Leandra looked at him evenly. "Ah, yes. The Extremis virus. I'd love to actually see what you have on it, someday. But no one sent me, and no one is paying me to do this."
"I'll believe that nobody is paying you to do this," Tony said. "But no, seriously, why? If nobody sent you and nobody is paying you, why?"
"Do you know how long the Extremis experiments have been going on?" Lea asked in reply. "How many years they've been testing on humans?"
No, but he could probably take a pretty good guess and look it up later, if he had to.
"It's rude to answer a question with a question," Tony said. "I should know, I do it all the time." |
Leandra smiled a bit. "I know some people," she said. "Who have Extremis, in some capacity or another. That's why I was looking for the information."
"You know some people?" Tony repeated. He looked at her. "Or you are 'some people'?"
Leandra didn't reply to that, meeting his gaze evenly. She was one, but he didn't need to know that, and she wasn't going to be the one to tell him.
Tony took the lack of response for what it was.
"I see," he said. "You mentioned a sister, right? Her too?" |
Leandra quirked an eyebrow at him with a sardonic little smile. Really, he was a genius, he could figure it out for himself.
"Right," Tony said. Now things were adding up. "So the anxiety issues and all...? Makes sense. But the mind control?"
Leandra sighed. "You're a genius, you should be able to figure this out. Do you really think I'm just going to tell you everything because you asked?"
"You've told me tons already," Tony pointed out. For once, he was glad he lived with the Black Widow. She'd rubbed off on him some. "Besides. You work for me. If it technically pertains to work, I can ask you what I want and you're obligated to answer."
"It does not pertain to work besides the information you have, which is in your private databases rather than the company ones. It's private information, which I am by no means required to tell you about." Leandra looked off to the side.
Tony studied her for a moment before nodding once. He'd get the information one way or another.
Leandra relaxed a little at that, though she did move away from the goodies.
"I should get home, it's past time for me to leave, and I missed lunch." |
"Right." Tony waved her off. "Go on, good night, have fun, whatever." He turned back to the computer. Time to see if he could figure out how she had managed to crumble the security in the system.
Leandra left quietly, heading back to the apartment, yawning as she walked. Hacking through Stark's systems was hard work.
Amy was at home, curled up on the couch under a fluffy blanket with the TV on. There was an empty mug on the coffee table from her tea earlier.
"Hey, I'm back," Leandra said as she moved into the apartment, dropping her bag off to the side and kicking off her shoes.
Amy glanced over.
"Welcome back," she replied. She didn't get up from the couch, though. "All was quiet today. No sign of anyone else." |
"Good. I'm not in trouble." Lea sighed as she sank down onto the couch. "And I'm starving. I skipped lunch today."
"Go eat something, then," Amy said. "There's some soup in the fridge, I had made some for lunch and I didn't finish." She was quiet for a moment. "The tea helped more than the soup did."
"I know." Lea sighed. "But I've got tomorrow off, and I know what I need to do now. So I can work tomorrow on something for you."
"You figured it out?" Amy asked, looking at her sister. "How?"
"More wandering in R&D labs," Leandra said with a shrug. "So now I have a design for the device, and I know what it needs to do, so now all I have to do is get the coding right, and that can be tweaked after it's done."
