Lea rolled her eyes at him and got up. "You're an idiot sometimes," she informed him. "I'm going to go bake cookies." She scooped up Darling, who was allowed out of the lab on supervised field trips, and headed for the elevator to go cook.
"You do that," Tony replied.
Upstairs, Amy was sitting comfortably near the balcony doors, meditating. Her three cats were with her: one in her lap, one snuggled up next to her, and one across her shoulders. |
Loki had already brought up the last of her things (and had left the rest of Lea's things in the car) and was currently just lounging and watching her off and on. She didn't need to be watched, not really, but he did enjoy the view.
Amy knew he was there, she just didn't mind. She actually found it kind of comforting. She did open one eye briefly when the cat on her shoulders hopped down and went over to him, settling in his lap.
Loki let the cat settle down, stroking through her fur idly. He didn't mind Amy's cats, they were all fine. He did, however, want to make sure Amy was really fine. He had noticed she seemed better now, more stable, even with the new Extremis.
After a little while longer, Amy finally opened her eyes. She stretched a little and looked at him.
"You're thinking about something," she observed. "Not on the scale of world-domination, but it looks like something is bothering you." |
"Just wondering how well you are coping," Loki said, never ceasing his lazy stroking of the cat. "You seem to be better than before."
"I got some time away," Amy pointed out. "The... upgrade probably doesn't hurt, either, the program feels more stable than the last one."
Loki nodded and got a bit more comfortable. "Good," he said quietly. "You seem to feel more comfortable now than when I first met you."
"A little, I guess," Amy said. "Why? What does it matter?"
Loki raised an eyebrow at her. "It matters quite a bit," he told her. "If you're more comfortable, you're happier, less likely to run off or do something equally foolish."
Amy had to admit he had a point, although she couldn't help but feel a slight spark of disappointment that the reasons he gave were generic, rather than personal. So she just nodded a bit in agreement.
Loki looked at her for a moment and smirked faintly. "I do rather enjoy you right where you are," he said mildly. "So the fewer reasons you have to run, the better."
Amy blinked, a bit surprised, and blushed faintly.
"Well, you did say you wanted an amusement," she pointed out. |
"Amusement, yes," Loki agreed. "Company. Among other things." He watched her carefully to see if he'd overstepped.
"Other things?" Amy ventured, still blushing a little.
"Indeed. Other things." But Loki didn't think she was ready to hear that yet, so he went on without explaining. "At any rate, I am glad you are settling in again."
"I'm glad I'm able to settle, at least some," Amy agreed, nodding. The blush slowly faded from her face. "I should... try to herd these three back into my room, Tony doesn't like them roaming the tower much..."
"They're not wandering much," Loki said, though he didn't try to stop her. "Although, as I have one perched on me, I may as well help."
Amy grinned a bit as she gathered up the other two cats.
"She likes you," she said. "You're calm and comfortable." |
"Apparently." Loki scooped up the kitten so he could carry her, letting Amy lead the way back to her room.
Amy took the other two kittens back to her room, depositing them both on her bed where they promptly wriggled under the covers to play.
Loki set the third kitten down, snickering when she went to go pounce on her siblings. Shaking his head a bit, he watched the kittens for a few moments.
Amy grinned a bit and put her hand on the covers, grinning more when one of the kittens underneath promptly grabbed her hand.
Loki tried tickling near one kitten, who promptly went after his fingers, and he snickered. The other kitten batted at her siblings and meowed.
