"Some omens north of here," Kyra said, frowning. "It's a bit odd, though. Freak storm, dead cattle, dying crops... But no murders, no one missing. Nothing that's made the reports, anyway."
"Strange," Runa said. "Maybe we caught them early. We should take a look."
"Yeah. Now the question is, do we go over there ourselves now, or do we wait for them all to be done?" She raised an eyebrow at Runa. She was fine either way; it would be easy enough to hotwire a car.
"We can go ourselves," Runa said, pulling out her phone. Quickly, she tapped out a message.
Hey, gone to take care of some omens. We can take care of it ourselves, give us a call when things are settled. She sent it to Sam's phone and Dean's, and then grabbed her hunting kit out of the trunk of the Impala. "Let's go." |
Kyra nodded and headed off with her to find a car to borrow so they could go investigate the hunt. She was glad to be off on their own for a bit.
Runa checked their hunting kit while Kyra secured their car, making sure they had everything they needed to take down a demon or two.
Kyra drove over to her in a plain blue Honda, unlocking the doors so she could get settled in for the drive. It would take a while, but it would also give Kyra time to clear her head.
Runa threw their hunting kit into the back of the car and slid into the passenger seat. A simple demon hunt would be good for them. Almost relaxing, even, if hunts could be relaxing.
By the time they got up to the hunt, Kyra's phone had gone off a few times, but she was ignoring it. Instead, she focused on the hunt. It was nice to have a simple demon hunt for once.
Runa's phone had gone off a few times, too, but instead of answering the calls, she just sent back a text saying that they could handle a demon hunt just fine on their own. As an afterthought, she asked Dean if things were settled with Castiel yet.
Dean texted back that they were working things out and really, he did not approve of them wandering off on their own just then without warning. Because things never went well when the Winchesters and their group split up.
Dean could disapprove all he liked, it didn't change the fact that the girls were on a hunt.
We can handle a demon hunt. Go screw your angel into the back seat of the Impala, we'll be back when we've taken care of the demon. With that, Runa turned her phone off (because she'd heard horror stories of phones ringing in the middle of hunts) and grabbed the hunting kit. "Ready?" she asked Kyra. |
Kyra nodded, turning her phone off as well after ignoring a text from Gabriel (and really, when did he get her number, and why did an Archangel have a cell phone?). "Let's go."
Runa nodded and started feeling around for a demonic presence. Sometimes there were some perks to being an antichrist.
Kyra let her take point, following her lead. This should be a nice, easy hunt after all. She wasn't really worried.
Tracking down the demon wasn't really all that hard. Runa didn't recognize them, but she'd hardly met every demon in hell. It was a pretty simple hunt, all things considered (even though she had the faint taste of smoke in the back of her mouth by the end of the exorcism).
"Demon small-change," she commented once she was sure the demon had been sent back to hell. "I kind of wanted a challenge." |
Kyra nodded and sighed. "That was too easy," she agreed, stretching a bit. "Well, maybe there's another hunt in the area, we don't have to go back yet."
"Let's take a look around, then," Runa said, nodding. "I could stand one more hunt before we head back."
Kyra nodded and drove them to the diner, pulling out her laptop again to see if she could find anything about another hunt, preferably close.
So, naturally, she was delighted at the prospect of just a plain old haunting. |
Runa was thrilled as well.
"I'm actually looking forward to a good old-fashioned ghost-busting," she said. "Let's go." |
Kyra grinned. "Something nice and normal," she said, grinning as she drove. "With no Winchesters involved. Maybe that's why it's so normal."
"No kidding," Runa said. "That's exactly it. It's normal because they're not here." Absently, she turned her phone on again.
She had a few more texts from Dean, who clearly did not like being ignored.
Okay, really, this isn't cool, turn around and get your asses back here. Seriously, Sam looks like a kicked puppy and it's your fault. Come on, Cas and I aren't that bad. |
Relax, Dean, I turned off my phone for the hunt. We're on the trail of a haunting, so we're going to nip that one while we're out and then be back.
Runa paused for a moment, and then added, Talk to Kyra about Sam, not me. |
Still not cool. I know Sam's texted her already, so now you get to bug her. Dean grumbled a bit as he sent that text off. And that's not cool, going off and doing hunts without us. Where are you headed?
