really her area, nor was gamma radiation or anything science, really, but she knew enough about him to be curious.
"The one and only," Tony replied, grinning. "He's got more patience than I do for that kind of thing."
"Sure, he can join us," Lea agreed. He would probably be nicer than Tony at any rate. Because even though he was helping them, Tony could be a bit abrasive, especially since she was potential tech competition.
"Great, because he'll be here soon," Tony said.
Lea nodded. "So, you said something about blood work? How much are we talking?"
"Not a lot," Tony replied as he picked up a tablet to fiddle with. "Some. Just enough to figure out what's going on with your DNA."
"Good to know you're not a vampire." Lea smiled a bit and rolled up one sleeve to make it easier for Bruce when he arrived. Which took only another minute or two.
Tony snorted, and then turned with a grin when he hears the door open. "Bruce!"
"Morning, Tony," Bruce said in return, a mug of tea in his hands. He glanced at Lea. "You must be the young lady Tony mentioned." |
"Leandra," she said, nodding to Bruce. "It's nice to meet you, Dr. Banner."
"Tony told me a little about what's going on," Bruce said as he set down his mug on the table, next to Tony's coffee. "You and your sister are infected with Extremis?"
Leandra nodded. "Second generation. I just have the residual from our parents, but she got a second dose. She got the injection about a year ago."
"And I'm guessing the second dose was different than the first," Bruce commented. "Being so far apart and having been gotten differently. Why was she dosed and not you as well?"
Lea shrugged. "I didn't feel like I needed it, although I did apply. AIM saw no use for me and so declined my application." She wasn't all that upset about it, honestly, although she had to admit she'd been curious about the side-effects.
"I see," Bruce said. "I may need a sample from your sister, as well, then. You may each need a different solution."
"Test on me first, and if you two can figure out some kind of solution, then we'll talk to Amy," Lea said firmly. She was adamant about that.
