Loki shrugged. "It is difficult to know anyone's motives," he said. "Especially those with plans and minions."
Amy hummed slightly in reply, staring down into her tea.
Loki was content with the quiet for a while, watching the sky slowly lighten out the window.
Amy couldn't help but glance towards the door when she sensed the others in the tower starting to move around.
"People are waking up," she commented. |
"Indeed. Captain Rogers is likely going for his morning run," Loki commented, still watching out the window as people started to move around down there as well.
Amy nodded, habitually filing that information away in the back of her mind.
"And two are in the main kitchen," she added. "Neither one is Thor, I don't think." |
Loki shook his head. "No. Doctor Banner and Miss Romanoff." Hey, he figured he could name people for her, and she could put names to feelings so she'd be able to track everyone through the tower.
Amy nodded a bit, even thought she shuddered slightly at the thought of Romanoff. The woman unnerved her a lot, and Amy didn't like to be around her much.
Loki searched for the rest of the Avengers out of habit. He did it every morning, after all, because he liked to know their routines.
Amy was more hesitant to search them out. Even though she knew she wouldn't be able to take hold of them, she didn't want to risk trying anyways and burning herself out. She just stayed curled up on the chair, although she did give a small smile when one of the kittens came in and jumped up for some cuddles.
Loki blinked at the kitten and watched as one of Lea's kittens came over to investigate him. He held out a hand for the kitten to sniff, smiling indulgently.
Amy watched him with the kitten. She'd never seen him affectionate like that before, and it surprised her.
Loki petted the kitten gently for a few minutes before the kitten wandered off again. Then he snorted and shook his head.
"I didn't know you liked cats," Amy commented quietly. "It doesn't surprise me much, though."
"Cats are fine," Loki said with a little shrug. "They are entertaining and do not require constant attention."
"That depends on the cat," Amy pointed out. "There are cats out there who would love constant attention because clearly beings with apposable thumbs exist solely to take care of them." She couldn't help but grin just a little.
Loki snorted at that. "I have not yet met such a creature," he said. "Apart from canines, anyway. I am not so fond of canines."
"You've never been trying to read a book and a cat just comes over and lays across the pages?" Amy asked curiously, looking at him.
"We do not have small cats such as these on Asgard," Loki said with a shrug. "The only felines there are much larger and are in the service of Freya."
"Keep in mind these are babies," Amy pointed out as she picked up a passing kitten and snuggled it a little. "They'll be roughly eight or nine pounds when they're grown."
Loki snorted. "The felines I am accustomed to are about four feet tall at the shoulder, usually taller, and weigh upwards of a hundred and fifty pounds," he said dryly. "They pull Freya's carriage."
Amy blinked.
"I feel the distinct need to brush up on my mythology, because I was not aware of this," she said. |
Loki just shrugged and leaned back in his seat, watching the kittens come out to play. He had no idea how accurate human mythology was, after all.
Absently, Amy nudged a jingly toy with her foot and smiled a bit when four of the kittens scrambled to get it.
Loki grinned and twitched one finger. The jingly toy bounced half-way across the room with all four kittens scrambling after it. And then it moved into the kitchen area, where the cats had even less grip, and slid across the floor.
