Tony nodded.
"I let him know," he said. "Come on, inside, Brucey has his own little medical bay set up near the lab." |
Lea nodded and headed inside, getting into the elevator. She still couldn't hold still, though.
Bruce was waiting for them when they got there. He had the first antigen that they had developed, even though he knew it was only going to lessen what Lea felt rather than get rid if it completely. But it was better than nothing.
Lea didn't even protest the needle, holding out an arm so he could give her the antigen and take blood. Once the antigen had an effect, she relaxed a little bit. At least most of the twitchiness was gone.
"It'll take some time to analyze this and synthesize a new antigen for you," Bruce commented once Lea was a bit more relaxed. "As long as that's still what you want."
"I just..." Lea clenched her fists briefly. "I need something so I don't start taking this place apart piece by piece."
"I'm sure Tony can find you something to do," Bruce said. "Although I will advise you to try to get some rest when you can."
"I'll see if I can manage that," Lea said. "Thanks, Bruce." She got up and started looking for something to do, trying to ignore the feeling of Tony's tech all over the place.
Tony was already in his lab, trying to wrangle Dummy into obedience and failing.
"Bruce give you the all-clear?" he asked when he noticed Lea. |
"Yeah, for now." Lea moved over to sit next to him. "You should probably know, this upgrade makes me want to take apart your tech to see how it ticks."
"So go build yourself a bot or something," Tony said waving a hand. "The parts are all here somewhere. Knock yourself out."
Lea went to go find parts and started on the coding. She didn't stop working for hours, and wouldn't have stopped working if someone hadn't made her stop to eat.
Bruce made both of them stop to eat once. He knew very well what Tony's habits were, and it seemed like Lea was picking up on them, at least for now.
The second person to bring down a plate of sandwiches, though, wasn't Bruce. It was Amy instead. She knew the moment her sister got back into the tower, but she hadn't felt calm enough to come down to see her before now. |
Lea looked over when she heard the door open, expecting Bruce. When she saw Amy, though, she stopped and blinked.
"Amy?" she asked, standing. |
"Lea," Amy said, her voice trembling a bit. She set the plate of sandwiches down and went over to her sister, hugging her. "I was so worried about you..."
Lea blinked for a moment before she hugged Amy back. "Hey, I'm fine," she said, completely ignoring the fact that she had a double dose of Extremis now too. "Really. Are you okay?"
"I'll be okay," Amy replied. She hugged her sister tighter. "I'm sorry. I know what they did to you. They did it to me too, and it was so hard to break out of it... I didn't think to look for you. I had to get out."
"Don't worry about it," Lea said quietly. "I was a bit... preoccupied myself." She shivered briefly. "I'm just glad you're okay."
"I can handle it for now, but how are you holding up?" Amy asked. She had a bit more experience fighting Extremis, and she knew it wasn't anywhere near 'easy.'
"Keeping myself busy." Lea shrugged. "Seems to be the best way to handle it, just keep myself busy."
Amy nodded.
"It doesn't get easier," she said quietly. "Just... more bearable, sometimes." |
"I hope so." Lea closed her eyes briefly. "God I hope so." Because she was already starting to get twitchy again.
Amy hugged her again, just rubbing her back.
"It'll be okay," she said. "You can do this." |
"Hopefully." Lea sighed. "I can't hold still anymore, Amy."
Amy nodded and reluctantly let her sister go.
"Just do your best," she said. "And ditch the caffeine, it just makes things worse. The calming tea might help." |
